“So that…was…only…a dream?” I said, crouched down on the ground with one knee up as I tried to relieve my headache.

“That’s correct; I never sent you back in time in the first place; that’s out of my authority.”

 “I… see.”

“So, I… haven’t killed people, yet?”

“By that phrasing, I take it you’ve wholly accepted my offer?”

“Yeah… I’ll kill, I’ll hurt, I’ll do anything you want.”

I don’t care anymore…

I should’ve stopped caring a long time ago.

“I see… then, the full contract has been established, looking forward to your work, Iven.” Lilith voiced. “I expect your first kill to be within the next three days, and then you should continue from there on.”

If only I had just stopped caring about everything.

Maybe, none of this will have ever happened.

The next thing I knew, I was back on the sidewalk nearby my house.

Time hasn’t seemed to have moved forward while I was in that world.

I’m going home… I’m tired. I thought as I was about to take a step forward, but then I noticed that I was feeling something leaning on my back.

A certain warmth.

“Huh?” I uttered as I saw a pair of slender arms wrapped around my waist. “This… Alisa?”

“Mhm?” Alisa responded from behind my back as she embraced me in a hug.

“I… thought you went home.”

“I did, but I thought I’d give you a hug….”

“What… for?”

“Do I need a reason to give hugs?”

“No, but…”

“Then, let me stay like this for a while….”

“Sure…”

I don’t know why Alisa went back outside, only for her to hug me when she didn’t even know what I’d been through in a fleeting moment.

But her warmth… was certainly something I needed.

“Welcome back… Iven,” I heard Alisa mutter.

“What?”

“Nothing…” Alisa replied as she tightened her embrace.

“I see…”

However, I just stayed there and let her hug me… I didn’t know that Alisa was crying.

Ten minutes later, Alisa finally let go of me and took a few steps back.

Noticing this, I turned around to face her. “Your eyes… they’re wet.”

“Ah, they are,” Alisa responded as she wiped them off with her hand. “Don’t worry about that; my eyes just happen to tear up a bit during random moments.”

“I see… well, it’s understandable, I’ve had it happen to me a few times too.”

“Yeah…” Alisa uttered.

“Well… see you later, I’ve got to get home before it gets dark,” I mentioned as I noticed the sky turning dark.

“Yeah, see you….”

With those parting words, I turned back around and continued heading home.

But as I walked, I glanced behind me for a moment only to see Alisa heading in the other direction, back to her house.

“I wonder… if she’ll hate me if I told her….” I muttered as I continued walking.

Ahh… what am I even saying? I should just not care about it; if she hates me, she’ll hate me. I thought as I recalled what Lilith told me.

“So, you’re saying that this contract isn’t to just keep my eyes?” I asked.

“That’s correct… if that’s all there was to it, then I wouldn’t have offered the contract to you in the first place,” Lilith responded.

“Along with your eyes, I’ve also granted you the authority to use particular abilities that would best suit you should the contract be fully activated.”

“And those abilities are?”

“Suffice to say, it’s the ability to convert your body into an astral state, the same as your soul here.”

“Astral state? Meaning, I can become a ghost?”

“You can phrase it that way sure but unlike that image of a ghost that you have, you’ll be able to do anything without any restrictions,” Lilith explained. “Meaning, you’ll be invisible to everyone including any and all device used to record videos or capture images, I imagine that it’ll greatly aid your killing duties, am I wrong?”

“You’re not wrong… but that’s too convenient.”

“Make no mistake however, plenty of supernatural beings also wander the world, it’s only the people not involved with the supernatural that this ability applies too.”

“I see…”

“Do you have any questions?”

“Why…? Why are making me kill people?”

“That’s simple, it’s for entertainment and my goal at the same time.”

“And that goal is…?”

“Don’t push me boy, I will tell you in due time, once you’ve killed a certain amount of people only then will I tell you.”

“Alright… if you say so.”

“Then, I’ll return you now… I wish you the best of luck, fufu….”

“Ah,” and I next knew I was back on the sidewalk.

Devils, Demon Kings, beings that I cannot understand.

Beings of the supernatural.

I wonder… when will I be able to understand them fully?

“Ngh…” I uttered as I felt butterflies in my stomach.

She was in her green school jersey, shooting a basketball onto the single hoop stationed there.

I tried shaking off this unpleasant feeling and tried walking past her.

“Hello Iven,” Erica said as she noticed me approaching.

“Ah yeah… hello,” I replied as I quickly turned to her for a moment before trying to walk past her, ending the conversation.

“It’s odd, you’re usually never out this late on your own…. Something happened?” Erica mentioned as if defying my expectations of ending the conversation.

“Yeah… I had something to take care of,” I responded.

“Sure,” Erica added. “Hey, if you’re free tomorrow… do you mind going out somewhere with me?”

“Where to?”

“I want to show you something….”

“I’ll see…, I’ll text you before I sleep if I am free,” I uttered in response.

“Great, then I’ll see you then….”

“Sure…”

And with that, the conversation finally ended, and I returned to my house without further incident.
