As they were driving out from Everlong’s office, Hiyori was watching Sylial’s car following them from the rearview mirror.
“That man is a dick.” spoke up after a bit of silence, prompting Everlong to nod heavily.
“A giant one at that. You did good, the look on his face when he turned around was priceless!” grinned, turning towards Hiyori.
“I… thought you were… injured!” replied with a blushed but happy expression, modifying her own thoughts, before speaking them, as in reality she thought he died by the hands of that bastard!
“I knew he would do something stupid so I came prepared. That is why I came out late, I had to wear some protective measures! Also, I know for a fact that this prick ought to try it again later on!” grumbled with great annoyance “For now, stay out of it, don’t worry, I’ll be fine! I’m taking you with me so you are learning and…” trailed off at the end but Hiyori just smiled.
“As a bait.” said slowly but her voice was gentle “I see it in your eyes, you are suspecting something and I’ll be your bait! I knew it because you went far to get me this!” raised her hand, with the bracelet on it, gently glowing in a bluish hue “I’m not stupid, all the things you did just to make sure I have this on me is very telling! Trust me, Boss, I’ll do my part perfectly!” said, flashing a wide smile.
“I won’t let harm come to you!” reached out, rubbing her head with a smile. “I may be a bastard but I protect my own!”
“I know! By the way… is that punk really a half-angel?” asked, voicing her curiosity while they were traveling.
“Spot on! He is!” nodded, really happy about how his new partner’s mind worked, putting pieces together by herself. She showed great potential in the past weeks, especially since she finally returned to her original self, free of the leech of a demonic spirit. “Angels are beings of purity, in all of the senses of the word! That means they all are also virgins!”
“Then… how?” furrowed her brows.
“Corruption. That is what they call it, anyway!” continued Everlong with a smirk “I call it humanization! She fell in love with a human, married him and had a child with him! For the fact that she soiled herself with “the mortal’s sin”, she was cast out, her wings torn off and branded as a Fallen. After that she had only a few years before she dissipated and died.”
“That is… harsh…!” sighed Hiyori and even if it was a depressing story she still felt not that big of a compassion towards Frederick.
“It is. Her other choice would have been to turn towards the other side, join up with the forces of Hell. She could’ve survived then, but she did not do that. She lived out her remaining years, taking care of her son and living with her husband, as a human. I respect that! Greatly.”
“Um.” nodded Hiyori with a serious face. “Too bad his son turned out this way!”

“He had a hundred years to mature, but he failed.” shook his head Everlong. “I don’t know how he became like this but I hate zealots, on both sides!”
“How would having joined up with Hell saved her?” asked Hiyori again, after a bit of a pause.
“All the Princes were once Angels. Prominent ones at that, close to God himself! They were slowly influenced by humans, our mindset and our feelings. To phrase it simply; They started to feel! Angels at that level are more like machines than anything so tasting emotions were like shooting up heroin for the first time for them! So they rebelled, wanting to change their ways, be like us more and less like mindless automatons. Of course, you already know how it played out and in the end they were cast out of Heaven after their defeat! If you want to know my two cents on it, they deserved it! They went too far, took it overboard and twisted their own ideals that they started out with! From love they went to domination! From sex it turned into depravity! Every joyous feeling they tasted was gobbled up in excess! Nothing was enough, everything had to be more, more and more! That was what ultimately twisted their souls and their bodies.”
“You can say that again!” agreed Hiyori “They turned the dial from 10 to 11, no wonder they became monsters!”
“Yep. That is why I say, Hell and Heaven are the same, only the different sides of the same coin! God’s side is no different, filled with mindless automatons, following His orders, His words, everything has to go by the book! Deviation from it brands you as a Fallen and you are purged! Frederick’s mother was not the first nor the last angel to fall. Some, realizing that their end is near, join Hell, where they can supplement their existence by absorbing others’ lifeforce. By then they truly live up to their name as ‘Fallen’!”
“So… you were a demon once?” blinked, looking at him with a thoughtful expression after she went through his words once more. “You didn’t turn ugly so… how does that work?”
“Ahahaha, thanks~ No, I was never a demon to begin with! I made a pact with a demon, when I was still a human and did his bidding for a long time! You could say that I was corrupted! But I never died and later on I took my freedom back! Kinda. Even then, I adhered to my own code so I did avoid some nasty transformations, regarding my appearance!”
“It had to be hard…” murmured Hiyori, watching him with eyes, sparkling like stars in the night sky.
“It was and I still have a part of me stuck in the hands of the demon I made the pact with. Honestly speaking… he let me go, for his own amusement! I’m not delusional to not realize something so obvious!” sighed with a defeated tone of voice.
“Are you working towards freeing the remaining part of yours?” asked, wiggling in her seat, watching him with a determined look, deciding she is going to help him with that, no matter how!
“Kinda. It’s… complicated.” replied, cutting it short as it was evident in his look and voice, he did not want to talk about it. “Anyway, that is why Sylial is so eager to work with me, cleansing me would be an achievement which would put her up there, with the rest of the Archangels! Be careful with her!” warned with a very serious tone “Angles are fake people!” looked at her, into her eyes while they were driving on the highway. “They have very few emotions and they actively purge them! What you see is nothing but a play, an act! They wear the mask of humanity but under it they are cold, calculative and ruthless!”
“Feels like you are describing demons…” gulped Hiyori, nodding at him, showing her understanding.
“They are one.”
