Chapter 19: Chapter 19 – Out of this World Experiences

The door of light formed again in the mountains populated by the Great Discovery Army. It connected to the first choice of Terra and allowed the people from Gaia to experience a similar alien realm to last. The passage led to a martial arts realm.

“Is this another world?” The members of the extraordinary research team scanned the new world after they passed through the passageway with the army.

This time Terra Stars chose an unowned low-level martial arts realm. The data said there were not many surviving martial artists within it. Less than fifty, putting it below the previous one.

For better training and study, the Great Discovery Army did not swarm the few martial artists immediately. Instead, they divided into several groups. Taking turns, each group went up against an enemy.

The people of the extraordinary research team followed closely behind and watched with curiosity, they observed carefully. Previously they could only study the cold corpses in the secret laboratory. Here they could have in depth observation of living subjects.

“Is this extraordinary? They really are powerful.”

“To be precise, this is martial arts using Martial Qi, a single type of extraordinary people.”

“Research, don’t chatter here.”

After the initial surprise, the extraordinary research team and the Great Discovery army were not intimidated. They repeated the cycle of groups, the first case of training finished. The leaders sent down orders to finish. Some martial artists were killed, whilst the rest were captured alive.

The plundering of the unowned realm was completed the same as last time. The humans of Gaia and Terra Stars both getting loot. Taking the creatures from the realm counts as them dying as far as the realm’s vitality was concerned.

The martial arts realm consisted of creatures the same as them. The Great Discovery Army was confidently prepared, and everyone could easily imagine martial artists. Their invasion and plundering was a resounding success. But the second realm was not so simple.

Low-level civilization slime realm was a quite uncommon realm, bordering on rare. It’s strength was stronger than the second martial arts realm.

When seeing a slime for the first time, both the extraordinary research team and the Great Discovery Army was completely flabbergasted. The jelly-like monster was not something pretty. Terra Stars watched and frowned at the slimes, they were not the cute slimes she knew.

The slimes had high aggressiveness. As soon as the Great Discovery Army entered the realm, they rushed over fiercely. The soldiers, which had been tempered by the training in the martial arts realm, were not panicked.

The set formations, arrows were shot out at once. None of them were the special vibranium arrows. The Great Discovery Army and the extraordinary research team saw the slimes were unaffected by the arrows hitting them. Even spears being stabbed at them proved ineffective.

Fortunately, the formation of the army consisted of a heavy shield line. The large and thick shields blocked the way of the slimes. With a method of defending against them, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

Seeing the strange and unique extraordinary properties of these gel bodied monsters, the army decided to construct temporary fortifications. They took on a defensive stance, then begun to slowly test methods of attack against the creatures.

The extraordinary research team observed from behind as the soldier’s defensed. They worked together to discover the various properties of slimes. The first was the easy one to spot. The intelligence of these gel-bodied monsters was not high, but they slowly adapted to tricks.

Unlike the martial arts realm, in order to thoroughly understand all the properties of the slimes. The expedition force stayed here for a full month. The aggressive slime were slowly caught alive in a trap. Making them a caged research subject.

The scholars of the extraordinary research team gathered around the cage. They prodded and discussed with interest. With this, they roughly figured out the details of slimes.

“Slimes are sticky and are a type of soft-bodied creatures.” The leader of the group of scholars recorded the preliminary conclusions in a notebook. Relating them to slugs and mollusks

“The body is translucent. The color of the exterior tends to be consistent with the local environment, similar to chameleons.”

“It can be transformed into a variety of shapes.”

“Tends to wriggle on the ground, and atop rock walls.”

“The preliminary judgement is it an omnivorous creature.”

“They have unique temperaments, some are extremely vicious and aggressive, others are milder.”

“Their stronger attacks are always simpler attacks.”

“Because of their soft and elastic body, they are capable of jumping attacks.”

“They reproduce, if we can call this that, by splitting or fusing together.”

“Slime’s weakness is… Salt and fire.”

The elderly leader of the extraordinary research team penned out the details they discovered.

“They are consciously afraid of salt and salty liquids.” He added.

At the start of the month, the Great Discovery Army could only take the defensive. As they learned more about slimes, more methods of attack were suggested. A young scholar suggested the idea of attacking with salt. Relating it to the salt fearing slugs he used to play with as a child.

