"Are you okay?" she asked as she helped me to my feet, and I nodded.
"I'm fine," I answered, brushing off the dirt from my clothes. "But that was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be."
"Yeah, Dungeons in this world are no joke," Chloe said with a serious expression on her face. "You should probably rest up before we tackle the next one."
I nodded my head in agreement as we made our way back to the ATV. I didn't want to admit it... But I was exhausted, both physically and mentally... And that thing had really taken a lot out of me! That and it had drained my health bar, but Chloe gave me a drink that completely restored me as I sat in my turret seat on the back of the massive ATV.
"What is this drink?" I asked, knowing that Chloe had been in charge of packing the things that weren't related to killing, and I hadn't really paid attention.
"It's called an 'Essence of Life.' It should restore your health and energy," Chloe answered as she got on the ATV and started it up.
I took another drink from the canteen-like container and felt my energy levels start to come back up as we started to drive deeper into the ruins of the once city. It looked like we were going to have our work cut out for us if I wanted to clear the next dungeon in this area... But I was determined to do it!
I looked around, but surprisingly, there were no monsters in the area. With Chloe's annoying ability to attract monsters, I would have assumed we would have had a few on us, but that wasn't the case. The city had become eerily quiet, and Chloe was even driving with the engine geared down to make a quiet rumble as we moved along.
"What is with the silence?" I asked after a bit longer, looking around to see no monsters.
"I'm not sure," Chloe answered, her eyes scanning the area as well. "But it's kind of creepy."
We drove for a few more minutes in silence before we came to a large building that looked like it might have been some sort of office complex or something in its previous life. Chloe parked the ATV and got off, looking around carefully.
"This is the dungeon," she said after a moment, and I nodded as I shouldered my M16 before getting off the ATV myself. This place was getting creepier by the second, and I just wanted to get us inside the safe zone.
We walked into the building, and it looked to be the entrance of a small office building. I had no clue how many floors it had before, but that wasn't really important.
"So, with the last one, it all seemed to be on a single floor in a single room. Is that normal or a lesser or mini-dungeon?" I asked, but Chloe shook her head.
"I'm not sure. I think it just depends on the dungeon," she answered, and I sighed deeply before looking around again.
"If you say so," I muttered as we cautiously started to make our way through the building.
It didn't take long for us to find another marble pedestal that was placed between two elevators. This time, the round gem was red, giving it a more ominous feel. I knew I would have to take this one on again by myself, but I had got some things from the last dungeon that I hadn't looked at yet. I also need to look better at my status window to see how I am progressing.
"I am going to take a second here before I go in to look at some things I said, and Chloe nodded as she came over to take one of my hands and kiss me on the cheek.
"You did really amazing in the last dungeon. I didn't tell you before, but I was really impressed with how fast you got it done, but try to take a bit less damage this time; your health was dangerously low," Chloe said with worry in her voice, and I kissed her back.
"I'll be careful, I promise. Just stay here and wait for me, okay?" I asked as we pulled away from each other before turning back to look at the red orb.
Chloe nodded her head, and I summoned my status window and was impressed with what I saw.

Everything looked great there, and I noticed that my health bar had gotten slightly bigger. I was more than likely going to need that in the dungeon. Then something dawned on me, and I turned to Chloe.
"Do you have any potions for me to take into the dungeon?" I asked, but Chloe shook her head sadly.
"You can't take potions in, and any potions you take before going in will lose effectiveness the moment you enter the dungeon," Chloe explained, and I sighed.
So that meant I couldn't take any health potions with me... Which was going to be a pain. "What am I supposed to do if my health gets low?"
"Try not to get hit? Get good? Not sure what else to tell you at this point," Chloe said with a giggle, and I rolled my eyes. Still, I knew she was only trying to cheer me up, so I moved my screen over to my inventory, and I noticed that there was a blue sword, and there was also a black cloak, so I pulled up the information about the sword first.
[Name: Midnight Frost]
[Type: Longsword]
[Attack: 150-165]
[Defense: 0]
[Description: A powerful sword that is infused with the power of ice. It is said to be able to freeze an opponent in their tracks.]
Then I noticed that there was a notification telling me that I had equipped the sword, and my health bar increased by two hundred points, bringing it up to nine hundred and sixty! That was a pretty big increase, considering how much my other stats had grown!
I had yet to use a sword, but because I could learn all weapons, I could get better with it and even learn skills to use with them. I summoned it, and the long blade had frost coming off of it.
"That is really pretty !" Chloe said in awe as she looked at the blade, and I nodded my head. It would be really useful against anything that was weak to ice.
The next thing that I checked out was the black cloak, and when I opened up its information, there was only a short description.
[Name: Specter's Cloak]
[Type: Armor]
[Attack: 0]
[Defense: 45 ]
[Description: A black cloak that is said to be worn by ghosts and other spectral beings. It seems to be made of shadows themselves.]
When I equipped the cloak, my health bar increased again by one hundred points! This brought me to full health, which meant this dungeon must have given some pretty good loot! Then there was another notification letting me know that my 'Headshot' skill had increased to level three! This meant that while active now deals extra damage with headshots by fifteen percent instead of ten!
That would come in real handy against any humanoids inside this dungeon since they tended to have their vitals in their heads! I looked in my inventory for other things, but the rest was stuff that I might be able to self or craft things out of and was not really important right now.
"How do I look?" I asked as I looked down at the cloak that looked like it burned with a darkness that was hard to look at. There was also a hood so I would be able to hide in the shadows.
"You look like a badass!" Chloe said with a grin, and I put the hood up.
"Glad you approve," I muttered as I stared at the orb, dreading what was going to happen when I walked into that thing... But there were two things that were for certain: I had to get stronger if I wanted any chance of killing Ace, and the best way to do that was by conquering these dungeons.
So with no other choice in the matter, "Time for round two," I said before taking a deep breath and stepping through the red orb...
