Chapter 28: Chapter 26: Interlude | Clash

“Then, goodbye. May we meet again,” Lilith voiced coldly as Iven’s body burned up in a flash of bright light. 

The moment the light had died down, Iven was nowhere to be seen. 

“…” Lilith sighed. “It’s tough, keeping this up,” she muttered. 

“But, I’m a Demon King right now… I shall not let personal emotions get in the way, the old me is gone.” 

 

“Ngh!” Lilith grunted as she hurriedly turned around, and with her right hand, she blocked a single ebony blade from reaching her. “Really, what an underhanded move,” Lilith voiced as she pushed the ebony blade back with pure strength. 

 

 “▂▂▃▃▄▄▅▅!” A loud roar emerged from the being that attacked her. 

 

“You are…!” Lilith’s eyes widened in surprise. 

 

In front of Lilith was a shadowy humanoid figure with wings dark as night, crimson red eyes with a certain madness to it, holding an ebony scythe that looked like it was an extension of its body. 

“I see… so that’s where the missing core was, the core containing Demon King Belphegor’s power,” Lilith said. “If you’re form is like that, then that means… a human?” 

 

“▂▂▃▃▄▄▅▅!” The shadowy figure roared once more as it readied its scythe and flew a few more meters higher. 

“Very well, I shall challenge the mad beast you are now and take back that core if you don’t mind whoever you are, come at me…!” Lilith loudly voiced with a severe tone. 

“▂▂▃▃▄▄▅▅!” As if responding to Lilith’s provocation, the shadowy figure proceeded to attack Lilith again. 

“You’ll regret fighting in my domain,” Lilith uttered. “Even if you have the immortal slaying scythe Harpe, that scythe is no match for me when it is wielded like a mad beast yourself.” 

“Main Armament!” Lilith shouted loudly as she held out her right hand. 

“▂▂▃▃▄▄▅▅!” It shouted as it quickly swung its scythe. 

But before the blade of the scythe could even reach Lilith, a moment later, a loud clang was heard as the scythe clashed with another object. 

Appearing as though it came from thin air, a small metallic dagger of unknown design appeared in her hand. 

“Ngh!” With a force of the push, Lilith pushed back the scythe and the shadowy figure. 

“▂▂▃▃▄▄▅▅!” Flapping its wings. It moved high and back as it readied its scythe for another attack. 

“It’s my turn,” Lilith voiced. “System Access: Burn Effect, Change Shape.” 

In the next moment, as if the world had responded to her words, the dagger held in Lilith’s hand was enveloped in black flames, and the blade was extended by a few more meters. 

Her weapon had changed from a dagger to a short sword in a matter of seconds. 

“I’m coming!” Lilith spoke aloud confidently as wings of the same make sprouted from her back. 

She crouched and kicked her feet off the ground, jumping high into the air, and with the guide of her wings, she took off flying. 

Lilith closed the distance between herself and the shadowy figure in a single moment. “Hyaaa!” With a swing of her sword, she shouts aloud. 

As the shadowy figure tried to fly back, the tip of Lilith’s sword touched its left arm, burning away a layer of darkness and exposing the human skin underneath.”▂▂▃▃▄▄▅▅!”

“Heh.” 

“▂▂▃▃▄▄▅▅!” It swung its scythe again down on Lilith’s head. Still, before it could even touch her, Lilith had parried the attack and swung her blade horizontally. 

 

*Clang*

“Ngh!” As the two weapons continued to stand still, sparks flew until Lilith decided to back off. 

The shadowy figure noticed this and immediately flew towards her, not letting Lilith take distance, and swung its scythe. 

Lilith parried its attack and swung back. “Hya!” 

“▂▂▃▃▄▄▅▅!” And thus, they both began to trade blows constantly at a speed the human eye couldn’t perceive while flying all over the place. 

A human wearing the skin of a devilish monster. 

A devil wearing human skin. 

A sudden battle between them had emerged for reasons unknown. 

 

“▂▂▃▃▄▄▅▅!”

“Hyaaa!” 

 

As the battle continued, their crimson red eyes seemed to glow. 

 

“There!” After a while, Lilith had found an opening and slashed at its chest, causing the darkness in the area of the slash to evaporate, exposing its porcelain white skin underneath. 

“▂▂▃▃▄▄▅▅!”

Pressing forward as the shadowy figure was momentarily confused, Lilith swung, slashed, and cut at every possible area of her opponent. 

The arms, legs, torso, and even cheek. Layers of darkness had been cut and sliced, exposing even more of the human underneath. 

“▂▂▃▃▄▄▅▅!” 

 

“It’s over….” Lilith voiced with a cold tone as she prepared to thrust her sword. 

Lilith thrust the sword into the shadowy figure’s torso with a flap of her wings. 

“▂▂▃▃▄▄▅▅!” It screamed in pain as Lilith began to open her mouth. 

“System Access: Transfer effect from self to area.” 

In the next moment, the black flames enveloping Lilith’s short sword had also started to envelop the opponent devil.”▂▂▃▃▄▄▅▅!” 

“Burn…!” Lilith shouted aloud as the black flames wholly burned away the darkness exposing the human entirely. 

A naked human woman. 

A girl with shoulder-length black hair, black eyes, pale lips, and smooth porcelain skin. “You are…” Lilith’s eyes widened as she recognized the figure. 

“Ì̴̧̧̨͔̩͎̦͎̩͎̼̪͌̐͗͒͂̅̽̊͂͛͛̄͋̚̚͜͝͠v̶̨̛͚̰̖̰̪̪̮͈̯̫̍͊͗͋̐̒͠͝e̴̛̗̪̠̙͕̝̓͑͋̄́̀̑̈́̎́̅̚͘͝͝ņ̴̰̖̹͇͚̜͖̙̮̗͖̖̑̊̈̃̿̈̐̏̓̐͆́́̚͘͝͝.̴̱̒̐̐͊̄̂̆͌̊́̿̒͆̈̚.̸̢͔̩̰̺̠̰̲̂̉̉̐̓͐̕̚͝.̶̼͖̗̂̈́̊̿̄̐̓́̚͠͝” 

But before Lilith could even do anything next, the girl in front of her simply uttered a single word before vanishing into dust. 

 

Lilith’s short sword had disappeared from her hand as she flew down to the ground.

Once she landed, her wings folded in itself and disappeared. 

 

“She got away….” Lilith uttered with slight irritation. “I see now, so she was the irregular piece on the board.”
