Chapter 62: Tournament begins!

Today was the day that everyone was waiting for. The beginning of this world's first Pokemon battle competition! Everyone excitedly awaits the day, and when it finally comes, the streets turned into chaos with laughter and festivities. People from all over the country rush into Ardes to witness this spectacular festival. In the span of eight months, the culture of pokemon battling has already traveled far and wide and became one of the most popular activities to date.

A total of two thousand contestants have signed up for the event. Deoxys highly underestimated the number of participants and the pokemon was at a loss on how to deal with this situation. Deoxys was currently sitting across from Arthur in his office as they discussed this situation.

"Two thousand huh?" The king whistled.

Even with the high increase in population in Ardes within one month, Arthur was still stunned by the number. However, despite this, it wasn't a horrible thing, as of lately, the revenue of the Kingdom has increased drastically. A few weeks ago, the stadium finished construction and tickets begin selling immediately. There were twenty thousand seats and tickets for those seats were sold out in the span of one day. With that, Ardes single-handedly became one of the richest cities in the world.

With this large population of people, not everyone had a place to stay so camps were set outside of the city walls. Thankfully, there haven't been any major riots as of yet, with the help of the knights and Twilight Shield, the streets were relatively peaceful.

"I have a suggestion," Deoxys proposed, "We should conduct an elimination match for one week. There are currently, ten pokemon battles fields in this country and more could be made outside of the city. By doing so, we could cut down the number of participants tremendously."

Arthur nodded: "So you're saying that only the strong should fight in the stadium?"

"Correct, that way people could watch a much more exciting battle," Deoxys explained.

Originally, the Tournament planned to have one hundred participants battling in the stadium. However, Deoxys planned to cut down the number of participants to eight, that way it would be more manageable and less repetitive.

The King laughed: "That sounds great, however, I hope you saved a seat for us?" He smirked shamelessly.

Deoxys smiled: "Of course, everything has been arranged for,"

"Very well, just do your thing," The King laughed and Deoxys swiftly left to prepare.

A few days later...

Inside the Pokestore, Alice, Layla, and Clara sat in Deoxys's kitchen, and the pokemon poured them tea, "It's finally starting I couldn't wait!!!" Alice yelled.

Layla and Clara chuckled at Alice's enthusiasm: "So when are you guys' matches?" Layla asked.

All the information on the elimination trial has been transmitted to all the participant's Pokedex. It informed them of their candidate ID number, their time for the elimination trial, and the match's location.

"I have one this afternoon at the center of the city," Alice explained.

"I have one tomorrow," Clara replied.

Deoxys sat down beside them and listened to their conversation: "Then you should prepare soon,"

Alice nodded: "Of course but spending time with my friends calms me down!"

The pokemon hummed: "I advice you to be cautious, a lot of hidden talents have appeared,"

The three gulped, being Deoxys's early customers, it's a fact that they will stand out among everyone else. However hearing Deoxys's warning, they realized that it won't be certain that they could have an easy victory...

Alice glanced at the clock and her eyes widened: "CRAP it's going to start soon!!!" She was so invested in their conversation that she has completely forgotten the time.

Alice hurriedly rushes out of the store and waved goodbye to her friends. Deoxys, Clara, and Layla wished her luck as Alice bolted to the destination. By the time she arrived, there was already a large crowd forming.

Thankfully, a clear path was made for the contestants and Alice easily trudged through the flood of people. Her opponent was already waiting for her, it was a child who nervously fidgeted while clutching his Pokeball.

A designated referee was on the sidelines, once Alice arrived, he announced in a loud voice: "The battle between Alice Redwall and Joey will begin! Are both trainers ready?"

Hearing the name the last name Redwall, murmurs ran through the spectators and Joey became even more anxious. Usually, one shouldn't refer to a noble's name this way but Deoxys specifically made sure that all trainers were equal and titles will be meaningless in a battle. If one was reported flaunting their authority to oppress their opponents, severe punishments will be dealt with.

Alice was completely fine with being called normally, in fact, she enjoyed being treated this way. She never boasted about her family or abused people with her power so it doesn't matter: "Let's have a great battle!"

"Nn!" Joey nodded and the battle commenced.

"Go Staravia!!" Alice shouted and tossed her Pokeball into the air as Staravia emerges.

"Rattata!" Joey called out and a small purple mouse burst out of the Pokeball with vigor.

Both pokemon growled at each other and Alice's smile widened: "I will go first then! Staravia use Wing Attack!"

Staravia dived down from the sky and slammed into Rattata with his wings: "Quickly tackle!" Joey yelled.

Rattata recovered from the Wing Attack and charged at the bird: "Staravia! Dodge it and grab the pokemon!"

Staravia smoothly evaded the pokemon's tackle and the bird grasped Rattata with his sharp talons: "Now throw him!" Alice ordered.

Staravia let go and tossed Rattata into the air. The mouse began to freefall and cried out frantically.

Alice: "Now finish with Aerial Ace!!"

"Star!" The pokemon vanished from plain sight and instantly appeared before Rattata, Stravaia tackled the mouse at a blinding speed.

"Rattata!" Joey shouted in a panic.

The mouse fell to the ground with a thud. Rattata lay motionlessly on the ground, there were swirls in the pokemon's eyes, signaling his fainting.

"Alice wins!" The referee announced.

The crowd cheered, the battle was extremely fast but they were deeply impressed with Alice's skill. Alice smiled shyly and praised Joey on his battle. With that, she has successfully advanced on her first elimination trial!
