Chapter 26:
Family
Looking towards the voice, I saw a prim and proper looking young man. Dark hair cut short and styled neatly back. Amber eyes stared coldly, his face like stone.
"Ah, Julius," Cecelia called to him icily.
Looking at her, my heart was nearly taken from my chest. With her eyes narrowed in on him, they held a deadly glint. Yet, somewhere in her expression was something mirthful. It was damn attractive. "Are they trying to kill me? How many times must my heart try to escape in a short amount of time?" Taking a deep breath, I did my best to calm myself as she pulled my face close to hers, as if showcasing me.
"I'm sure you know Alex," She told him as he averted his eyes.
"...Yes," His words were short, curt.
"As you are aware," She continued, a relaxed yet deadly smile on her lips, "Even if you're family...if you harm him, I'll break both of your legs."
She said it with such a sweet voice that I was caught off-guard. That's when I noticed, Julius's arm was in a sling. He wore a black uniform like that for a private school, almost military in style. Form fitting and buttoned all the way to the collar. The symbol for some school on the left breast.
"He looks really young, but...why did she threaten him?"
"Cecelia?" My voice was quiet, inquiring.
"Ah, right," Her gaze turned towards me, "This is my younger brother, Julius. The one behind your kidnapping."
"I...What?" Perplexed, I looked towards him, involuntarily backing slightly away, "H-He is? Why?"
"Yes, isn't that right, Julius," The sweetness in her words were laced with venom.
Flinching, he nodded, his face of stone melting away as nervousness replaced it.
"So, what are you here to do?" She asked him, tilting her head, a deadly glint sparkling in her eyes.
I watched as Julius took a deep breath, glancing at me awkwardly before turning and bowing to me. His torso parallel to the floor.
"I-I'm sor-" Before he could get another word out, Cecelia's heel pushed down on his head.
"...Lower," She ordered, her sweet tone growing angry, "Do you think that's low enough?"
Keeping his back completely straight, and without complaint, he was pushed lower.
"L-Love..." I chimed in anxiously, reaching for her leg, "That's...you don't have to..."
"My dear," She addressed me kindly, yet with a sternness, "You have a kind heart, but he won't learn otherwise."
"B-But his arm..." Looking towards him, his arm was being pressed between his hip and torso, "That's...isn't that enough?"
She took me in with a cool gaze, and after a moment sighed. Her face softening as she smiled lovingly. Shaking her head, she removed her foot from Julius's head.
"That puppy dog look..." She almost pouted, smiling slyly at me, "It's almost unfair."
"I'm sorry..." I smiled my appreciation towards her, wrapping my arms around her in a hug, "As you said to me...I'll make it up to you."
"I'll hold you to that..." She smiled deviously, then turned a cool gaze towards her brother, "Julius, you heard him. So..."
"...I apologize, truly," His words were nervous, and whether sincere or not I didn't mind, "And...thank you."
"Juuuuuli," Yuriko's serene voice called as she appeared beside him, her arms wrapping around him, "Play with me!"

"Go on," Cecelia motioned, "There's a few things I wish to discuss with Alex. Entertain her for a while."
"...Alright," He replied simply, yet his face was uneasy.
As he slipped away from Yuriko, she chased after him like a child. Trying to grab him, but him ever so slightly out of her reach. As they moved away, I could only stare after them. A flurry of emotions running through me.
"That's...they were...interesting," I took a deep breath, trying to collect myself.
"...Yes, they are," Cecelia spoke fondly despite her recent behavior.
"Why were you so harsh on him?" I wondered, looking at her with concern, "Isn't he your brother?"
"Yes..." Her eyes became a bit downcast, "But he's too impulsive. When he heard about you, he was...worried."
"Worried?" Surprised, I was quite confused, "Why? I'm harmless as fuck."
"Ha, maybe, but he didn't know that," She laughed lightly, looking towards me with obsession in her eyes, " And, I don't know if your fuck is harmless though. It does quite the damage to me..."
I felt my cheeks suddenly began to burn as I grew embarrassed quickly.
"Th-That...how can you even...I..." Flustered as I was, I couldn't get the words out, "How could she even spin something like that into flirting? So blatantly too..."
"So cute," Taking my head into her hands, she began to paw at me, "Honestly..."
After a moment of pawing at me, causing me to get even more flustered, she released me and looked towards where Julius and Yuriko were. Watching, I saw Julius slip up and Yuriko immediately tackled him. He let out a soft grunt, Yuriko on top of him looking confused as she poked his arm, much to his disdain and pain.
"Oof...that looked like it hurt," I mentioned in concern, "You know...I've been wondering..."
"About Yuriko?" Her words were spot on as I nodded, "She's...unique, but don't let that fool you. You remember what I told you about my father?"
My blood grew cold, my mind running through a million scenarios of what may have happened. "There goes me overthinking...."
"...Yes," I nodded, responding softly.
"Well, it hit her really hard," She explained quietly, "She was always a lively girl. His good girl. It was...sickening. She was seven when I killed him, but the damage was done. Her mind became warped."
She explained how Yuriko lived rather whimsically. I was warned not to underestimate her though. She was more keen of mind than she appeared. It was just the way she was. A way to protect and be true to herself, if only a little. Cecelia looked upon the two of them with a fondness, but there was a guilt there that I felt and noticed. Placing my hand over hers, I held it lovingly.
"...Dear, it's not your fault," My words were soft as I pulled her into a side hug, "I know that look...I see it enough on myself."
"...Even so," She replied, sighing as she smiled, kissing me gently on the cheek, "Thank you, love."
Smiling bashfully, I nodded.
"Julius was only two," Her words were quiet, "Yet, he remembers some of it. Our family have good memories. Some would say perfect. He doesn't want to be like that trash. So, we've made sure he doesn't. He's protective of us as well."
"...So that's why?" I questioned, to which she nodded.
I smiled warmly, watching them all. Her head upon my shoulder, Yuriko chasing after Julius. They had a rough upbringing, but they cared about each other. It reminded me of my own family. We weren't exactly close. Fought a lot, but...they were family.
"I should...call them. Tell them I love them." It sounded like a good plan.
