REI drank a cup of coffee he made. He had been inside this café for the past 30 minutes. After waking up, he took his bag and looked for a café inside the mall. When he found one, he didn’t hesitate to trespass. It’s not like this mall would open today after everything that had happened. And might even not open again.
He made himself a cup of coffee and a plate of sandwich for breakfast. Then he stayed there and waited for the tutorial to begin.
On the way here, he encountered some people. Almost all of them had bloodshot eyes and seemed very jumpy. He could only shake his head seeing that. If the upcoming tutorial was any similar to the trial they experienced, then they should have tried to rest. If they went through this tutorial with no sleep, wasn’t that just asking for death?
Not his problem, though.
[It will start in a few minutes.]–Cato said. [Are you ready, master?]
[As ready as I can be, I guess.]–he said in a laid-back tone, as if he wouldn’t be facing monsters again in a few minutes.
Cato was glad to hear that his master’s voice was very relaxed. In this kind of unknown situation, being calm was the best approach. Panicking would only lead to a much more dangerous situation. Maybe even death.
When the six-hour time limit ended, a virtual screen, much similar to the one last night, appeared in front of him. But unlike the one from last night, this one didn’t have any texts on it. Instead, a teenage boy could be seen sitting on a throne-like chair.
The boy had curly blond hair and was wearing some kind of military uniform. One couldn’t see his whole facial features because of the half-mask that was covering the upper half of his face.
[Good day everyone. Did you have a nice long rest?]
Rei almost squeezed the plastic cup he’s holding when he heard the other’s voice. It was the same voice that had spoken to them, the one who made all those announcements. Rei grinned with a dark face. “So, that’s how you look like, you bastard.”
[Before we proceed to the tutorial, I shall be kind enough and explain why all of you ended up in such a situation. To understand things better, you should all know that the world you’re in is just one of the million worlds in existence. These worlds are placed in different dimensions. Worlds could be classified into three—high-tier, mid-tier, and low-tier. Your world that doesn’t have any form of magic or power system and with just basic level of technology is considered a low-tier one.]
[But it was detected that your world is actually experimenting with powers beyond what a low-tier world should have. So, to fix this problem, the higher-ups held a meeting on whether they should eradicate your world or if they should give your world a chance to evolve. Luckily for all of you, they chose the latter. And so, they sent us here, the Dimensional Adjustors.]

[Our goal is to help you, the humans of this planet, to evolve into another existence. Of course, evolution is a long and arduous process. But with us here, we can shorten that time. And the fastest way to do that is to let you all face constant dangers. It took six months for the four cubes to gather all the data about your planet. This data will help us on how we should proceed next.]
[Starting from today, dimensional fissures will appear all around this planet. These fissures, that we will refer to for now as 'dungeons', will be connected to other dimensions filled with monsters quite similar to the monsters in your myths and legends. Closing these dungeons will be discussed in the upcoming tutorial.]
[We will give you five years to establish a new functioning society. If you cannot do so, Dimensional Enforcers will be sent here and annihilate all of you. So, for all of your sake, do your best.]
[To make this process enjoyable for all of us, including you, of course. We turned this into a game. It is something most humans in this world are familiar with based on the data that we have gathered. We will broadcast your progress live to beings from different dimensions. If they like you, they can give you money and all other kinds of rewards that will help in your survival. So, again, do your best.]
[Oh, yes. I almost forgot. Every game should have a name, right? We decided on something catchy. You should have already heard of the name by now. As the captain of the Dimensional Adjustors sent to this world, I sincerely welcome you to the Doomsday Game.]
After the boy smiled with a hint of mockery in the corner of his lips, the image on the virtual screen disappeared.
The same thing was happening all over the planet. Virtual screens appeared in front of each person. The boy’s language changed depending on which country the person was in. But the content of what he said was all the same.
At that point, most people probably still didn’t know the extent and seriousness of this so-called ‘game’. Probably because most felt that they were still trapped in a nightmare. But that would soon change.
Rei threw the cup of coffee in his hand. But it just went through the virtual screen. He didn’t expect that he would actually feel this angry. But before he could act on that anger, a new text appeared on the virtual screen.
[The tutorial will now begin.]
