“I did not expect you to come so soon to cash in the favor!” sat down Minister Otsuka, meeting with Everlong and Hiyori at the City Hall. It was midday, the sun was out in full force yet the temperature was still only hovering near 0 celsius. They were now in a small room, somewhere tucked away, near the boiler room of the City Hall, an overlooked part of the building, where people would barely wander towards.
“Me neither!” followed suit Everlong and Hiyori, pulling out their chairs. He quickly summarized their purpose of coming here with a call the previous night, so what remained was to wait for Otsuka’s, or more precisely the Imperial Family’s reply.
“First things first, here!” pressed a sealed letter forward, towards Everlong. Picking it up he immediately recognized the wax seal on it, belonging directly to the Imperial Family. “The Emperor wants to show his gratitude for the tip! The things we secured are going to be a great boon for the family!”
“Mhm.” nodded Everlong, giving it immediately to Hiyori, surprising her greatly but as she looked at Otsuka she saw it in his eyes, the minister was expecting this.
“What is it?” asked Hiyori, taking it away but not opening it up, flustered by the looks of theirs.
“Declaration of Amnesty.” replied the two men at the same time while Everlong continued “It is useless to me and both the Minister here and the Imperial line knows that. So this is their saying they are acknowledging you as my partner.” looked at her while speaking “Keep it safe, if you ever run into trouble with the law, you can use it! No matter if the police, the army or the secret police is the one to take you away, this little letter here grants you immunity from all crimes in the name of the Emperor! Even if you execute someone in the middle of the city, at broad daylight, you would be out on the streets the next day. Of course, it is a one time use thing, so don’t go wild just yet~” grinned.
“Oh! T-thank you!” nodded, standing up and gently bowing towards Otsuka too who just acknowledged it with a small smile.
“We are keen to build friendships!” replied the minister before his eyes wandered back towards Everlong. “About your part of the deal… it is not an easy task that you are asking of us!”
“Keep the lies for others and not for me!” rolled his eyes Everlong “I know exactly how ‘hard’ it is for you! From my own example!”
“That was different!” raised his hands Otsuka “We are talking about a fully fledged demon who was aiming to climb high in their twisted hierarchy system! Only deciding to deflect when the chair was kicked out from under her! Even if you don’t know, I think your little protege here knows what happens with applications like hers!” smirked, gesturing at Hiyori with his hand.
“They get rejected.” answered Hiyori, subconsciously, as her body and mind reacted as if she was in school and the teacher just asked a question from her.
“Exactly!” nodded Otsuka, continuing “She is an opportunistic gold digger! There is a difference between demons, fleeing from poverty of strength, than demons who were in strength, just searching for a way out!” shook his head “The latter are troublemakers and the kind of a demon who can rarely fit into the human world!”
“Are you done lecturing Hiyori?” tilted his head Everlong, making the girl flinch, looking at him with a questioning gaze. “He knows, speeches like this are pointless to me, he is just explaining the facts to you.” whispered, not even turning towards her.
“Haaahhh…” sighed both Otsuka and Hiyori at the same time, sharing a momentarily, understanding gaze.
“You also know,” continued Everlong, ignoring the looks of theirs “that if you say no, I’ll go directly to one of the Sigilites! Then you are going to fail to cash in on the referral rewards from them!”
“Do you also know that you are the biggest, meanest, fuckiest bastard I have ever had the displeasure of meeting?” groaned Otsuka.
“Fuckiest?” chuckled Everlong “What the hell?”
“You like fucking with everyone, be it your enemy or your allies!” snorted the minister “So you are fully determined in going through with it?”
“Yep.” nodded with a grin at his question.
“Don’t be like him, okay?” murmured Otsuka, glancing at Hiyori who acted as if she did not hear him, lowering her head. “At least I tried! I am going to contact a Sigil Bearer in town, see what they think about the offer. I’ll get back to you tomorrow morning!” replied in a fully official tone “If they agree to the deal, we can proceed, working together, if not, you are on your own we are going to wash our hands of you!”
