A young man was lying on his back, completely naked, while running his hands through the hair of a just as naked, demi-human wolf beauty on the forty-seventh floor of the dungeon. A simple smile was plastered on both their faces as they enjoyed each other’s presence in silence.
A pitter-patter sound came from the staircase next to them, breaking the silence of the room, and another demi-human-looking woman appeared, followed by a floating ten feet black-purple dragon.
“Edward, they are here. It shouldn’t be long before they head down.”
The young man, Edward, quickly kissed the demi-human girl’s forehead and stood up.
“Thank you, Minx. How many? How strong are they?”
“There were just two of them and they don’t seem that strong, but I didn’t take them out in case other reinforcement came to check on their disappearance. I want to let you know first.” Replied Minx before turning into a bluish-white normal-sized wolf.
The other demi-human wolf girl quickly grabbed her clothes and got dressed before asking: “Are we leaving?”
“Yeah. Violet, you’re staying back with Minx. I’ll go ahead with Kali and take care of those dragons.”
Everyone nodded and Violet quickly climbed on Minx’s back while Edward rushed ahead with the dragon following him.
He easily climbed the stairs and made his way past the monsters on the first floor before saying to the dragon: “Kali, let me check the situation first.”
Seeing it nod, Edward took his wolf form and crept toward the entrance to the dungeon. There were two dragons in their humanoid form, carefully looking around the hidden dungeon entrance. One look at them and Edward already knew he could take them out with ease.
Edward closed his eyes for a moment and his body got covered by a thin layer of water. He waited patiently and, once one dragon bent down to pick up a pair of trousers, Edward rushed out from behind the entrance gate.
Before the dragon even had any idea what happened, his neck got separated from his body and he started falling lifelessly to the floor. His companion quickly turned around and blocked a water bullet heading for his face using one of his hands.
“Hiss… Bastard.”
The dragon blocked the attack, but the water bullet still penetrated his hand, traveling up to his elbow under his skin. Since he couldn’t turn in this small space, he tried to fly out, but before he could even leave the ground properly, the entire room got covered in a vortex of water blades.
Ten seconds later, the vortex dissipated, and all that was left of the dragons were pieces of flesh, bones, and scales scattered all around the room.
Turning back to a human, Edward ignored the gory scene and rushed back to Kali. Seeing that both Violet and Minx were also there, he motioned for them to follow, and all of them stepped out of the dungeon.
Looking up at the clear sky above, Edward heaved a sigh of relief and said: “Minx, Violet, now that they found this place, we must start fighting back. I would have liked if we could have got a few more levels, but this will have to do. We’ll follow the original plan. You two head to Oasis and I’ll head north. Be careful. We know nothing about what happened while we were gone, and they might have also labeled Violet as a criminal. If anything goes wrong, find a place to hide and wait until I arrive in Oasis.”
Seeing the two girls nod, Edward shared a kiss with Violet and rubbed Minx’s head gently before sending them on their way. He also wasted no time and jumped on Kali’s back before saying: “Head in that direction and fly at a low altitude. Once I signal you to, head straight to the ground and hide.”
The dragon let out a small growl and started flying towards the north as Edward turned into his wolf form on its back and started monitoring the sky, using his perfect sense to check for any dragons.
Spotting the first group of three dragons, Edward clawed Kali’s back slowly, and the dragon dove into the forest underneath, hiding in its thick foliage.
“Damn, not even one hour later, and we came upon these bastards. They don’t know when to give up.” Muttered Edward as he turned back into a human.
They continued traveling north while avoiding all the dragons patrolling the skies. It proved quite easy since dragons were only born with magic affinities and were all mages. Without having perfect sense, getting around them was child’s play for Edward.
Because of the constant stops, their journey to the City of Ashes took quite a lot longer than he expected, only reaching it late into the evening.
Once the walls of the city appeared in his sight, Edward waited for the sky to darken completely before he had Kali curl his body and hide in the forest. After making sure Kali wouldn’t get spotted from above, Edward walked forward on his own. He needed to sneak inside the city, and there was no way he could do that with a gigantic dragon in tow.
Taking his wolf form, he easily sneaked past the guards at the front gate. He was surprised there was also a dragon in humanoid form guarding the gate of the city, but it didn't hinder his infiltration at all.
The guards at the magician guild also posed no threat, and Edward easily sneaked past them, arriving in front of Circe’s magic tower.
He entered the tower, but no matter how much he searched the entire place, there was no trace of Circe in there. Judging from how the place looked abandoned, he knew she hadn’t been here in quite a while.
‘I hope she’s well…’, thought Edward as he made his way to the floor where he got his status tablet for the first time. Looking at the circle drawn on the ground, he canceled his wolf form and asked Fenrir: “Do you think we can replicate this?”
