Back to the time when Lucas was about to return to the starting point...
'Rustle' 'Rustle'
He saw the end of the multiple rows of jet-black trees indicating that he was close.
Right when Lucas was expecting noises of countless humans talking to each other, he realized that something was weird.
'It's oddly quiet. Maybe this isn't the right place?'
Then, he walked silently to the last tree and took a peek at the other side of it.
His eyes immediately went wide open as he saw the sight of several human dead bodies lying on the ground.
The corpses were mostly dismembered with horror filling their expressions as they died. Some were even mangled up to the point that their insides were all over the place.
The previous fountain was destroyed with only the bloody water flowing as proof of its existence.
Lucas was greatly shocked at this scenery and stepped out of the woods.
He took steps towards the fountain as he saw the faces of the dead humans.
Lucas frowned when he recognized a familiar face.
'That's the woman from earlier.'
He kneeled on one leg and took a closer look at the body.
"This is horrible... her lower half has been pulverized. Don't tell me?! It came here?"
Seemingly comprehending something, he stood from his position and examined the corpses.
"All of them were running in that direction."
Lucas was gazing at the opposite side of where he came from.
Holding his weapon, he dashed away with a serious expression on his visage.
'I hope some are still alive.'
Fifteen minutes later, Lucas was finally sensing several life presences inside the dark forest.
He made small careful steps as he wasn't sure if it would be a human or a monster.
Looking in front of him, he noticed that it wasn't a human. It was a horned monster half of his height.
A Greenhorn was currently munching on a cut-off limb of a person.
This being seemed to have noticed him because just as the moment Lucas looked, it lunged at him.
"Kieeek!"
The beast thought that it would have another delicious prey to devour.
Sadly for this monster, the current Lucas was not the same as him hours ago.
The Greenhorn attacked with a forward slash like most of them. These so-called green creatures only had little intelligence, so they rely mostly on their instincts to attack like an animal.
Lucas was bored of this one pattern slash that he experienced too many times today.
With his current status, he managed to one-shot the abomination with a stab to the forehead.
The small body frame of this foul existence slumped away on the ground as it lost its life.
Shocked filled the eyes of the Greenhorn, it realized too late that this human wasn't a prey at all, but a dangerous predator out for revenge.
Lucas withdrew his pointy stick from the monster and grabbed the red-coloured Loop from its body.
Getting used to the process, he simply put it up against the colourless Loop on his wrist and it vanished as it got consumed.
'Boom!'
Suddenly, a commotion was heard from the north of the forest. It was far away from him, but thanks to his newly acquired Spirit status that made him more sensitive, he managed to locate the sound.
Lucas ran forward once more to see his enemy.
After some minutes of running and fighting other monsters, he saw another open expansive space.
This time though, there wasn't a fountain in sight.
A gigantic mansion was standing in front of him.
It reminded him of a European stone mansion that was built more than a century ago.
It was bizarre seeing a human-constructed building that shouldn't have been here in this strange place.
Lucas saw that this mansion had a dense violet aura surrounding it like a box.
He also detected that countless other humans were looking at him from inside the building.
"Hey. Over here. Come up quick."
Farhan was the only one who gestured at him to go to the mansion while the others didn't want to get involved as they just stared at him.
He walked towards the massive building and saw corpses of Greenhorns with holes in their bodies.
Getting closer to the mansion, he put out his stick to touch the violet aura or the mana around it.
His weapon felt blocked for a second, but it passed through easily when the barrier detected that it was a human being holding it.
Lucas didn't want to risk anything as he just recently found out how dangerous mana was
Feeling no danger from the mana, he was able to go inside without a problem.
Right beside the entrance of the building, two black people were watching him in surprise.
"You were alive? How?"
Kelvin asked in a doubtful tone.
"Who are you?"
Lucas grew wary when he saw that the guy had a colourless Loop on his arm and was using a handgun. He gripped his weapon.
