The microscope was undoubtedly a major invention. It was the gateway to the world of microbes. With its creation, the people of Gaia quickly discovered cells. The academics of the Babylon Kingdom had opened the door to understanding creatures themselves. The discipline of microbiology was officially established.
For the second question left by Terra Stars, ‘do you know why cold water make you sick, but hot water does not?’
Kai had a definite answer.
“Cold water contains harmful microorganisms, they are invisible to the naked eye. People get sick from the cold water containing them. Heating the water kills the microorganisms. That is why hot water does not make your sick.”
He solemnly wrote down the answer in his notebook. This year’s recipient of the Great Discovery Award, to no one’s surprise, was awarded to the student who invented the microscope. There had never been an invention of cross-generation researching significance like the microscope.
…
Discoveries and scientific progress did not halt the march of time. With the acceleration of the realm space. Year by year of peace and comfort flew by. After ten years, Discovery Academy and Research Academy continued to compete behind the ongoings of the world. Substantial research results emerged one after another, many filling the holes in their foggy understanding of the world.
The population of the Babylon Kingdom was ever increasing. Although there were no threats around them in their home world, they still maintained a huge army. It was common knowledge in Babylon to know there were alien worlds, and within these worlds were powerful civilizations full of individuals as powerful as mighty beasts of tales and legends.
The circulated story was invasion was possible at any time. Even though it was a false anecdote, Kai did not refute it. Having a sense of crisis was better than becoming slack. With the help of the two academies, the army developed rapidly.
Among the resources plundered from the Martial Arts Realm, there was dozens of tons of iron ore. Along with the premade weapons aiding in their development. The iron could be used to craft harder and sharper weapons.
A key of great growth for the army was the formation of cavalry. With the optimized environment of Gaia, the north of Babylon hosted plenty of wild horses living in the large grassland with abundant rainfall many months of the year in the past. Between Man and Kai who followed Terra Stars’ hints, the previously wild horses had been domesticated over a few generations.
The two academies further helped with the process, they made the domestication and breeding of warhorses easier. The cavalry had priority when it came to the limited iron ore. Much of it going into crafting saddles and stirrups.
The research and development of bows and crossbows high a top priority in general. The birth of the large ballista was a big event, as they were the first visible sign of there being a change to defeat the extraordinary with cold weapons.
Babylon’s technical level had rapidly increased and was far ahead of the ancient humans of Earth. But certain resources being limited slows the advancement of civilization. Without modern materials, the bow and arrow technology of Gaia had become comparable to the industrialization level of Earth’s history.
The gradual flow of time, Kai as the lord of the nation was aging. Due to managing the state affairs and working hard to contribute greatly to the nation’s technological research, his time remaining shrinks. The medical aspect of Babylon was underdeveloped, like proper ancient eras the life expectancy was not high.
Kai started to consider the issue of the heir to the throne. Unlike his father, he did not marry many wives. There were also fewer children to choose from. In this era of peace and complete unification, they were rarely pushed or pressured. Raised with some ordinary teachings.
With their comfortable positions and no pressure, Kai’s children were relatively mediocre compared to his generation. The concept of primogeniture did not exist in Babylon, but the royal family was still in use. Some of his sons had quite a few supporters behind them. With his growing age, the ministers were noisy every day about the issue of his successor.
One night, whilst watching the sky from his sickbed. Kai remembered the first time he met Terra Stars. Seeing himself in his father’s place he guessed he was picked by Terra Stars under his father’s request. He decided to ask for the same help tomorrow.
His mind drifted to sleep. His dreams were different than usual. Like watching his own day from another person’s perspective, a series of days played out before him. In the dream the idea of asking Terra Stars for help with his successor never occurred, and instead he picked his first son.
The days after that felt like they were flowing by as moments as he was watching. His teacher did not teach this son and the development of Babylon slowed to a crawl. That son’s rule ended in the same level as it was today.
Afterwards the dream restarted, this time he chose another son. The third son who had a large presence in the army. Again, he was not taught. The years flew by, and the nation passed from his hands to another’s hands, the development of technology regressed.
The dream looped several times, it progressed through the arguably possible heirs. One of his sons would be a king that drowned in pleasure, one of his daughters was similar. Towards the end of the dream, one of the younger boys grew up well and followed in Kai’s footsteps, but he was not taught by the same teacher so the advancements he made were minimal.
