REI walked leisurely inside. Surprisingly enough, he
didn’t meet any patrolling guards. Maybe they were patrolling in another area
around the building.

[There’s a guard inside, master. Please, be
careful.]–Cato said, giving him a timely reminder.

Rei held his Katana in one hand. Of course, he did not
pull it out of its scabbard. He’s not here to massacre these guards after all.
He’s fine with bloodshed, as long as the right people were the ones shedding
the blood. It’s because this little guy inside his head would guilt trip him
incessantly if he killed innocent people. So, it kind of became his principle
to only kill people who deserved it.

Of course, his definition of ‘deserving’ was purely
subjective. But there’s no need for Cato to know that.

He walked towards the entrance of the building. He didn’t
have to do anything because the entrance automatically opened like one of those
automatic doors. The guard sitting behind some kind of reception desk widened
his eyes the moment he saw Rei.

Rei only smiled at the other while waving his hand.
“Hello.”

Then he dashed forward. Before the guard could react, Rei
had already arrived in front of him. Rei didn’t hesitate to swing his
unsheathed Katana and hit the side of the other’s neck. Not that hard, just
enough for the guard to lose consciousness.

When the other fainted, he then walked towards the
elevator. Entering the inside, he pressed the fourth floor.

[In which part of the fourth floor is that guy’s
office?]-he asked Cato.

[Once you reached the fourth floor, I will guide you.]

It didn’t take long for them to arrive on the fourth
floor. Just like what Cato said, he guided Rei towards the office of Mark
Davis. After reaching the door of the office, Cato couldn’t help but give his
little master a bit of advice.

[Master, try to control your emotion while facing Dr.
Davis. Remember, our aim is to get information from him.]

Their real target in coming here to Oregon was Dr. Davis.
They only detoured to James Williams’ cabin in the woods because they found out
that the other was closer to their location. Especially once his master found
out that the other had the hobby of kidnapping teenage girls, raping and
torturing them.

He knew that it’s not because of his master’s outstanding
sense of justice. It’s because the other would jump at any excuse to kill
anyone who had been a part of that laboratory. Honestly, he couldn’t really
blame him. Literally speaking, they’re the ones who made his master this way.

Dr. Davis was one of the senior scientists in that
laboratory. The other was most likely present in most of the experiments done
to Rei. This meant that his master’s reaction would be even more… explosive, to
say the least.

[When did I ever lose control?]-Rei said in a tone as if
he was offended by what Cato said.

If he had physical eyes, Cato would have already rolled
them at this master of his.

Rei no longer teased the little guy and just pushed the
door forward.

He saw Mark Davis sitting behind a desk, sifting through
the files in front of him. Rei didn’t make any sound and just observed the
other. He was short and stout, with a head of balding hair. Although he looked
older, he still matched the image of one scientist in Rei’s memory.

“Hello there.”

His voice echoed in the silent office. Davis’ body
jerked, a sign that the sudden sound very much startled him. He lifted his head
and when he saw the teenager walking towards his desk, his whole body just
froze.

A pair of silvery gray eyes and a red tear mole at the
corner of his right eye. He only knew of one person who both had these
features. A child who was supposed to have been dead for five years now. And
yet, here he was, a teenaged version of the other standing before him.

“P-Patient Zero…?” he muttered, his voice full of
disbelief.

“Argh… that name again,” the teenager said, rolling his
eyes. “Do you know what happened to the last person who called me that?”

The other grinned at him, but Mark only felt the
teenager’s malice. Once upon a time, Patient Zero was the most promising
experimental subject of Project Eden. Out of all the embryo they experimented
on, he was the only one who survived to full term.

All of them thought Patient Zero would be their most
successful experiment. But after one, two, three years, nothing had happened.
He just grew into a normal child. The only difference he had from other normal
children was his high IQ. But that’s not what they wanted. So, they continued
on to experiment on him until he reached 12-years-old.

The head of Project Eden finally gave up on Patient Zero.
He believed nothing more could be done. At that time, three experimental
subjects manifested different special abilities. Their difference with Patient
Zero was that they were not grown in the lab. They were children brought to the
lab and directly experimented on.

That’s when they knew that their initial approach was
wrong. They should have just directly experimented on children instead of
thinking that a baby made from their lab would be much superior.

Just look at Patient Zero. He was an embryo fertilized in
a petri dish. He should have been special. But out of all the experimental
subjects, he was the most normal in terms of ability.

And then, Mark wondered once again how the other was
suddenly standing before him right now and very much alive.

“How can you be—”

Rei cut off what the other was about to say. “How am I
alive?” He showed a toothy grin to the other. “How can I not?”
