Chapter 89: Chapter 89: Jonathan vs. Pakura

Pakura, the only known kunoichi who possesses the scorch style kekkei genkai. It was never recorded when she died, but Jonathan had long since known it was her after he sensed her recent fight. Her fierceness was so great that the entire Mist Village wanted her dead; as such, her own village sent her to her grave on a mission of betryal.

'He knows my name?' Pakura said to herself. She squinted her eyes at Jonathan. 'Whoever he is doesn't matter right now.' Pakura grabbed a kunai from her pouch and leapt inside the crater. Jonathan watched as she closed the distance.

Pakura swung her kunai downwards but Jonathan moved to the side. He timed his dodge so precisely that it caused her to lose balance. 'Crap!' Pakura thought. Hastily, Pakura twirled her body to back kick Jonathan.

Boom!

Jonathan stopped the kick with a raised forearm. "Is that all you got?" he menacingly asked.

In the same position, Pakura smiled as she threw the kunai at Jonathan. Jonathan's eyes slowly looked at it. Sparks began to appear from the ends of the kunai. There was an explosive tag attached to it.

Ka-boom!

Pakura was seen backflipping out of the smoke. When it cleared, she looked up and saw a smoldered rock where Jonathan was standing. "Substitution!" she screamed.

'Sage art: giant flame bomb jutsu.'

From the top edge of the crater, Pakura saw a massive flame rushing towards her. She quickly began running. The attack missed by only a few inches. Pakura quickly leapt out of the smog and landed on the edge of the crater. Arms crossed, she gasped when she felt something behind her. The instant she turned around, Jonathan's fist was already approaching.

Pakura moved her head to the side just barely dodging. She then coiled her arm around Jonathan's fist. Jonathan pulled back his arm but Pakura jabbed at Jonathan's torso. Jonathan smacked her hand away with ease. Pakura was quick; she tried to trip Jonathan's leg but Jonathan side-stepped behind her, grabbed a kunai from her pouch and slashed diagonally at her back. Pakura withstood the pain, turned around and punched at Jonathan.

Boom! Jonathan caught her fist easily.

Pakura's arm was shaking as Jonathan strengthened his grip. 'Her technique's not bad for a Jōnin, but I wonder how she is when I'm not at such an advantage.' Whether it was his choice or not, Jonathan's Simeon Sage Mode was released. Seeing this, Pakura smirked as she placed a palm on Jonathan's chest.

'Scorch style: scorching wave!'

Jonathan looked down as Pakura's palms began to light up. Kaboom!

Both Jonathan and Pakura leapt out of the smoke only ten feet parallel from each other. There was a hole in Jonathan's kimono. When Pakura looked at it she squinted her eyes. 'I know I hit him, so where's the wound?'

'Sharingan.'

Jonathan quickly closed the distance, lunging forward with this kunai. Pakura, still running, deflected his stab attempt with a kunai of her own. She then tried swiping at Jonathan, who easily repelled her kunai. The two were running parallel going back and forth ferociously. A slash to the left, a parry to defend, a swing to the abdomen, a block to protect.

The two ended their kunai clashes by leaping away far from each other. "That sharingan. Are you from the Hidden Leaf?" Pakura asked panting.

"Why ask when you'll be dead soon?" Jonathan retorted.

'Dang it. I will be if this keeps up,' Pakura said inwardly. Her vision was getting blurry after Jonathan's blow to her back. Jonathan knew Pakura would still give it her best despite that severe injury. This is what he needed, a Jōnin to help test how skillful he truly was.

'I'll have to end things,' Pakura thought. She raised her hand causing four flaming orbs to manifest around her. The orbs circled around each other and then combined into one large fiery orb.

'Scorch style: Evaporation blast!'

"Before you die, I'd at least like to know the name of the person who caused me to fail my mission," demanded Pakura.

Jonathan smirked as he weaved hand signs.

"Tsk! That's your answer, huh?!" Pakura screamed. She clapped her hands together.

'Lightning style: false darkness.'

In a large radius, Pakura's evaporation blast completely burned the entire area. Even the trees were reduced to nothing but smoldering ash.

Pakura slowly walked towards Jonathan's burnt body. She looked at his face as she held her bloody arm.

'That last attack of his managed to hit me just as I released my jutsu. It was fast, but it wasn't enough to stop me or it,' Pakura thought. She stared at Jonathan's blank face. Smoke was still evaporating from his body which was suffering from fourth degree burns. Because of the range of the attack, it was impossible for Jonathan to use a substitution technique. Pakura turned around and began walking away.

'Argh!' Pakura screamed. Jonathan's arm pierced through her back.

Pakura turned to see Jonathan's expressionless face. He was not just alive but he looked completely unscathed. "H—how did you survive...?" Pakura asked as she coughed up blood.

Jonathan removed his arm from Pakura's body causing her to fall to the ground. He then looked at her blood dripping from his hand. 'If it wasn't for my chakra enhanced strength technique, I might not have been able to pierce her that easily,' Jonathan thought. He then looked at the fallen Pakura.

"Like I said before. Why ask when you'll be dead soon?" Jonathan repeated himself as he approached Pakura. When he reached her, he saw the light fade from her eyes. Pakura had died.

Back when Jonathan slashed at Pakura's back with her own kunai, he managed to place his flying raijin mark on her. His only reason for sparing her till now as because he needed to test how efficient his cellular regeneration technique was. This technique not only saved Jonathan from Pakura's scorch style twice, but also fully healed him.

One of the techniques used to create cellular regeneration was the cellular activation technique. As long as Jonathan focused his chakra to where he was going to be dealt damage, he could minimize the damage received. Jonathan had suffered from fourth degree burns. It was painful, but he managed to fully heal those wounds. The time might not have been quick, but it hadn't mattered because Jonathan performed the flying raijin to deal his finishing blow.

In total, after Jonathan's senjutsu chakra ran out, he only used five techniques. Four if you exclude the sharingan. If by some chance Pakura was aware of the flying raijin technique, she would have been more precautious of the mark placed on her back.
