Chapter 7: Chapter 7: Mom

Just like Jonathan predicted, the village guards, though weary of why a child was leaving the village at this hour, paid no mind when they saw not just his attire but their village headband tied confidently around Jonathan's small biceps. Whether he was wearing the headband or not wouldn't have mattered much. Village guards paid more attention when someone suspicious from the outside comes in. But Jonathan was not one to leave room for mistakes to be made.

It was never revealed where the exact location of the orphanage was, but in the animation television show Jonathan had a crisp image of its surrounding. It wasn't anywhere too far. And like the name of the village implies, it truly was hidden like most of the locations outside. The moment Jonathan was out the guard's sights, he immediately took off his headband. It would be troubling if he was ambushed or attacked because someone mistook him as a ninja. Being a child, he was more likely to be kidnapped than get killed unexpectedly.

Jonathan chose to only walk a moderate distance from where he knew the village walls were. If he failed in finding the orphanage, he could always retrace his steps and return to try again another day. His only threat was other ninjas. After several hours of walking endlessly, Jonathan's legs began to tire out. He had forgotten that he was in the body of a child. His stamina depleted far faster than expected. If he had learned to manipulate chakra, things would be different. Having no other choice, Jonathan had to rest in order to recover from his exhaustion.

He detested the idea of being so weak. Even on earth, Jonathan trained his body periodically. To be trapped in a neophyte's underdeveloped body just fuels his displeasure of this world. Jonathan wasn't like Sasuke Uchiha who used revenge as his drive. Nor he was like Rock Lee who was motivated by his youthful goal. Jonathan was stimulated by the idea he arrived in a world he had a deep hatred for.

After a few minutes of resting, Jonathan rose form his spot and began looking for the orphanage again. The moment he got up, he heard footsteps. Not just one but multiple.

It was these moments that determined life or death. Even trying to check could cause his life to end. Jonathan leaned his back close against the tree. The direction the footsteps were coming from were opposite of it. One minute passed. Two minutes. Then three. It took a whole three minutes for the footsteps to be out of range. Only then did Jonathan look to see who they were. From a safe distance, Jonathan saw three hooded men. They weren't headed towards the village gates but away from it. And Jonathan knew who the three likely were.

Now was not the time to move. Jonathan, however, was certain they were headed to the orphanage. Three years from now, Kabuto Yakushi (who was currently at the orphanage) would be recruited by a leaf elder named Danzō Shimura. Whenever he visited, he'd have at least two body guards with him. Only, Jonathan wasn't entirely sure who those body guards were at the moment.

Nonetheless, Jonathan would take the chance in believing Danzō Shimura's group was headed towards the orphanage. If he was wrong, he'd pay a huge price for it. Jonathan always made sure to make things as perfect as they could be. Even his plans. As such, he spent two and a half hours under that tree before he set foot towards their direction. Had he waited any more, he would have fallen asleep. And had he waited any less, he may have encountered those three on their way back. Since those three did not come back the same way they came, Jonathan concluded it was because they were ninja. Root ninja to be specific. They're a lot craftier than the standard.

Jonathan followed Danzō's path. He took note of all the trees, bushes and even rock placements just in case. Root was an organization within an organization. To be precise, it was a branch of the Leaf Village's Anbu Black Ops. Jonathan despised trivial politics. The idea of him wishing to join Root was out of the question. On top of likely being used by their leader, Danzō Shimura, he'd have a cursed seal placed on him. If Jonathan was going to overpower every shinobi in this world, he wasn't going to be manipulated by others.

What felt like hours of walking was only thirty minutes at best. This was due to Jonathan's immature body. He had finally reached a clearing where a large building subsided. Even though it wasn't from a bird's eye view, Jonathan knew clearly this was the orphanage. Before he would reach the front door, Jonathan buried the tool bag a safe distant away. When he finished, he approached the orphanage and collapsed purposefully by the door. He needed to be in this position. Not a moment too soon and the door opened.

A woman with light brown hair gasped at Jonathan's collapsed body. Jonathan looked up and uttered the words, "Mom." His faint voice caused the woman to immediately pick him up and bring him inside. Nonō Yakushi was indeed a true mother. This was the woman being held by Jonathan. She cared for others wholeheartedly. Despite having been a former member of Root, she was captain of the Medic Corps, another one of the Leaf Villages many subdivisions.

Jonathan was prepared even if anyone from the orphanage discovered he came from the hospital. Because there, they stated he had amnesia.

"Quickly!" Nonō shouted. "Get a bed cleared. A child's been hurt."

In a breath of time, Jonathan, who had closed his eyes after referring to Nonō as his mother, felt soft sheets on his back. He opened his eyes and saw he was surrounded by not only her but other children as well. "Mom!" Jonathan shouted as he leaped from the bed to embrace Nonō Yakushi.

"Is that mom's real son?" a confused orphan boy asked.
