Chloe drove us down to the ruins of the city, and I made a few long-distance kills getting me extra experience. I had a ton of notifications, but I closed them all, refusing to take my eyes off the surroundings. We were out of the city, meaning there were no safe zones where monsters couldn't come.

We had to be vigilant, and I didn't want to get caught off guard. Chloe drove the ATV into a large building that looked like it might have been a hotel at one point in time, and I hopped off, looking around cautiously with my gun at the ready.

"Where is this dungeon?" I asked as Chloe started walking towards the stairs.

"It should be deeper in, but there is a minor dungeon in this hotel. I will come to the safe area, but then I think you should clear it before taking on the big one," Chloe explained as we got off the ATV.

"Okay, so I just have to clear a couple rooms and fight a boss?" I asked as we walked into the building, but Chloe shook her head.

"No, dungeons aren't like that in this world, from what I read on the computer. You just have to clear them. There are no specific rooms; you just have to clear out the area," Chloe explained, and I nodded.

"What kind of monsters am I looking to face?" I asked as I looked around the partial building that must have once been a really nice hotel.

"I don't know for sure, but I think most of them will be humanoids," Chloe answered as she looked at her quest tracker.

"Shouldn't there be some sort of indication on here?" I asked as I pulled up my own tracker and looked at it. There was nothing but a blinking cursor on the screen.

"No, it doesn't work like that. You just have to go in and figure it out as you go along," Chloe explained, and I sighed deeply before looking at the center of the room, where there was a blue, glowing orb on a marble pedestal that looked in pristine condition. "That is how you start the dungeon. Just put your hand on it when you are ready. Since this is a dungeon, I will have to wait out here, so I don't get in your way, but you should check over your stuff before going inside. You got some new levels and skills, right?"

"Yeah, I got a few things," I answered as I looked over my new skills and levels. It looked like the 'In The Zone' passive had unlocked another level, and it was now at level two. That meant that all of my firearm skills would cost fifty percent less energy to use... Which was pretty amazing!

The next skill that I got was one called 'Burst Fire,' which would allow me to shoot three shots in quick succession for ten percent more damage per shot... But it increased the recoil on my gun by fifty percent while active.

After looking over my new skills, I put away my Chaos Trigger before pulling out my M16. Chloe watched me silently as she leaned against the wall, her arms crossed over her chest as she waited for me to finish getting ready.

"Are you sure you don't want any help?" she asked after a few minutes of silence, but I just shook my head no. She wasn't trained for combat like I was... And if anything happened to her because she tried to help me... It would be all on me!

"No," I said firmly as I shouldered my rifle before walking towards the center of the room where the blue orb sat, waiting for me to challenge whatever dungeon this hotel contained within its walls. "I can handle this."

Chloe rushed over and grabbed me tight before giving me a passionate kiss that took my breath away. "Be careful," she whispered as she pulled away before I could say anything, and I just nodded my head before turning back to the orb and putting my hand on it.

As soon as I did, the room started to shake slightly as the blue light grew brighter and brighter until it was almost too much to look at... And then, with a flash... Everything went dark.

Suddenly I was back in the hotel, but it was back to brand new, and everything sparkled. Then there was an ear-piercing scream that made me step back with shock as the hotel lost its shine, and the walls started to leak blood. I turned around to run, but the doors had disappeared, and there was only a brick wall.

I felt something touch my shoulder, and I spun around with my gun at the ready... But there was nothing there. I started to back away slowly as the room got darker and darker until it was dim lighting. I took a deep breath and put up my gun as I started to hear moaning, paired with shuffling and dragging noises. It didn't take much to tell me what I was facing.

Zombies.

I brought up my M16 and took aim as the first zombie staggered into view. I put a round between its eyes and watched as it fell to the ground with a thud, but there was no time to celebrate as more and more zombies started to fill the room. I gritted my teeth and started firing, not caring about conserving ammo anymore. These things were going down one way or another!

I shot zombie after zombie, not even bothering to keep count at this point. They just kept coming no matter how many of them I killed... But eventually... They stopped coming, and the room was eerily silent once again, aside from my own breathing, which sounded loud in my ears.

I cautiously walked around the room, looking for any stragglers that might still be lurking around... But thankfully... There weren't any. It looked like I had cleared out this entire dungeon on my own without too much trouble!

I turned to leave, but the brick wall was still there, and then I felt that tap on my shoulder, and I spun around with my gun at the ready... But there was still nothing there. Suddenly, the room started to fill with that thick fog again, and I started to back away slowly.

I turned and ran towards the wall, but no matter how hard I tried... I couldn't get through it! It was like running into a brick wall! The fog was getting thicker and thicker, making it hard to see... And then I felt something grab onto me from behind!

I was flung across the room, but I caught myself, switching out for my Glock, activating some skills as I started to run with my gun out. I had to find a way out of here before whatever was stalking me caught up to me!

The fog was so thick I couldn't see more than a few feet in front of me, but I could hear something moving around in the fog... And it sounded like it was getting closer and closer.

I turned and fired blindly into the fog, screaming as something grabbed onto my leg and pulled me toward the darkness. I felt teeth sink into my flesh as pain flared through my body, and I started to shoot into the face of the black-cloaked specter that was attacking me.

Suddenly, the grip on my leg loosened, and I was able to pull away before it could do any more damage, getting to my feet with a limp.

I looked around, trying to see where it had gone, but the fog was so thick that I couldn't see anything. I started to back away slowly, my gun still at the ready as I tried to listen for any sign of where it might be... But there was nothing.

Suddenly, the black cloak came for me, but I switched out for the M16 and unloaded the gun using 'Suppressive Fire,' pounding the creature back from me. I screamed as it grabbed onto my leg again, but this time I was able to break free and put some distance between us.

I looked at my health bar, and I saw that I was down to less than half... But the good news was that the creature's health bar was almost empty as well!

I took a deep breath and started running towards it with my M16 out in front of me. It turned to run, but I quickly caught up to it before emptying the entire gun into its back. It let out a blood-curdling scream as it fell to the ground, twitching slightly before going completely still.

The fog started to dissipate slowly until the room was finally visible again, and I collapsed onto the ground with relief as the room changed back to the bronked down hotel ruins, and I looked over at Chloe, who ran over towards me with a worried expression on her face.
