Jonathan was in his smoke form from a far. He watched Izumi until she woke up. When he finally noticed she did, he disappeared out of the area.
Izumi walked into her house feeling confused. She sat down at a table with her head down for almost an entire hour. Jonathan, who was watching outside, understood how she was feeling. When he confirmed things, he completely left the Uchiha district. While he was flying above the Leaf back to his place of residence, he thought back at that recent battle.
…
The moment Jonathan knocked Izumi unconscious, Jonathan immediately began performing the healing technique. Izumi had multiple burn wounds as well as a broken nose.
Throughout their exchanges, Jonathan was holding. At any time, he could have killed Izumi if he wanted. What Jonathan was aiming for was seeing how much she's developed over the time he hadn't been watching her. He he knew full well how Izumi fought. For a whole week Jonathan had analyzed her movements with his sharingan.
Though she was swift and agile, she wasn't compared to Itachi's brilliance. But neither was she weak as Sasuke Uchiha when he was around that age. In fact, she was better than most genin. From what Jonathan experienced, she was more than qualified to graduate the academy alongside Itachi. He could only think that it was because she hadn't had the proper experience yet that they didn't consider her. Her taijutsu wasn't bad but she didn't seem to know the real basics of what a ninja needed; meaning, she had aptitude but not enough talent.
Despite being an Uchiha.
And even though she managed to match Jonathan's fireball technique, this hadn't impressed him. Jonathan's ninjutsu was considered average at best. Perhaps she could graduate the academy but she would fail if she took the Chūnin exams. To Jonathan, her physical prowess was weak. Too weak in fact.
But all these things had already been aware to Jonathan. Izumi Uchiha was only seven years of age.
The whole purpose of Jonathan attacking her was to fuel her drive. He needed her to suffer emotionally in order to help advance her sharingan. Perhaps even use their encounter as a means to grow stronger. Without a best friend or a significant person to attach to, Izumi would never hope to unlock the mangekyō sharingan. That was Jonathan's only purpose in spending time on her. Otherwise, she wouldn't be worth his effort.

His words of provocation were just enough from what he understood. Izumi Uchiha was supposed to be frail and boisterous at times. What Jonathan encountered was more of a tsundere, someone who was cold or closed off. Her responses were shrewd and her reactions fearless. To Jonathan, it felt like he was fighting with someone who had nothing left to lose. Even though it was only his third battle in this world, he had enough understanding to know when someone was fighting with their lives at stake.
If Jonathan can direct her to an even greater emotional darkness, she could surely advance her sharingan. But if Jonathan felt like she was a lost cause, he would slay her with little to no hesitation.
The Uchiha clan, for the next several years, should be able to raise her right. And Jonathan's sure she'll go prying around for an unknown Uchiha with sharingan named Shikamaru. When she does that, even Jonathan knows she'll come up short on answers. That amount of confusion will cause her to doubt her clan and seek out what really happened to her mother. From what Jonathan collected while spying on the Uchiha, Izumi was told that her mother died by a fallen building during the nine-tail's attack. He believed that story to be a load of horse manure when he first heard it.
In approaching Izumi this day, it gave her a purpose in life. To seek out who Jonathan was and what really happened to her mother.

After reaching Teuchi's residence, Jonathan saw a letter on the table.
'Teuchi must have left it for me,' Jonathan believed. When he opened it, he saw it was a letter of confirmation from the ninja tool shop. It read that they were happy to have Teuchi as a high investor in their business. Attached to that letter was a copy of a contract he signed yesterday.
Jonathan left the letter on the table and headed upstairs. Ayame and Teuchi had been asleep by now.
'The Chūnin exams,' Jonathan speculated as he rested his head on a pillow. 'Once the second or third portions of the exams start, I'll be able to get stronger.'
