Chapter 34: Battle in the city

Deoxys activated Protect as a bolt of lightning rained down upon the pokemon. It kindly responds to the attack with a Psycho Boost. A large energy ball gathered at Deoxys's chest and the pokemon send it toward the undead.

The Lich King flew out of range as the sphere exploded like a tiny nuclear blast. Deoxys suddenly teleported in front of the Lich King. Before the monster could react, Deoxys used Brick Break and smashed its fist into the lich's face.

The Lich King crashed into a random building like a torpedo. Before the Lich King could recover, Deoxys fired a barrage of Shadow Balls, Charge Beam, and Dark Pulse into the crash site, creating a rainbow-colored expression.

There was silence until the clouds of dust disappeared revealing the Lich King. Its body was damaged from Deoxys's relentless attack but it eventually regenerated and returned back to its original condition.

Lich King flew up to Deoxys with a cautious gaze: "You're strong...." The monster commented.

"I thought undead are incapable of fear," Deoxys replied.

The Lich King shook its head: "Join me."

"Why..."

"Aren't you bothered associating with these lowlifes?" The Lich King reasoned, "My Goddess could grant you even more strength than the fake Goddess currently ruling over this world."

Grydia's symbol on Deoxys's palm flashed briefly, sending a small jolt to Deoxys's core. The pokemon could able to sense Grydia's worry and anxiety as Deoxys remained silent.

"Strength is everything in this world, with strength, you could achieve anything you would imagine, there must be something you always wanted to do?" The Lich King explained.

"Like everyone else, you also must have someone that you want to see again?"

It saw Deoxys visibly flinch at its provocation. If the monster could express its emotion, it would be sniggering with joy, 'By helping me, I could bring that person important to you back to life. How about it, I would make it happen if you serve under me."

Almost immediately The Lich King felt a tremendous amount of pressure. If the monster wasn't alive, it would've suffocated under the aura. Deoxys glared at the monster: "Lying will make your death slower..."

"I'm speaking the truth, death was merely a small hurdle for me."The Lich King said.

"In your mind, if the term alive meant this," Deoxys gestured at the zombies and skeletons running rampant through the city: "Then there's never room for negotiation."

Deoxys instantly fired an Ice Beam as the Lich King barely managed to protect itself with a barrier. Lich King countered with its own magic spells as the battle in the sky continued.

Back in the City...

"Earth Shatter!" Akel shouted as he slammed his hammer onto the ground.

The stone pavements split open as earth spikes ruptured from the ground. The skeletal wyvern swung its sharp claws and the earth spikes were smashed into pieces. The undead knight synchronized with the wyvern's attack and rushes at Akel.

The guild master hurriedly blocked as the enemy's sword crashed into his weapon, creating sparks. He pushed the undead away before countering with his hammer. Akel knelt down and he huffed as his breath became heavy. His armor was damaged and slash marks littered his body. Blood trickled down from the wounds and his mind was starting to get dizzy.

The undead knight was still standing imposingly in its stance with the wyvern behind it. As a guild master, Akel's strength was something that shouldn't be joked about and even he was slowly being pushed into a corner.

The battle has been extremely tough for both of them. The undead's swordsmanship was unmatched and Akel suspected that his opponent was someone who was very powerful before they died. What was also irritating was the wyvern, it was fast and hit hard while covering the undead knight's weaknesses.

"Maa..." Machop muttered while wincing in pain as the pokemon leaned against Akel's arm.

Machop have been injured as it took a direct hit from the Wyvern's tail: "Rest now, I will finish this fight." Akel said.

Machop growled at Akel and pushed itself off of Akel's grasp. The pokemon wasn't willing to give up and it would fight all the way to the end: "Your injury is too grave, surrender now and I will give you a painless death." Caius said to Machop.

The pokemon glared at the monsters with anger. Surrender? How could he? Machop would never forgive himself if he ever let his master fight alone. Machop slowly stood up and roared at the undead in the challenge and a strange phenomenon happened.

Machop's physique began to glow a brilliant light and the pokemon felt warmth as strength was pumped into its body. The pokemon grew in size and Akel watched with shock. The light disappeared, revealing its new form.

"MACHOKE!" The pokemon bellowed.

"So that's evolution...." Akel watched with awe before pinching the bridge of his nose.

He smiled before erupting into laughter: "HAHAHA, Now I can't slack off either!" He put his helmet back on and stood up.

"Let's do this friend!"

"MA!" Machoke shouted with affirmation.

Just as they were about to charge, Akel heard a voice in the distance: Ember!

A flurry of flames struck the wyvern and knight at the side as Lucius arrived.

"The hell took you so long?!" Akel grumbled,

"There is some undead blocking the way," Lucius replied as he shook off the rotten flesh sticking to his blade. Larvesta was sitting on his shoulder as the bug pokemon stared at Machoke with dissatisfaction.

When Lucius spotted Machoke his eyes widened: "That's..."

"HAHA, That's right! My Mahcop has evolved!" Akel shouted.

"Tsk," Lucius clicked his teeth, "Enough talk, I will deal with the undead knight and you kill the wyvern."

"Sounds like a plan!" Akel laughed as he and Machoke rushed toward the giant beast.

Lucius entered his stance as he readied his sword: "I always wanted to duel with someone strong," He muttered.

"Then at least keep me entertained human..." The knight replied.

Lucius merely smirked as their swords clashed.
