[PLEASE, say ‘Status Window’ to see your current status.]
Rei raised one of his brows. “Status Window.”
Another virtual screen appeared in front of him the moment he said that. The way they designed it was like what a character panel in an RPG would look like. He was familiar with it since he often played RPG on his mobile whenever he had free time.
[Player: Rei (no surname)]
[Username: None (Please input one within this day)]
[Level: 1 (1/100)]
[Ability: Samaritan (EX rank)
[Title/s: The First to Slay an Orc (All orcs will have instinctive fear towards you.)]
[Sponsor: None]
Rei read the things written on this so-called Status Window. It surprised him after he finished reading. Because he was expecting an attribute panel. You know, one that would list the strength, agility, etc. and give them an equivalent numerical value. This could be a good judge on one’s comprehensive power. But the only thing on this panel that could determine that was the ‘level’.
He had a feeling that these Dimensional Adjustors probably just couldn’t be bothered to put it. That’s why they only gave a simple character panel.
This panel was pretty straightforward. The only thing that was worth attention were the last three categories. What’s this Samaritan ability? And it’s even EX rank. Wasn’t that usually the highest rank of something in a game? Like a skill, for example. Or a card in some card games.
Then, there’s the title. He got it because he killed that orc? The explanation for it sounded very helpful to him. And last, the sponsor part. Remembering what that adjustor bastard said earlier about being watched by those people from different dimensions, the probability of them being this so-called sponsor was pretty high.
A new text appeared on the virtual screen beside the Status Window.
[Congratulations to player Rei for already gaining an ability! This is the result of your outstanding performance during the trial.]
Reading that, he suddenly remembered that worse-than-death pain he felt after he escaped the building last night. Was this ‘ability’ the result? He remembered the guard who escaped that building the same as him. The other was all fine while he almost wanted to roll on the ground because of too much pain.
Then, should the pain be the indication of gaining an ‘ability’? Since the guard didn’t experience pain, he probably didn’t gain any ability. If Rei thought in accordance with this logic, then it could actually explain a lot of things.

Rei did what the text said. The Status Window quickly changed and a bunch of texts appeared on the virtual screen.
[Samaritan (EX rank)—There are two kinds of Samaritan, the good and the bad. To be a perfect Samaritan, one has to have a perfect balance between the two. If this balance is broken, then a dire consequence would await you.]
[How to use:
You are reading story Doomsday Game at novel35.com
Good Samaritan—help a person in need and make them have a good impression of you. Once you succeed, you will be able to copy their ability. (Current number of use: 1/day)
Bad Samaritan—act like you’re helping a person but betray them in the end. Once you succeed, you will be able to steal their ability. (Current number of use: 1/day)]
Reading the explanation and how to use this ability, Rei only felt a bit disbelieving. What was this magical ability? No matter how he read it, this ‘Samaritan’ ability was simply going against the sky.
Even though there’s a weird prerequisite in order to use it, the ability to copy or steal another person’s ability simply outweighed that. After all, having multiple abilities was definitely better than having only one.
But why would this kind of ability be given to him? Did it have something to do with the way he passed the trial? Did he do something special? At the end, Rei could only shrug.
The answer didn’t really matter. Since he already had this ability, then he would use it to his full advantage.
Rei didn’t have time to carefully examine the explanation for this newfound ability because another set of texts appeared on the adjacent virtual screen. This time, explaining the ‘Title’ part of the panel.
[A player who accomplished an amazing feat will be given a ‘title’. These titles could have a varying effect but most of them are positive and would help the player.]
It explained the sponsorship next. It was the same as what Rei thought. The sponsors would indeed be the people from different dimensions watching them through the live broadcast. But only those belonging to a high-tier world could offer a player a sponsorship. And the player had the choice whether to agree.
Thank God for that last part. If Rei would be forced to accept a sponsor, he might really just lose it.
[Now that the basics have been explained, let’s go to the main part. Please, enter a dungeon within an hour.]
[As this is a tutorial, we will provide you with a map.]
As if on cue, the Status Window disappeared, and a map appeared in front of Rei. The map showed an area within five miles of his current location and there were red dots spread all throughout.
[The dots represent the location of the dungeons. Again, please enter one within an hour.]
After that, all the virtual screens in front of him disappeared.
“I guess we now have the next location.”
Rei slung the bag over his shoulder and rushed out of the mall.