This confidence draining and terrifying, ugly extraordinary creature was really afraid of salt. Once they confirmed it, they produced a wide variety of brine. After trial and error, the most suitable formula was found. Just a splash seriously injured a slime very quickly.

As an extraordinary creature, they were not so easy to kill completely, fire was needed to finish them off. Attacking by sprinkling the prepared special brine first, then using fire to kill them was the combination formulated between scholars and generals. No slime survived these two steps.

In the month they spent in the slime realm, the population of the slimes was wiped out. Majority of the 60 slimes were killed, but a few were captured alive and taken through the realm connection passage.

“This species is essentially… a species of mollusk” The research team discovered.

They concluded, “If there is no extraordinary energy in their environment, they will return to ordinary soft-bodied creatures.”

The slime realm encounter was a rare experience for both parts of the expedition team. A unique subject to research for the extraordinary research team. And a sudden situation for the Great Discovery Army to adapt to.

Most participants understood the idea that even extraordinary creatures had its own weaknesses. They just needed to find the way to target it and they won’t need to fear them. Though in the end, within a large group like the army, there was a small number of soldiers who could not adapt in their hearts, developing phobias related to the bodies of slimes.

The soldiers that suffered from phobias were directly transferred out of the Great Discovery Army, like the older soldiers of the past. New soldiers selected to fill the numbers. They were honorable and loyal soldiers so Kai and Charles both advocated for supporting these soldiers.

After the expedition to the slime realm, the enthusiasm of the Great Discovery Army was high. The extraordinary research group was even more excited for the next expedition.

In the time the expedition group was away, Kai worked hard to develop black powder. With only vague clues, the number of errors made in the process were long. Kai even wanted to ask Terra Stars directly, but decided against that, continuing to try hard.

After a month of rest after Terra Stars’ consideration of them, the third realm passage opened.

The 30,000 of the Great Discovery Army and the extraordinary research team set off on a new expedition. The size of the extraordinary team had expanded to fifteen.

The third realm was still a low-level civilization realm. In the realm a powerful species of beast lived. Blood Wolves, the near relative to the high-level species, Blood Stripped Wolves. This is the most powerful realm the residents of Gaia have faced to date.

Terra Stars didn’t inform Kai about the realm, leaving it all to the expedition team to discover. She intended to maximize the amount of experience gained. Although the data from the Society of Realm was updated regularly, sometimes details are missed, so it was better she didn’t steer them wrong incase of an emergency.

After the previous encounter with the mind-blowing slime, as soon as they stepped into the realm they took a defensive position. Once the Great Discovery Army set their defenses, a reconnaissance team goes out to carefully scout around.

“How does this planet… give me a sense of danger? It’s like the situation before encountering a beast in the southern rainforest…” A man from the research team said with some anxiety.

“I feel it too.” Others agreed.

It was not just the people of the non-combative research team. Soldiers of the Great Discovery Army who were accustomed to sensing danger had the hairs on their neck stand up. Everyone was more vigilant than never before.

A huge bestial roar sounded from the distance, coming from all kinds of positions. After a while later, several of the soldiers from the recon team scrambled back to the main base. The lead’s face as if he saw many horrors, but nothing followed him.

Charles, the leader of the Great Discovery Army, immediately ordered someone to escort the soldiers back. After they recovered, a simple interrogation happened.

Several of them reported slightly different stories about a tall beast that looked like a lion or dog dependent on the solider. Nearly three metres tall. A body covered in thick red fur. Their mouths full of sharp teeth. They said it could easily cross ten metres with a single jump.

A part of the recon team encountered one of them resting and disturbed it. He ran away in a fright, only for the beast to just roar.

“It seems the extraordinary creature of this alien planet should be this red furred beast.” The leading scholar analyzed.

With experience from multiple realms, they understood that on every planet, there was only one kind of extraordinary creature. They kept room for exceptions, but the experienced examples had made a slight bias in their minds.

Although other plants and animals existed in the realms, none of them were extraordinary or special. This was the innate limitation of low-level realms. Plus, all the realms they visited had been unowned, so the management of extraordinary creatures was gone. Any budding mutations or branching extraordinary species disappeared shortly after the realm’s owner.

If it were high ranking civilization within the realm, there would be far more than one kind of extraordinary creature.

“This beast may be very different from the martial artists and slimes we encountered before.” The scholar warned.

“Everyone must pay special attention. Don’t make the mistake of empiricism, expect the unexpected!” He solemnly continued.
