[A couple months later]
In the evening, Ethan was doing his usual chores. He stood behind the counter to take orders, trying to talk to the customers as much as he could. Today was a weekday, so there were less people coming to his restaurant, and there were mostly non-corpos as the customers.
As the queue length kept decreasing, he met a familiar man. It was V, seemingly hungry.
“Ey, V.” Ethan greeted him. “What do you want?”
“Give me some tacos,” he said, looking at the menu above.
“Where’s Jack?” Ethan asked. “And what about my gig I gave you?”
“Gig? Oh, fuck, sorry, we forgot about that.” V sighed. “We’re in the middle of a big scoop right now.”
“Nova. It’s fine, I already got a replacement anyway.” Ethan said as the tacos were delivered to him, and he gave it to V. “Sounds exciting, that's why Jack’s not here?”
“Yep, Supposed to meet with the client across the street, a woman named ‘Evelyn Parker’.” said V. “Know anything about her?”
Ethan raised his brow. “Yea I know her. A friend of a friend.”
“What’s she like?”
Ethan just shrugged. “Don’t know much really. Only that she’s a doll at the clouds and has colorful hair.”
“Right, thanks for the tip, boz.” exclaimed V. ‘See ya.“
As V exited the restaurant, Ethan just stared at his back, quite curious on what the new merc’s job is going to be.

[Edge of Laguna Bend]
A Villefort Colombus Van was parked near the edge of the flooded town, the back of the van was opened, and two individuals were sitting inside the van, drinking beers casually as they watched the sunset from the distance.
The two individuals were Ethan and Judy. Both of them came from Laguna Bend, so they often watched the sunset from this place, just beside an abandoned cottage, talking about what they’ve been up to.
“I heard Evelyn came to Lizzie’s Bar.” said Ethan to Judy.
“Pfft, where did you hear that from?” asked Judy with amusement in her eyes.
Ethan just shrugged. “V. A regular of mine. He said that she’s his client.”
“Oh wow, you know everyone in this city…” Judy commented, drinking her beer. “Yea, needed someone to compile a BD for her, so she asked me. First meeting in months, but no ‘heys’ or ‘how you doin’, instead she asked me if I still lived in Suze’s basement, or whether or not I'm still dating Maiko…”
“And yet you still did her a favor because you have a crush on her, is that right Jude?” Ethan teased, and Judy just elbowed him on the stomach.
“I hate that you’re right.” She sighed. “Anyway, how ‘bout you? How’s life these past couple of months?”
“Oh you know, same old.” Ethan shrugged. “No big gigs lately, just some small ones to keep the restaurant running.”

“Some boring life we have huh?” Judy pointed out.
“Hey, at least we’re alive and free.” Ethan said casually.
Judy sighed, drinking from her bottle again. “Editing porn all day is starting to kill me from the inside…”
“You sick of city life?” Ethan asked, sipping from his beer bottle.
“Sometimes…” Judy sighed. “Why are you still here, Eth? You’re loaded, you can leave Night City whenever you want.”
“To where?” Ethan continued. “All places are the same, corpos controlling them, rich bullies the weak, rather stay here where at least I have friends, rather than leaving alone.”
“So that’s it? You’re just going to stay here all your life? Accepting assassination contracts even though it’s useless? You know it is, those corpos execs will just be replaced by another one once you cut their heads off.”
Ethan didn’t say anything, instead he kept drinking. “What about you? Why haven’t you left?”
“I was planning for it.” Judy answered, leaning against her van. “When I broke up with Maiko, I was ready to leave, but, when I came to your restaurant, I felt hesitant… I mean, shit Eth, all our lives we only know Night City, so I guess a part of me is just scared…”
“But now?”
“...I don’t know yet.” she said. “I’ll finish my loose ends first, after that, maybe I’ll go.”
Ethan just hummed at Judy’s answer. He leaned against the van, and stared at the giant dam at the distance. “Maybe I’ll blow up that dam first, then I’ll leave this city.”
“Are you gonk?” Judy scoffed.
“What? I’m serious.”
“There’s definitely something off with your head.” Judy shook her head in amusement.
Ethan just chuckled at her insult, and kept drinking his beer. “Hey, before we leave Night City, why don’t we go for a dip?”
“Dip?” Judy raised her brow.
“Ya know, going to the town.” Ethan pointed at the lake. “Who knows, maybe we’ll discover something new from the place, or we can finally find Jenni Chapman’s doll.”
“Ha Ha.” Judy rolled her eyes. “She always has a crush on you, you know?”
“Well, that’s quite unlucky for her.” commented Ethan absentmindedly. “Because I had a crush on somebody else.”
“Ugh, whatever.” Judy said, standing up from her van. “Alright, when? You have the gear?”
“I can buy it later,” said Ethan. “How about next week?”
“Erh, too quick, I need to get something that can take us down there.” said Judy. “Next month?”
“Sure…”
