Chapter 20: Chapter 20 – Strange Beasts

Aware of the dangerous vibes of the realm and the stern warning of the leaders. Everyone frowned in worry. It was already shaping up to be completely different from the previous realms.

The extraordinary creature that existed here was not taking the initiative to attack. This made the Great Discovery Army uncomfortable. If they went out to find them, it would be dangerous. If they sent too many, the extraordinary creatures could escape before they arrive. Too few soldiers would be picked apart in the familiar territory of the beasts.

No actions were taken, the expedition group maintained the defensive. The leaders held a meeting to discuss. A heated discussion continued until finally the advice from a scholar with lots of knowledge in beasts was accepted by most people.

“Beasts, especially large beasts like tigers, generally have a strong territorial instinct.”

Charles ordered the development of strategy to be based on the judgment the red furred beasts were like that too. The army formed an elite team of a hundred soldiers. “The vigilance of the beast is likely to be very high, they are not comparable to the previous martial artists or slimes. Be prepared and be careful.” The beast scholar warned.

The elite team set off. Watching the large group, the hearts of the people raised little by little. An hour later they returned to the relief of everyone in the camp. All one hundred soldiers returned.

The leader of the team reported to the leaders with the research team present. “The red furred beast is less than a kilometer away from us, it lives in a hole.”

His report matched their guesses. They were within the territory of one, so others would not be seen.

The soldiers continued, “Its vigilance and awareness is very high, it discovered us from a far distance…”

“But the beast just walked out of the cave and glanced at us before going back into the cave.”

Having heard the captain’s recount, a strange look spread across everyone’s face. The beast’s actions was really weird to them. They expected a large beast like that to attack once there was a foreign invasion.

“Let’s adjust the strategy and continue to send teams out to investigate afterwards.” Said the elderly research team leader.

Days after the first elite group’s return. Squads were sent out one after another. Their goal was to investigate the habits and way of life of the red furred beasts.

Their results also came one after another. First was the distribution of beasts on this planet. A total of 75 was found. Males, females, young and old were spread around the planetoid. Each adult male had its own independent territory.

Terra Stars saw this discussion. She couldn’t help but thinking of something from Earth. Shut-ins, the same kind of habits that can do nothing for months. Once their drive to leave their homes is gone, they took root in their small territories. These Blood Wolves were likely lazy by nature even whilst their Realm Ruler was alive, but the power the ruler had over them drove them into battle outside of their homes.

A new plan was formulated. The Great Discovery Army begun to hunt down the red furred beast. Using the habit of the beasts, not liking to go out of the cave, and their low intelligence. Soldiers laid traps outside the cave, then lured them out. Although it was a lazy beast, it didn’t make them non-aggressive. After being continuously provoked, they left their caves. Only to fall into the dug hole trap.

The blood wolf was very powerful. Defense, physical strength, stamina, agility, everything was all greater than that of the martial artists and slimes previously encountered. But once stuck in a big pit and besieged by many elite soldiers, it eventually fell.

A soldier stabbed a long spear into the weakened beast. A stream of blood spurt out, some splashed on the soldier’s hand. Suddenly he let out an extremely painful scream. The resounding scream of the soldier sounded tragic.

Everyone present was taken aback by him. They turn to look and saw the soldier’s left hand. The location where the blood of the blood wolf splashed. As if it were splashed with sulfuric acid, it was melting at a speed visible to the eye.

The hand completely dissolved, but it didn’t stop there. The forearm of the soldier started to melt away and continued towards his shoulder. The whole arm disappearing rapidly. Many people were terrified.

The group’s captain reacted at the same time, he pulled his sword out and cut the arm off. The harmed soldier fell unconscious immediately as his severed arm becomes a melted mark upon the ground. After the emergency, the mood of the group plummeted. They returned to the main camp and informed others about it.

After hearing the blood of the blood wolves actually dissolved the arm so quickly. Everyone on the research team was surprised. Then they were intrigued.

“Perhaps the blood of this beast is poisonous?” One scholar proposed.

“Most likely…” another agreed.

They briefly found it baffling, before they remembered this was an extraordinary creature. It was naturally much more special than ordinary beasts and creatures. The blood wolf that had been killed was sent to the dissection table, its blood became a key research subject. A quick study confirmed their initial guesses and more.

“The blood of the creature is highly poisonous. It is far more terrifying than the poison of any creature we have ever seen.” The old scholar reported directly to Charles.

“This poison contains extremely strong solubility. The reason is found in the blood. We discovered a special kind of energy that propels the poison through plants and creatures. This should be the extraordinary energy of this planet.” He concluded.

Charles nodded at the scholars words. He was currently the most accomplished person in Babylon’s medical field. He understood these things related to poison clearly. Both the mentality of fighting poison with poison and learning about the problem so it can be targeted had been developed by him. He was well aware of the poisons found in Gaia.

“Continue your work, strive for more discoveries.” Charles gave an order to continue work.

Apart from the blood, the other parts of the blood wolf’s body was also of interest. Nothing topped the blood in extraordinary characteristics. With the characteristics of the Blood wolf almost all understood, Charles gave the order to hunt.

The Great Discovery Army sprung went into action. They hunted the red furred beasts of each territory separately. The low wisdom and private nature of the blood wolves meant they did not inform each other or work together. The work of the army was very smooth.

Three days later, all the blood wolves were rounded up. Because of the value of their blood, Charles ordered to try and capture as many as possible. Most of the blood wolves ended up being transported back to Gaia. Joining the caged slimes and captured martial artists as extraordinary prisoners.

With this, the expedition and plunder of the three extraordinary realms had come to an end. Terra Stars decided to let the Great Discovery Army rest for three months. In that time, they should digest their experiences and progress their knowledge of tactics and the possibilities of realm warfare.

The members of the extraordinary research team did not rest. They devoted themselves to their research and spreading their perspectives with colleagues. In order to increase the results Kai directly expanded the extraordinary research laboratory. He directly formed the Extraordinary Research Institute. Gaia’s first extraordinary research institute.

Some of the key elites were scouted from the three major schools and all over the nation. With more people joining the researching on the blood of the blood wolves was progressing rapidly. Shortly after, they found an unexpected result. The blood didn’t just work on ordinary species, it was also effective on martial artists and slimes. A vital detail discovered along with this was the blood or wolves did not degenerate over time like the slimes.

“Scarlet blood can corrode and dissolve the extraordinary energy possessed by other extraordinary creatures.” Kai excitedly reported the results to Terra Stars. The name coming from the brightness of the poisonous blood.

“Yes, you can make a whole new kind of weapon from this.” Terra replied.

She added, “Biological weapons.”

Kai was stunned by her words, falling into thought. “Right! We can use the blood of the blood wolves to make a… biological weapon targeting extraordinary creatures.”

“It is possible.” Terra Stars confirmed. Although technology was not part of the knowledge held by the world full of realm rulers and ancient families, poisons was well known.

With the words of Terra Stars, the arrival of biological weapons landed in Gaia ahead of when they did in Earth’s history. Kai naturally directed the development of such tools.

Their own experiences with the blood was very horrific, so using it against foes would prove instrumental in the fight against extraordinary creatures.

The arrival of a new research direction did not impact the existing research. At this time another weapon ahead of this age was completed. Black powder’s research and development had a breakthrough.
