The entrance ceremony was over for a little while now and the students were settled in their respective classrooms.
The large hallways felt like a ghost town as I walked through them.
"Class 1-4 should be around here"
I was right on my guesstimate.
The classroom was just around the corner.
Ok my normal high school experience starts now.
Taking a deep breath, I opened the classroom door and entered.
Instantly I felt the cold stares of my new classmates.
Alright this is awkward. I'm not sure how long they are going to keep staring at me.
Briskly walking to the front of the classroom, I handed the envelop to the teacher who thanked me.
After scanning the room for a vacant desk that I could sit at.
I found one and it was next to the same female who assisted me with directions earlier.
Ok I guess my luck is changing, a seat next to an attractive young woman.
We temporarily locked eyes and she broke out of my gaze quickly
Making my way to the desk, I sat down quietly and observed the class.
They all seem familiar with each other already so me attempting to any type of 'Let's be friends' action would feel like a 3rd wheel type of vibe. Well to me at least.
The teacher then took to the front of the class as the bell rang.
She looked young I would argue that she could be around her mid 20's
Her attire which was a black business suit screamed no non sense so this was indeed a straight forward woman.
Which is a pain for me because I would have preferred a laid back teacher.

"Listen up and listen well. Welcome to the institute and congratulations on making it here. We expect you to keep excelling while you're enrolled as well. My name is Ayumi Aiko and for the next three years think of me as your wicked step mother so don't expect me to coddle you"
Everybody gave their undivided attention to her as she spoke. Now wanting to miss a single word after all it is our first day here.
She continued "Here at the Institute of multilayered advanced learning, you were assigned to classrooms randomly via lottery system so there would be a fair way to distribute the students. So the faces you're looking at could possibly be the same faces you see for the next three years."
I wonder what she meant by possibly, does mean we are allowed to transfer to another classroom?
"We have a normal school environment apart from the class clashes that would be held periodically. Before you ask, the class clashes will be the board of directors creating an environment of healthy competition between classrooms"
So the clashes were basically an excuse to put us against each other so we can all strive for something besides graduation.
"Currently all the first year classes are unranked and the system goes from 1st to 4th. 20 points for first place, 15 points for second place, 10 points for third place and 5 points for fourth place. The class in each year group that holds onto first place the longest after your three years, gets first preference when internships, university recommendations/scholarships and even job offers are being handed out"
Hmm offering something like that will hook most students because graduating from this school is basically like buying a winning lottery ticket and getting one of those perks being offered is equivalent of purchasing a second winning ticket as well. You'll be set for life.
The entire class stared to murmur.
I couldn't blame them for being excited because I wasn't. Mainly because I didn't really need to compete for those things. If I drop out right now, my parents would take me with open arms. I guess I am just a privileged piece of trash.
"Um excuse me Miss Aiko, when will the first clash be?" asked the girl sitting next to me.
She seem excited to tackle the idea of engaging in one already.
"That's an excellent question, the first clash could be announced at any time even right now"
Oh I see in an attempt to keep us on our toes, they withhold the schedules of the class clashes. That sounds fun and stressful also something I would do if I ran the school.
"One more thing about the clashes you all should know. Classes can wager points, students and anything else. It's called raising the stakes and in order for a wager to be placed. The two wagers must be of equal value, say like putting up twenty five points for a chance at snagging up another classroom's student. It's possible if the value matches up"
Raising the stakes you say? That has peaked my interest a bit. So maybe I will have a bit of fun in this school.
Miss Aiko then asked "Anymore questions."
No one raised their hands or spoke up. I guess that explanation was good enough for them.
"Good now moving on, the school guidelines have been emailed to your student accounts. Read it to get a fair idea on the rules of the school and avoid getting kicked out for something stupid. Also the school expects you to solve your issues with other students on your own unless it is a very serious matter then you may come to us"
Fair enough, as future adults we do have to solve issues on our own. Hopefully I can avoid said issues.
