Episode 2 – How to Play

 

“Log!”

Zeke was annoyed that his efforts went in vain. He hoped that the device would include an activities log.

The device shown the log system screen in response to his command.

“There’s nothing after the level up log………Support team!”

Zeke found that he received no experience after the [You are level 2 now], so he contacted the support team to get some clarification.

“Hello. This is support team. How may us help you?”

A woman’s response echoed from the device.

“Hello. I’d like to know if this is a bug or not; I killed a slime and leveled up to 2 but when I killed more I didn’t receive any exp?”

“No, sir. It is not a bug. The methods to receive exp are various. Killing an enemy isn’t the way you gain exp.”

“For example; if you attacked an enemy, you’ll gain 1 exp by acknowledging their Defense points. And you’ll gain in the opposite way as well.”

The support lady replied carefully with her calm voice.

“Oh…..so that’s how it is? I think I should learn how to play the game…”

Zeke was both surprised and embarrassed.

“You could check tutorials with the device, sir. You could change the log’s settings to be more specified as well.”

The support lady spoke before Zeke could continue.

“Thank you. I should have checked the tutorials”

While Zeke was busy contacting the support team, the last survival slime has fled away without Zeke’s notice.

“No problems. We’re glad to be in service for you!”

Zeke thanked the support lady shamefully and end the call.      

“More details log?”

Zeke tried to change the setting of log system.

……

Nothing happened.

“Tutorials!”

Seeing nothing happened Zeke changed his focus to the how to play instead.

 

“Damn, son. That’s a lotta info. I can’t remember all of this!”

“Setting!”

A screen popped out from the device. Zeke waved his finger to swipe for the next tutorial screen. After being fed up with too much texts Zeke chose to change the log’s setting instead.

He saw the option ‘More detailed log’ and turned it on. After that he opened the log screen again to check what really happened before.

 

“Ah…so that’s what happened….I do feel a bit tired and move slower….Newbie Event?”

A voice rang out from the device again, but Zeke wasn’t calling anyone. It was a voice of the device itself.

“Hmm…”

Zeke came up with an idea that the device should explain or report things without commanding it further so he opened up the setting screen and searched for such options.

Indeed, there’s such an option. It was “Report Frequency”, Zeke changed the option of Report Frequency to “Often”.

“Now…buffs!”

“I’ve discovered the slime’s Defense let’s see if I can have the device checking it!”

Zeke was satisfied with reports. He then turned around to find the last slime and prepared to point the device at it.

He looked everywhere but the slime has already long gone. He tried to track it but ended up wandered around and stopped by a river.

[Your stamina has depleted to 88.]

“Oh….yeah. I’m level 2 now.. let’s see. Which stats should I increase?”

Tired from wandering, Zeke found a small rock and sat on it. He opened his stats screen and considered his choices.

“HP is very important in many cases. But if my Attack is lower than enemies’ Defense, I can’t do anything either.”

“Alright! This should do.”

The moment Zeke stood up and attempted to take a step, he felt something was coiling around his ankles from behind. It felt sticky and wet. He used all the strength to pull his feet away but the force was so strong he felt like he was being pulled by an elephant.

 [You have angered the Slime Queen!]

“Gahh!!”

Zeke got swiped and hit a large tree. He felt like his whole body broke apart. His nose bled like a waterfall, he spewed blood from his mouth.

When he tried to turn around to check what was attacking him, he saw two blue tentacle-like mucus flowed back in the river.

[Your HP has been decreased to 2. You are in fatal injuries. Are you willing to contact the support team?]

Something emerged from the river. At first it was gigantic dark blue substances then it formed a humanoid shape and on her left shoulder there was a smaller blue slime.

Zeke’s jaw dropped at how large the slime queen is. Her body was slightly darker color than the slimes he killed before. He couldn’t see where her core is.

[You received The Slime Queen’s attack, you acknowledge The Slime Queen’s Attack stats.]

[You have received 50 experience.]

[You have received 50 additional experience from the Newbie event!”]

[You have leveled up to 8!]

[The Slime Queen is vengeful toward you.]

“Are you kidding me?!”
