[MASTER, there’s a foreign energy trying to invade your brain!]–Cato shouted.

Rei thought as much. [Tsk. Can you do something about it?]

[I will try.]

After Cato said that, he spread his own energy around his master’s brain, protecting it. The foreign energy tried to drill into Cato’s own energy. That’s when he found out that he could actually absorb the foreign energy.

So he did.

The moment he did so, some of his depleted energy, that he used to shield himself from the cubes and the so-called adjustors that came to this planet, suddenly filled up. As if the foreign energy recharged his own energy somehow. He quickly told that to his master.

Hearing that pleasantly surprised Rei. His guess that Cato’s existence must be related to these beings forcing this planet and its residence to evolve just became stronger. But now was not the time to analyze that. There’s something much more urgent. Dealing with this guy in front of him, for example.

[His ability must be something that could force people to answer his question.]–Cato said.

[No, I think it’s some kind of suggestive ability.]–Rei corrected. That could explain why he was surrounded by those six other people in a protective posture.

Cato felt like his master had a point. [Since he’s one of your targets, it’s probably better for master to act like his ‘suggestion’ worked on you. This way, it would be easier for you to trick him later.]

Rei had already decided to do that. Thinking of the movies he had watched where people had been hypnotized, he tried hard to make a blank expression. Then said in an almost robotic manner;

“Marksman. My shot never missed a target, no matter what weapon I used.”

Of course, it’s bull. But this was probably the ability that he could fake and make others believe that he really possessed.

The young man looked interested when he heard that. “Do you have any weapons with you?”

Again, the same tingling feeling in Rei’s brain came. But this time Cato was already prepared. Because Rei was no longer worried about that, he noticed something that he hadn’t noticed earlier.

The young man actually tapped his shoulder the moment he asked that question. Because he was still thinking about what to do with his ability then, he didn’t notice this shoulder tap. Should this be a requirement for the other to use his ability?

“A gun,” Rei answered, still in that robotic manner.

The other nodded. “Join my group and protect me.”

This time, the young man squeezed his shoulder instead of just tapping it. If not for acting like he was being brainwashed, Rei really wanted to punch the other. He guessed that for a stronger suggestion, a simple tap was not enough.

Rei only answered. “Okay.”

“What’s your name, by the way?” the other asked. “I’m Zach.”

“Zero,” Rei said without changing his expression.

The young man named Zach nodded and walked towards his group. Rei followed.

[Was my acting okay?]–Rei asked Cato.

[I think it’s fine, master.]

[How should I act from here on out? Like some kind of robotic zombie or something?]

[Well, based on the expressions of the people in his group, master probably doesn’t need to.]

At the mention of that, Rei glanced at the other six. None of them looked like mindless zombies. So, this bastard’s ability most likely didn’t affect a person’s normal thinking.

He wondered how the other’s ability worked. For example, the one that the bastard just said to Rei just now. Would the thought of joining his group and protecting him be suddenly ingrained in his mind?

Rei shrugged. It didn’t matter. He would know about it once he got this guy’s ability, anyway.

[I take it, master is going to be that guy’s bad Samaritan?] – Cato asked.

Rei grinned. [Of course. Dare to use his ability on me and make me one of his cronies, he definitely deserves his ability to be stolen.]

Arriving at the area where the other six were, Zach introduced Rei as a new member of their team. The others didn’t say much and just nodded at Rei.

“How much longer do we need to stay here?” one asked.

“Maybe until all the spots for this dungeon are filled,” Zach said. He turned to Rei. “You must wonder why we’re all in this clearing. There was a barrier ahead. It would probably be gone once the dungeon has 15 people.”

Rei thought so as much. With his addition, only two people were needed. As if on cue, they saw two people walking towards the clearing one after the other.

The moment the last two people walked into the clearing, all of them suddenly heard rumbling from the forest in front of them. Then, with no warning, three orcs suddenly burst through the forest and ran to the clearing. Most people panicked at this sudden turn of events.

Rei simply took out his gun and shot the eye of the orc that was about to swing its club at the spot where their group was standing. The orc howled in pain as purple blood gushed out from its shot eye.

He took that chance to drag Zach to the left side of the forest from where they were standing. Of course, Rei did not forget to look in the direction where his other target was going. The girl and her companion went in the opposite direction.

Good. At least she wouldn’t see the moment he betrayed this punk he’s dragging.
