Chapter 14: Pokémon Battle!

[3rd POV]

"What's a Pokemon Battle?" Lucius asked.

"It's a battle between trainers, and trainers are people that raise pokemon," Deoxys said and hinted at Alice and Lucius.

"Um, how exactly does it work?" Alice said with a raised eyebrow.

"Do you still have Charmander's care sheet?" Deoxys asked and Alice nodded and handed Deoxys the paper.

[Name: Charmander

Gender: Male

Type: Fire

Ability: Blaze

Moves: Dragon Tail, Scratch, Smoke Screen, Ember, Growl]

[A/N: FYI The pokemon will have one egg move then all the moves it learns up to level 10]

Deoxys pointed at the list of moves, "Under the trainer's command, the pokemon will use these moves to attack the opponent's pokemon, the winner will be decided until one side fainted," Deoxys explained.

"Eh, doesn't that hurt?" Alice's voice was full of concern as she hugged Charmander tighter, she couldn't even imagine Charmander getting injured!

"There's no need for concern as fighting was common between pokemon and it help pokemon grow stronger. Their bodies are resilient and I will heal the wounds after the fight." Deoxys said.

The duke looked at his Larvesta and he could tell that the pokemon was excited about the prospect of a battle: "Okay, I want to try."

"Eh, father?!" Alice yelped.

"As Miss Deoxys has said, this will help our Pokemon grow stronger," Lucius said as his Larvesta seemed to be oozing fighting spirit. He knew what Deoxys said seemed to be the truth as he have seen Akel's Machop which was very powerful.

"O..okay, I guess we could try..." Alice eventually gave in as Deoxys led the two of them to the backyard.

The yard was fairly large with berries growing at the border. Deoxys guided Alice and Lucius to the centre of the yard where there seemed to be white markings representing a field of some sort. Deoxys ordered the two to stand across from each other and explained to prepare their pokemon.

Alice was giving Charmander some pep talks while Lucius calmly read through Larvesta's information:

Type: Fire, Bug

Trait: Flame Body

Moves: Ember, Flame Charge, String Shot, Zen Headbutt]

"Are both trainers ready?" Deoxys asked.

Alice and Lucius nodded as Deoxys announced the beginning of the pokemon battle: "Um Charmander use Ember!" Alice commanded as Charmander's cheeks puffed up before spitting out tiny fireballs at his opponent.

Lucius frowned as the Ember crashed into Larvesta. Alice grinned but to her shock, Larvesta doesn't seem to be fazed by the attack.

"Larvesta and Charmander are both fire-type pokemon, thus, fire-type attacks won't be effective," Deoxys said.

"Ah... I see, then um Charmander use Dragon Tail!" Alice exclaimed as her pokemon's tail glowed with a green light.

"Dodge it," Lucius ordered and Larvesta leapt away and Charmander's tail hit nothing but air.

"String Shot," Lucius said as silk shot out of Larvesta's mouth, the silk wrapped tightly around Charmander and binding it in place.

"Charmander!" Alice yelled with concern.

"Now Zen Headbutt," Lucius said as Larvesta dashed towards Charmander and smashed her head into the lizard.

Charmander cried out in pain and Alice frowned as panic crept in: "U..Use Scratch!"

Charmander's claws seemed to glow with white light as it destroyed the silk bindings and slashed at Larvesta.

Larvesta winced and created distance between the pokemon: "Can you keep on?" Lucius asked and it nodded, 'What is this feeling.....' The duke thought as he found himself to be enjoying this.

Duke Redwall grinned as his heart was pounding from the thrill. It reminded him of the first time he ever wielded a sword!:

"Good, approach it with another Zen Headbutt!"

"Fight back with Dragon Tail!"

Both pokemon charged as their attacks collided with each other.

*BOOM*

Smoke covered the arena as Alice watched nervously. When the dust cloud dissipated, Larvesta was seen standing next to the collapsed figure of Charmander. The fire lizard's eyes seemed to form swirls indicating that it had fainted.

"Charmander has fainted from battle, Larvesta won," Deoxys announced the result.

Alice rushes to her Charmander as she checked his wounds. Charmander woke up and he was saddened by the loss: "It's my fault Charmander, I shouldn't have panicked." Alice apologised with a dejected tone.

"Char...." The pokemon snuggled against Alice to cheer her up.

Lucius watched with a smile, he suddenly felt a slight tugging at his pants. The duke glanced down and saw Larvesta staring at him with anticipation. He chuckled and patted the bug's head: "Good Job..."

Larvesta's eyes glowed and the pokemon nodded in satisfaction: 'Pokemon may not be such a bad thing after all....'

"That was a wonderful battle, how does it feel?" Deoxys asked.

"It was exhilarating...." Lucius muttered.

"It was also exciting, but I got scared when Charmander got hurt," Alice answered.

"That's a normal reaction as Pokemon are more than just a pet, they're our friends." Deoxys explained, "Please pass me Charmander, I will fix his injuries."

Alice gave Deoxys her Charmander and Deoxys cast Heal Pulse. A bright pink light illuminated Deoxys's palm and Charmander felt warmth. All Charmander's injury we healed in an instant. Lucius's jaw dropped to the floor.

"That's healing magic....." He mumbled, "What Akel said was true...."

The duke's mind was spinning, he should report this to the king, 'We have to get on her good side, we can't let her leave and go live in another country.'

Diamond rank adventurers have a reputation for being wild cards. Their strength allowed them to do anything and thankfully what was keeping them in check was their own honour. Besides, the creatures known as pokemon will be beneficial to the kingdom!

"Wow, Charmander's all good now, thanks!" Alice said.

"It's nothing," Deoxys replied, "Before you go, may I introduce you two to some items we're selling?"

Deoxys brought Lucius and Alice back inside the shop. It gestured at the pokeballs that Ilulu helped put on display: "What are these?" Alice asked as she picked up a Pokeball.

"Please threw the ball at Charmander," Deoxys instructed.

Alice was hesitant but she still followed Doexys's command and gently tossed the Pokeball at Charmander. The Pokeball opened as it absorbed Charmander, the ball shook a few times and with a ding, the Pokeball stopped. Alice panicked and stared at Deoxys, demanding an explanation.

"There's no need to be afraid," Deoxys said and picked up the Pokeball, it unlocked the latch that was on the Pokeball. A white light emerged from the ball and Charmander reappeared.

"Char Char!" Charmander chirped happily and Alice exhaled in relief.

"This device is a Pokeball," You will be able to store Pokemons in them to carry them whenever you go.

"Amazing...." Lucius muttered, "How much are these?"

"I will charge them 20 silver coins," Deoxys answered, "This was mainly because they could be mass produced."

Lucius and Alice bought a Pokeball for their pokemon as they were ready to leave: "By the way, Miss Deoxys, do you mind if I spread the information on pokemon?" Lucius asked.

"I don't mind, in fact, it will be doing me a favour," Deoxys said and bowed at a slight angle.

Lucius relaxed, he wasn't sure if reporting to the King will anger the woman but since Deoxys said it was fine then it should be fine right?