[Probably, but without a connection to the world tree, it might prove useless. The circle seems to connect to the root deep underneath the city.]
Edward nodded and gave up on his idea of making a tablet for Kali for now. Rushing out of the tower, he headed straight for Maya’s house. He needed information, and this was the best place he could think of to find any.
He didn’t even get close to her house when a small dagger flew straight at him. Using his shadow dash forward, he turned towards one of the dark corners of the roof before canceling his wolf form.

Ignoring the fact that he was buck naked, he lifted his hands and said: “I didn’t come here to fight. I need some information.”
From the shadow appeared a person wearing a mask and looked straight at Edward before saying: “I know who you are Edward, but we have orders to not let you get close to miss Mya. Are you going to leave, or do I have to make you?”
“Any chance you could pass on a message?” asked Edward with a wry smile as he brought his hands down to cover his crouch area.
“No. The guild leader told us not to kill you since he’s still grateful you saved miss Mya’s life, but we’re also under orders to not let you get close to her.”
Edward sighed and nodded before turning again and leaving. He figured he could force his way inside, but that wouldn’t really serve any purpose and would also cause more trouble.
With Circe missing and no way he could meet with Mya, he headed for the beast tamers’ guild. After checking the front street and noticing no one was inside, he broke the lock on the door and walked in. He barely took his human form when a small fox jumped from the back and turned in front of him.
“I see after all this time, your sense of style has only gotten better.”, said Phoebe with a smirk as she fixed her eyes on little Edward.
Edward figured this was the first time he was happy to see this fox. Chuckling slightly at her antics, he said: “Good to see you, Phoebe. Can you bring me some clothes and tell me a little about what’s been going on inside the city?”
Phoebe took a seat on the desk and said: “You still owe me one from the last time and now you want more? We can talk about the information, but I’m not getting you any clothes. Consider it payment for the information.”
Smiling wryly, Edward sat down on a small chair and nodded. “Fine, you perverted fox. What do you know about Circe? There’s no trace of her in her tower.”
Phoebe shook her head and said: “I don’t know much. I’ve heard the dragons took her with them when they left the city three years ago, and there has been no sign of her ever since. She should still be alive, but other than that…”
Edward frowned and asked: “If there was no sign of her, how do you know she’s still alive?”
“Consider it female intuition. Anything else?”
“What are those dragons doing?”
“They’ve made a contract with the city lord for him to help them search for you. Did you not notice all the posters around the city?”
Frowning again, Edward shook his head. He was too focused on finding out the situation that he paid little attention to anything else besides the increased number of dragons in humanoid form patrolling the streets of the city.
“There are wanted posters with your face everywhere. Quite a hefty reward at 100 000 gold coins.”
“What about Minx and Violet?” asked Edward next with a nod. He wasn’t that worried about the bounty on him.
“There is nothing on them. The dragons didn’t bother with the details and there’s no reward for them, but if you brought them with you, there might be some people who know of your relationship so I wouldn’t recommend having them walk around the city, just to be safe.”
“Do you know if Violet was labeled as a criminal as well?” that was the most important thing, or their plan for Oasis would be done for.
“I don’t know for sure, but she shouldn’t be.”
“Let’s hope so. Thank you, Phoebe. That’s about all.”, replied Edward as he got up to leave. When he reached the door, Phoebe said: “Whatever you’re planning, be careful. There are a lot of dragons all around these days, both around the city and the sky.”
A grim smile appeared on Edward’s face as he stopped in the doorframe and said: “Why do you think I came here for?”. Once he was done speaking, he turned into his wolf form and continued walking out the door.
Having gotten the answers he came here to get, he passed by Violet’s inn and checked the place out as well. The inn was closed for the night, but since there was no dust on the stairs at the entrance, he knew someone must still manage it.
Leaving the residential area, he quickly reached the forest outside and looked at the night sky after taking his human form again.
“You think making me leave my home like that has no consequences? All the struggle these years was just for you.”, muttered Edward under his breath as he summoned his status tablet.

His last three years were tough, and once he reached level 40, he could barely handle one monster at a time, but Minx didn’t have any issues with her progress. Relying on her strength that could match the monsters of the same level, Edward continued leveling slowly, eventually surpassing even his master, Circe. Only he knew how much Minx struggled for everyone’s sake, but he had to accept it since that was the only way they could get stronger. He already had the level and knowledge for Master Mage, he just needed the promotion from Yggdrasil.
Turning his sight towards the north, his eyes took a black hue and a smile appeared on his lips.
"It's time to hunt some oversized lizards."