“Then that letter you got is going to come in handy real soon!” licked his lips Everlong, saying it to Hiyori who just twitched her mouth.
“Great…” murmured the girl with a low groan.
…
….
…..
“It is weird talking to you via phone!” came Otsuka’s voice, through the speaker of Everlong’s new phone. It was close to 4 in the morning and inside Hiyori’s living room, the two were watching TV when his phone rang. Hiyori quickly paused the movie they were enjoying, a parody of the story of Dracula.

“Nielsen is still one the best!” moaned Hiyori, stretching her limbs, enjoying the late night movie marathon they were having, waiting for the Minister’s call.
“Oh, am I on speaker phone?” came his voice once again, traveling through the ether. Hearing Hiyori being there was enough for him to know what was going on.
“Yep.” answered Everlong, mimicking Hiyori and also stretching with a moan. “So? I assume you have news for us?”
“I do.” replied, recollecting himself, still amused that someone like Everlong even had something like a cellphone. Must be Hiyori’s doing, thought immediately, blessed be her name! Finally he doesn’t need to cruise the city every time he has to find him for something! “We made a deal with them, they are also going to send a Sigil Bearer to oversee the transition of the demon to our world. But to provide her with Asylum we are going to have an Angel present too! For security measures, alongside a small force from the Onryō!”
“Who are they?” asked Hiyori curiously.
“The occult army of the Imperial Family.” said Everlong, explaining it quickly. “It seems they are eager to flaunt their newfound wealth from Troduc’s warehouse~” smiled before asking Otsuka “What kind of Sigillite is going to come? And who is the angel who gets the job, do we have a name yet?”
“You know both of them.”
“Fuck…” clicked his tounge immidiatly Everlong “Tell me it is not-” started to say something but the Minister cut in immediately.
“It is Frederick.”
“I hate that guy!” leaned back Everlong with an already annoyed look.
“Trouble?” blinked Hiyori, finding his expression pretty interesting and also, pretty funny.
“He is what you would call a Demon Hunter.” answered Otsuka instead of Everlong “He likes to kill them and forge new artifacts from their bodies. A very… peculiar but effective person.”
“And an extremely jealous one!” rubbed his temple Everlong, already feeling a headache coming.
“The revolver your Boss has,” continued Otsuka “is, or was, a prized relic of their order. Frederick is hell bent on getting it back from a Fallen’s hands! As he likes to call your Boss.”
“So much so, he tried to kill me a dozen times already, just in the past 40 years!” nibbled on his lips Everlong “I hate him, down to his guts!”
“Be happy Everlong!” laughed Otsuka “At least you know him well enough to work with on this case! In a battle you are going to know how he acts! Familiarity is key, my friend!”
“Oh, yes, it is! I already know that he is going to try and shoot me in the back!” rolled his eyes Everlong.
“Also, the angel in question is going to be Sylial!” continued, ignoring the childish tantrum of his “They are going to meet you next evening, at your office. Then you can move and get this deal under way! When you have the coordinates where the exchange is going to take place, send me a message and the Onryō will be there!”
“Okay, okay… thanks! I think!” sighed Everlong with a defeated voice, bringing great joy to Otsuka on the other side before the line went silent.
“Does this Frederick guy pose a big problem?” asked Hiyori, kneeling on the couch, looking at him with a serious gaze “Should we…” whispered, trying to suggest something dark, making Everlong grin and laugh out loudly.
“I like your thinking!” rubbed her head, tussling his black hair, drawing a happy smile and a red hue onto her face. “He is an utter asshole! But I can’t kill him, he has a Master who I also know and I am on good terms with!”
“Oh!” nodded Hiyori with understanding “Too bad! But I am also curious as to how someone like him looks and acts! A magician! Or… sorcerer? Wizard? What should I call him?” asked, tilting her head from left to right then back to the left.
“Call him a Sigillite. You can’t go wrong with that! They are an eccentric bunch, some like being called a Warlock! Some call themselves Witches! I call them snobs!”
