Chapter 11: Chapter 11 – To Invade

The realm passage led into a valley in the unowned realm. Crumbled natural walls and large boulders matching them surrounded the immediate area. The valley spanned several hundred metres and had ledges and mountain trails all over it.

Kai was very cautious, he didn’t relax because there were 10,000 elite soldiers behind him. He had the army stay in the valley first and sent a reconnaissance team out. The first thing Kai and his generals planned to do, was check the alien planet for the differences of the land.

Outside the valley, a few native martial artists wandered around. Terra Stars spotted them before the soldiers. There were three in total, all of them exuding a strong presence. Their life presence was very strong. With just a look she could tell, even the most elite warriors of the Great Discovery Army forming a team would be no match for any of them alone.

The weakness in them could be clearly felt. ‘This realm is full of true Qi, and it developed to a good height before the realm ruler’s death’ Terra Stars recalled the information obtained from the Society of Realms in her mind.

‘The realm ruler has been dead for a long time now, the ecosystem has collapsed without their care. The True Qi on the planet is slowly decreasing with the decrease in vitality.’

As the true qi decreased, the strength of the martial artists here also decreased. If it were this realm’s heyday, there would be thousands of martial artists in this realm. Even 100,000 troops of the Great Discovery Army’s level would be useless. Terra Stars would never dare attack such a realm, but now it was in decay.

From the size of the realm, she could tell it was impossible to support a large number of extraordinary lives like martial artists. Terra Stars observed the warriors closely. The clothes on the three of them were tattered, and there was evident hunger on their faces. A lack of food from ecosystem collapse was the normal result of no attention, be it inattentive realm rulers or dead ones.

With the continual decline of the realm, these warriors would starve to death. It would become a truly dead realm with nothing to plunder and no origin energy to obtain.

She watched the situation outside the valley. The awareness of the martial artists was incredibly sharp. Once the reconnaissance team walked out of the valley, three heads turned sharply towards the valley. Instantly they discovered the reconnaissance soldiers hidden behind the hill.

Seeing these soldiers, the three martial artists held no surprise. Instead, there was a look of joy on their faces. They turned and discussed between themselves. One of them broke into a run, quickly traveled away from the valley. The speed was many times faster than ordinary people. He used the abilities of extraordinary energy, true qi.

“No, we were discovered!” The reconnaissance team was shocked.

Kai had followed behind the recon team. Seeing this from further away his face became a little tense and he said, “As expected of an extraordinary person, his strength is much stronger than our elite soldier.”

Keeping caution, Kai immediately ordered the recon team to turn back. No need to keep looking outside. He ordered the soldiers to start constructing simple fortifications, planning to take a defensive stance.

About an hour passed, one figure after another appeared in the distance. Once they came closer the soldiers clearly saw them. There was dozens of martial artists, each one with a strong aura. They were all tattered and even the shoes worn on their feet were torn.

After seeing the soldiers at the mouth of the valley, one by one these martial artists’ eyes lit up. There was a look of a hungry wolf to them. They couldn’t help but gulp at the sight. They were starving for a long time, thinking of the recon soldiers as food.

The leader was a scar covered man with a height of over two metres. Upon his shoulder he carried a large blade of matching length. He scanned the reconnaissance team up and down.

He licked his lips and said, “The intruders this time are actually… a group of ordinary people?”

“Ordinary people are also people, their meat may be more tender…” A petite woman next to him laughed.

“They are easy to deal with, if it were martial artists like us, maybe some of us may be killed.” A rat-like man noted.

“Just these weaklings, I can kill them all like slaughtering chickens!” A young man with tangled long hair said with disdain.

From the distant undiscovered encampment, a soldier called, “A total of 55 enemies!”

The martial artist of this realm had experience to Terra Stars’ observation. They were not surprised by outsiders. From their reaction, previous plunderers were likely successfully resisted.

“Speaking of which, this puts meat back on the menu.” The scarred man was salivating. Let alone meat, every grass, root, and bark of this realm had been eaten up.

“These dozens of people are enough for us to eat for a long time.” Said the petite woman. In a realm on the verge of death, where would any unlucky natives have etiquette or morality? To live was the most important thing.

In the face of ordinary people, the martial artist had no hesitation in moral dilemma at all.  The Immediately rushed up. Using various means to scramble to the valley. The recon team as bait hurriedly fired arrows at them. Due to the lack of iron ore in Gaia, the main material of the current arrows was copper. Their strength was much worse than what iron arrows would be. Dozens of arrows shot over. After a series of booms and clinks, they were easily knocked down by the martial artists.

“That’s it? Ordinary people are so weak.” The long-haired youth laughed.

Seeing the arrows were not a threat like this. Kai’s face changed slightly, and he ordered, “Go back to the valley and implement the second plan.”

The original first plan was head-to-head battle, to take the advantage of numbers and swarm the martial artists. But seeing that, it will not work. The recon team and Kai immediately retreat into the valley. The martial artists quickly followed behind.

Entering the valley, the martial artists stopped in their tracks, upon entering they saw a team of hundreds of people in front of them. Their eyes collectively lit up even more.

“Hahaha, there is so much food here…”

The laughing scarred man was suddenly stunned. His face progressively changed to a sour expression. He noticed around the valley, a large number of troops poured out from cracks, mountain trails, and behind boulders. At a visual guess, there was at least 5,000 people.

Although the martial artists were powerful and desperate, that didn’t make them fools. Hundreds of ordinary people were not a problem. But when that number is multiplied tenfold or an organized army, it was not easy to deal with. The cost of victory in those cases would be catastrophic. In this narrow valley their advantages were further reduced.

“Withdraw.” The scarred man whispered for all the other martial artists to hear. An instant decision. A struggle of greedy hunger and intelligence filled them. Reluctantly they turned around and retreated.

The staggered swish of bow strings snapping forwards resounded. A large number of arrows flew from all directions. A rain of arrows came from all over the place. The entrance to the valley was blocked after they passed through.

Kai had led a team of a thousand people to block it. He planned to stop them from retreating. Although they were martial artists that could use true qi, they still couldn’t fly. With sheer cliffs on all sides the only way out was the small passage in the boulders that could only accommodate two people at the widest of points.

Kai’s plan wasn’t over with just that, much like his battle plan against his brothers all those years ago. In the rain of arrows, flaming arrows were mixed in. Within the valley, a lot of kerosene was buried. Like the first use of oil in battle, it burned violently when ignited. The 10,000 soldiers of the Great Discovery Army had been prepared for a long time, armed with a simple smoke mask, they wore them quickly after they released their first wave of arrows.

Thousands of soldiers gathered around the tiny passage, a spear formation led the army. After them were further archers. Being surrounded from the front, the crowd of martial artists frantically pour through the passage.

Most arrows clang against the martial artists who waved their weapons to block them. The extraordinary of this realm was true qi, they cultivate it. The physical body became strong, but not invincible. Once directly hit it still hurt. With the intense thick smoke billowing the martial artists could hardly see.

“Damn it! Follow me out!” The scarred man shouted.

Fifty-five martial artists rushed through the boulder filled mouth of the valley. The elite soldiers that Kai had prepared were already set up there. The small passage that could only accommodate two martial artists at most was horrible.

Inside the thin passage was an ambush of kerosene awaiting them. After they entered a series of flaming arrows flew through down upon them. The flaming arrows ignited the kerosene, the martial artists were burnt like crazy. One of them had their whole body set on fire. Screaming involuntarily loud, it marked first meaningful attack.
