Hiyori was staying alone in the office that day while Everlong was bringing the scale with himself to somewhere, He never told her where, only said, it is too early for Hiyori to know some things and she is not yet strong enough to be there at the moment. She wanted to argue at first but her mind quickly calmed down, recognizing he would not keep her out of it if it was not true. Sitting in his chair, leaning back and watching the empty office while the sun shone in from behind her, as it was setting downwards, she felt like being in a movie. She chuckled out loudly, imagining people knocking, then walking in, kneeling next to her, kissing her hand as they asked for a favor while a violin played a familiar tune from the background.
*knock, knock, knock*
The sudden sound almost made Hiyori fall out from the chair, grabbing onto the armrests, preventing it from truly happening.
“Yes?” answered weekly and with her hearth in her throat, throbbing rapidly. Even though she was alone and not expecting anyone to arrive, Everlong did say, if someone came, deal with it as she sees fit.
“Can I come in?” arrived a weak but somewhat familiar voice.
The first thought of hers was; What if this is some kind of vampire shtick? Asking for permission to step into the room? Wait… are vampires real? She completely forgot to ask that, but she was somewhat confident that nobody would try anything in HIS office.
“Come in.” answered, fixing her posture and trying to look confident. When she laid her eyes upon who was the owner of the voice, she calmed down a little as it was Sheby, who hobbled in with a thick walking cane. She had no bandages around her body or anything that would elude to injuries, yet the weakness emanating from her was almost tangible for even Hiyori’s human senses.
“Is he… out?” asked with a frail voice, looking around as she closed the door, taking off her coat, hanging it up with a still shaking arm. Her body was still curvy and desirable, even with her goat-like legs, hidden behind a puffy trouser and boots. But in Hiyori’s eyes she was even thinner than herself!
“For today, yes.” nodded watching her coming closer and sitting down at the other side of the table, accompanied by a mild groan. “But I can deliver any message you want to leave for him!”
“I see.” replied, watching Hiyori, her yellow, goat-like eyes blinking, thinking through many things at once.
“Want something to drink?” stood up Hiyori, walking to the cabinet, opening it.
“I would not say no!” smiled a little, scanning the multitude of bottles “That cherry brandy looks nice!”
“Hm?” turned around Hiyori, facing the cabinet, looking, looking… looking… and finally finding it at the topmost shelf. “...”
She silently grumbled, murmured something, only audible to herself, before walking away and bringing over a stool, standing up on it so she could reach it but even then, she had to stretch. Sheby only realized then why her sudden dissatisfaction but she just could help herself from chuckling out.
“Yeah, yeah…” rolled her eyes Hiyori, bringing over two cups, pouring out some for both of them. “So, what would it be?” asked, handing it over. “You want to find the one who hurt you?”
“No!” replied immediately, almost spilling it out “Please… leave me out of it! Okay? I barely survived, I want nothing to do with that… thing!” argued with a whemenet voice, raising the glass to her lips.
“Oh! I thought… Well, I can understand. Then… what is it?” asked, following suit, savoring the sweet yet burning taste of the brandy.
“As you can see I am weakened and I think I need years to recover. I need help!”
“I don’t think we can nurse you, we are not that kind of agency.” answered Hiyori, licking her lips, lowering the glass in her hand “None of us are nurses!”
“I’m not thinking about that!” sighed, shaking her head Sheby “I have a friend in Hell, who wants to come over and make a deal for Asylum. She would move in with me and take care of me after that.”
“A friend. In hell. Those are two words I never imagined hearing in one sentence!” scoffed Hiyori with a mocking voice.
“Rare as it is, it can happen. If you can’t trust anyone, how do you think Hell keeps operating and not collapsing onto itself?”
“By the sheer tyranny of the strong.” shrugged her shoulders Hiyori, refilling their cups.
“That… is… just one part!” replied Sheby, unable to refute her words fully “There are those who you can trust and she is someone who I do trust! Especially because she knew when I planned to betray Hell and come to seek Asylum here! She never leaked it yet she had multiple opportunities to do so!”

“Okay, okay, I get it! She is your lover and you want to be reunited with her!” raised her hand Hiyori.
“Yes.” answered, nodding, surprising Hiyori, almost making her choke on the brandy as watching her horizontal pupils, unshaken, Hiyori knew she was not lying.
“Then why come to us?” spoke up after a short silence Hiyori. “Shouldn’t you or she go to the officials? To the Agency, to the Sigil Bearers? The Imperial Government?”
“It’s not that… easy. I don’t think she would be granted Asylum in time if she tries to go through the official channels. I need someone who can hasten things up!”
“Is she in trouble, I assume?” walked back to the other side of the desk Hiyori, sitting down and taking out a notebook that was solely hers and starting to write on the very first page, her very own first case, so to say.
“A big one!” nodded Sheby, fidgeting a little before continuing “We are… we were, in Belphegor’s side. The Prince of Sloth.”
“I know.” nodded, looking up a little, while taking notes “Continue.” tapped with her pen, remaining calm and Sheby felt like she was seeing a mini-Everlong as Hiyori was mimicking his posture and tone of voice.
“That does not mean we are doing nothing most of our time. Well… she in fact, did something big.” smiled with a bit of sarcasm.
“What’s her name?”
“Jibil… and she killed a Knight of Belphegor.” continued Sheby with a voice, akin to whispering.
“Okay.” recorded it down Hiyori without a change in her expression.
“...” looked at her Sheby with enlarged eyes before realizing it “You have no idea what I am talking about, do you?”
“Nope. None.” nodded Hiyori, unfazed by the forming grimace on Sheby’s face.
“Fuck… Okay, okay! You know about the Princes?”
“Yep.” tapped with her pen once Hiyori, letting her explain further.
“Under them are their Champions, under those are the Generals, under those are the Captains and under those are the Warriors. Every group of warriors is led by a Captain and every group has a second in command with the title Knight.”
“So Hell is nothing but an otherworldly military?” chuckled Hiyori, hearing Sheby’s explanation.
“Only the demons, directly under a Prince!” shook her head Sheby “But even a Warrior of a Prince is way above any other demon dwelling in Hell! I was only a normal one, a civilian in your terms. Kind of a self-made librarian?” smiled with nostalgia, remembering those days “I was living in a spire, filled with antique books! Jibil was different, even then, she was a Warrior! She usually came to me for information, using my knowledge, making sure she would rise in ranks! Well… it seems it went wrong sometime after I left and somehow she ended up killing her Knight commander. Now the whole group is after her and she wouldn’t stand a chance against her Captain!” finished her tale with a desperate voice, while Hiyori carefully recorded everything she heard. “A demon, as powerful as she, would need great scrutiny and preparation to be granted Asylum! By the time it happens she will be dead!”
“Where do demons go when they die?” asked Hiyori, unable to hold back the question that surfaced up in her mind.
“Nowhere.” leaned back Sheby with clear dread in her voice “When a demon dies… only the infinite darkness awaits us.”
“Good!” tapped her pen on the notebook once again, closing it with a happy smile, making Sheby scrunch her eyebrows together. “This is big, so I can’t say anything in his name! But I’ll tell him everything, word for word! I assume we are going to visit you to speak once again soon!”
“Okay.” nodded, thinking a little, getting up slowly, placing the empty glass in her hand on the table, before wobbling towards her coat, leaning on her cane. “Thank you for… listening to me at least.” looked back with a weak and defeated smile, leaving without saying anymore, gently closing the door behind her.
“...” Hiyori was still sitting in Everlong’s chair, contemplating the whole conversation, before releasing a long and deep breath “Damn… why do I even feel sympathy for a demon?”
