Chapter 77: Chapter 77: Fear

When Jonathan looked to see who it was, he recognized the shinobi. It was a faint memory but his name instantly came to Jonathan the instant he saw his face.

'Fugi'.

This person was from a filler arc dealing with Gaara after he became the Kazekage. Even more, Jonathan knew how irrelevant that arc was for the villains. If there was anything he gained from those filler moments, it was a sealing technique that allowed someone to extract tailed beasts.

But Fugi wasn't the person who had that technique. Almost fourteen to fifteen years from now, Fugi was a Jōnin in the Sand Village. Though he looked younger from Joanthan's perspective, it was undoubtedly the same person.

"I'm glad to have finally found someone," Jonathan answered. "I've been traveling for days! Do you folk perhaps have any water to spare?"

"You don't look like you're from here, stranger. Wearing that tiger-striped kimono and all," another man retorted. Jonathan didn't recognize that man but did notice his headband. He, too, was a shinobi from the Sand Village.

"We're on an important mission, and need our supplies," Fugi testified. "If you can, go to the town a few miles east from here and you'll find a vendor selling water."

Fugi then signaled the two to continue pressing forward. But Jonathan could easily tell that this wasn't an ordinary mission. It was an escort mission. The person behind Fugi and the other shinobi was different. That person didn't have a headband. The three passed Jonathan, not caring for his humble plead for water.

"Wait," Jonathan stated. The three turned around, wondering what Jonathan needed now.

"You should consider when a man asketh for a drink, thou shalt give it to him." Jonathan turned to the three, revealing markings across his face. Jonathan had been drinking hot spring water for four days straight. All that excess senjutsu was waiting for Jonathan to release his Simeon Sage Mode.

"A shinobi?!" Fugi questioned surprisingly. "Let's not be hostile, kid. Isago, watch Senior Gōza for a moment."

'Isago and Gōza,' Jonathan repeated. He's heard those names before but couldn't recall who they were.

"I haven't had a battle in some time. Perhaps you three can entertain me a little..." Jonathan activated his sharingan and rushed towards Fugi at great speeds.

'He's fast!' Fugi thought. Jonathan knew they didn't know anything about Sage Mode. He closed the distance so easily that he could have delivered a fatal blow. Fugi pulled out a kunai and slashed at Jonathan's face. Jonathan moved his face only a few inches back and purposely got cut. Not a second to soon and Jonathan's wound was already closing.

'Cellular regeneration.'

Fugi immediately tried performing hand seals, but Jonathan's sharingan could already see through it. With his increased speed in Sage Mode, he grabbed Fugi's arm and twisted it behind him. He then kicked his calf muscle causing him to drop to his knees.

"Argh!" Fugi screamed. Without much effort, Jonathan managed to fully subdue him.

"This man called you Isago, right?" asked Jonathan.

Isago and Gōza were still full of shock at how easily Fugi was beaten.

"Just who the heck are you?!" screamed Isago.

"Unless you want this shinobi to die, I suggest you answer my question."

There was a moment of silent until the shinobi finally spoke.

"I…"

Jonathan disliked his slow responsive answer. In the blink of an eye, he let go of Fugi's arm, grabbed his chin and hair with his palms and forcefully twisted his whole head backwards.

"Fugi!" screamed Isago. Jonathan then formed several seals and shot a large lightning bolt from his mouth.

'Sage art: false darkness.'

The lightning strike crashed along the sand as it made its way to the two. Isago slammed his palms on the ground to erect a giant stone wall in front of him.

'Earth style: mud wall.'

Jonathan's false darkness technique blew away at Isago's defenses. Sweat began to drip on Gōza's face as he said, "He's too strong, Isago! We have to run away!" Isago turned around to face Gōza. Unexpectedly, Isago grabbed Gōza by the neck and lifted him up.

"Isa—go… What are... you doing?" Gōza struggled to say.

'Body oxidation technique.'

The moment Jonathan released his sage attack, he entered into his smoke form and took control of Isago's body. Jonathan pulled out one of Isago's kunai and sliced away Gōza's quadricep muscles.

"Argh!" Gōza screamed.

He let go of Gōza and corroded Isago from the inside. Using senjutsu chakra amplified the process causing Isago to drop to his knees the moment the technique was formed. As Isago's body fell flat on the ground, Jonathan exited through his nostrils. Fully formed and no longer in Sage Mode, he looked at Isago's bulging, bloodshot eyes.

"I… I can't move my legs," Gōza pathetically stated. Jonathan's attention reverted to him.

He slowly approached the fallen Gōza saying, "Of course you can't. I severed the muscles responsible for movement." Jonathan wasn't just crafty; he was a skilled tactician. With every technique formed, Jonathan was already thinking several moves ahead. The skills he used weren't just for show either. They were skills that he never performed in battle yet.

Jonathan was also testing his might!

"Monster! Stay away from me!" Gōza screamed while trying to crawl away. All Gōza could hear was Jonathan crushing the sand underneath his soles. His heart was racing as Jonathan's footsteps got louder and louder…

He felt Jonathan's hand grab his head, so he screamed, "No! Please!" Jonathan faced Gōza looking at him directly in his eyes full of fear.

'Sharingan genjutsu.'

There was a reason Jonathan decided to use his newly acquired techniques out in the open. As he was quite aware of who Zetsu was. Zetsu had the ability known as mayfly, which allowed him to traverse the entire world undetected by anyone. However, Zetsu likely had not known about Jonathan. His main focus would be towards the Akatsuki's goals and ambition. Behind that goal was to resurrect Zetsu's creator, Kaguya Ōtsutsuki, the antagonist.

For as far as Zetsu and the other Akatsuki knew, Jonathan Yuan did not exist.