"Oh, my bad. I'm Kelvin, a policeman. And this guy is my fellow worker, James."
Kelvin saw this as he put away the firearm while presenting himself and his friend.
"Didn't you go to the forest? How did you survive?"

James asked in wonder when he saw that flimsy wooden stick in Lucas's hand.
"Did you fight them with that thing?"
The other policeman asked him in turn.
"Yes. I used this to kill them."
Lucas waved around his weapon in the air.
The two fellow guys had their mouths wide open as they were flabbergasted about what he said.
It was understandable. The thought of someone trying to kill those abominations was hard enough.
Given that modern humans lived in peaceful times, almost no one would try to fight the Greenhorns.
But, this guy achieved it, with a feeble stick that could break off at any moment in time.
"Even if that thing is sharp, how could you even think of doing that against those bastards."
James couldn't believe it as the only one he saw fight the monsters was his friend who had a gun.
No one was brave enough to battle against the Greenhorns even if you give them a cold weapon let alone barehanded.
And yet, this guy has done it with a wooden stick.
"Anyways, come inside first. Let's get you treated. We need to tell you everything that happened."
Kelvin suggested to Lucas as he saw his injury-filled body beneath his tattered clothes.
Lucas nodded and went inside along with the two policemen.
The insides of the mansion were extravagant.
A bright chandelier was hanging above while there were tables and chairs right beside the staircase.
The only weird thing was that above the tables were canned food, bandages, some beverage and other types of useful stuff.
At present, other humans were crying on some of the chairs while some were staring at them warily or to be precise, at the newly arrived person.
Lucas didn't care about their gazes as he followed the two people who were leading him.
"Lucas! You're here."
A man in a grey shirt voiced out at him while descending the stairs.
This guy was smiling at him as he walked toward their group.
Farhan then read the situation and just sat down.
One of the policemen took something from the table and waved at him.
"Go sit down. I'll go disinfect your wounds first and wrap them up. We can talk later."
James was holding a disinfectant and a bundle of bandages.
Feeling grateful, Lucas nodded and sat down.
After five minutes or so, his side chest and left arm were now covered tightly with bandages.
"So, can we talk now?" Farhan spoke to the group.
"I'm really curious about what happened to you. Oh, we haven't even heard your name. My bad."
James laughed when he just realized this fact.
"I'm Lucas. Twenty-seven years old. I'm a kendo practitioner as you can see."
He made some thrusting motions with his weapon.
"Ohh! So that's why you have that stick in your hand. That's crazy! Even if you knew kendo."
Kelvin exclaimed as he clapped his hand.
"Was that the reason you were so confident when you left earlier?"
The Indian man joined the conversation.
Lucas simply nodded his head in response.
"Still, that's fucking insane! That means you had the skills and guts to fight those monsters."
Farhan was amazed upon realizing this.
"We need to talk about what happened in the fountain."
James suddenly said as everyone adopted a serious expression.
"It was truly a disaster. No one knew that the monsters would just come to us."
"Everyone was unprepared given that their mind still hasn't adapted to the situation."
He continued to talk while a guy stood up from the other side of the room and pointed at them.
"Hey! It can't be helped. Even now, some people still haven't accepted what just happened."
'Damn, he was listening.'
The policeman thought in his head.
"Anyways, we need to figure out what to do now. Don't you guys remember the words of the guide? Survive for a whole day and come to the fountain."
The Chinese man from before also joined in while holding his sleeping daughter in his arms.
Lucas finally noticed that everyone else except Kelvin didn't have a Loop on their arms.
"But, what should we do? Go to the forest and fight those things outside!?"
An Asian woman voiced out as well and the surroundings went quiet with her words.
"I want to ask something. Where did the green giant bastard go? Didn't it come here?"
Lucas gathered everyone's attention and asked.
The masses then remembered the traumatic memories of where a giant monster was leading the other Greenhorns and chased them nonstop.