Kai begun to feel tired after seeing all these scenes, his thoughts brought him to believe this was Terra Stars’ answer to him. A loop occurred where an eight-year-old boy was picked. Knowing his father’s constant illness, he began asking about medicine. That was only a spark for the boy.
From there, he delved into medicine and entered the new frontier of Gaia’s technological directions. Under his rule, the nation slowly progressed technology and science, but it made several important discoveries in medicine. All of it sparked from Kai’s own sickness. When Kai saw this, the king of a nation’s heart warmed as he smiled to himself.

At the end of that loop, the ghost-like dream state ended, and Kai found himself waking up remembering clearly his impressions gained during the strange dream. He had a preference, but he still wished to ask Terra Stars, the one who picked him all those years ago.
Terra Stars noticed his calling and appeared before him. Kai went straight to the point, “World Teacher, I am troubled by who shall be my successor.”
“Your father had the same worry.” Terra replied by forming text in the same way as usual.
“I roughly know my sons and daughters… there are some talents, but I do not know if these talents are what you are looking for.” Kai stated, his bearing shifted greatly from the night before. His eyes stared at the text of Terra like a man who has lived multiple lifetimes.
The king of Babylon directly asked, “Would a daughter like me, a researcher of materials be best, or a son who would have a life time in medicine research all because of his childish worries about his father who was sick and held that passion after I left?”
Terra calmly listened and smiled to herself. This boy she taught as a child had become a wiser man than his father. She considered the choices, both the directions were important. Better materials led to better weapons and larger buildings. On the other hand, medical talents were harder to uncover to other fields and Gaia’s medical industry was primitive at most times. Unlike other fields, a talent in medicine was not easy to notice from an early age.
Seeing the bonuses in both, Terra Stars was unable to decide alone. Turning to her system. She inquired which would be better for the advancement of the realm’s technology. Without a moment to think, a result was printed in her mind. The medicine talent to complete Babylon’s scientific foundation.
With the answer, Terra Stars quickly checked where the choice was. She found an eight-year-old boy reading to learn the limited medical knowledge in Babylon. She saw Kai was right, she replied, “The son with medical talent. I will teach him.”
Kai naturally understood the meaning of the second part. If Charles was just a mediocre or average person, it would be impossible to be qualified for Terra Stars to personally teach. From that day onwards he had Charles come to the room next to the imperial study.
…
Since then, Charles was set as Kai’s successor. In the room beside the imperial study Charles often came here to learn. He accepted Terra Stars’s teachings within this room. He was a cold and honest boy, and his intelligence was uncovered over time.
When he learned about the miraculous “World Teacher” he was not surprised. Kai often behaved strange in a room alone, talking to himself. Along with Babylon’s technological explosion, rumours had already risen. Some said Kai was the son of destiny, blessed by the gods, and even capable of being able to communicate with the gods.
Charles knew these rumours and had his own thoughts. Having them proven partly true was easily processed by his mind.
…
“Teacher, this is the alcohol I made. It saved the lives of many soldiers.” Ten-year-old Charles held a bottle of unknown liquid in his hands, his cold demeanor couldn’t hide his excitement.
For Babylon’s current era, it was easy to die if you caught a cold. Serious illnesses were almost incurable. The previous realm invasion against the martial arts realm was of note. Hundreds of soldiers ended up dying, but only a hundred were actually killed in battle. The rest of the casualties were wounded and infected.
“Well done” Terra Stars praised.
Charles had extraordinary perseverance that let him start the foundation to medicine. The sanitizer alcohol in his hands, he tried hundreds of times to get the perfect ratio. This was because Terra Stars teachings were more like brief hints along with some basic concepts, leaving Charles to trial and error his way forwards.
Inside Discovery Academy, a small medical research laboratory was established. As the current king’s son and the mentioned successor to the throne, funds and resources continued to flow. Medical talents from all over the country were recruited to join the laboratory, starting a medical institute.
In the years to follow, the medical research laboratory had achieved results. The first major intention being anesthesia which was developed by Charles. Just like on Earth, its invention was a historic moment. Not long after, the second major invention was made, penicillin was created. This let the death rate of soldiers of the Babylon Kingdom to be reduced sharply.
After these inventions, Charles understood the important of medicine. A third academy was established, The School of Medicine. The fifteen-year-old Charles served as the dean. He was the only accepted one for that position because the previous two years, he received the Great Discovery Award.
With the expansion of medicine, Terra Stars gradually reduced her teaching to Charles. For Terra, stealth guidance has proven best.
