IN order to escape the laboratory alive five years ago,
Cato had to fake Rei’s death. It was really simple. All the rooms in the lab
where they kept their experimental subjects all had devices in them that could
monitor the vital signs of the people inside the room.

Even though Cato was not in his best state then, it was
easy for him to meddle with the device and made it look like Rei was dead. He
also made it look like the cause of death was starvation. Which was not that
unbelievable. After all, some bastard thought it would be good to see just how
long Rei could last without food.

They wanted to see if he could last longer than normal
humans. Thinking that if he did, then there might still be hope for him. Which
was idiotic, in Rei’s opinion. What could that even prove, anyway? But it ended
up benefiting him anyway, so he should probably thank that person for his
stupidity.

It was the 10th day when they started starving him when
he and Cato enacted the plan. Because if they waited for more days, then Rei
would be too weak to move, which would be very counterproductive. This would
also give the impression that Rei was indeed nothing but useless trash.

A normal human could survive for a month, even without
food. If they were too tenacious, then they could even survive for much longer
than that. So, they immediately labeled him, who could not even get past 10
days, as the trashiest experimental subject the lab had ever produced. His
useless body would definitely go straight to the incinerator.

And just like what Rei expected, that was indeed what
happened.

When the people in that lab found he died, they had
little reaction. As if it was something they had already seen coming. Those
f*ckers. So, they didn’t even send a person to take care of his ‘body’.

The floor where he ‘collapsed’ simply opened up and
swallowed him. He slid down a tunnel. He knew the tunnel would lead to the
incinerator. It was then that he found out how those bastards took care of the
children who died from their experiments.

Of course, him being here now and very much alive meant
that their escape was very successful. Look, even this baldy here thought that
he was already dead.

Rei took out the Katana from its sheath and pointed it to
Davis’ neck. Which caused the other to stiffen in fright.

“Where is that bastard? You know, the biggest f*cker in
that lab who you small f*ckers follow like you’re all his b*tches or something.”

Even though the question of Patient Zero was almost
incomprehensible, Mark still somehow understood it. Which was like him
admitting directly that he was indeed one of those ‘small f*ckers’.

“A-after a small data breach that happened five years
ago, he accepted the Russian government’s sponsorship. He set up his lab there,
even bringing Patient 1 to 5 with him.” Mark then stopped. “That breach that
happened five years ago, did you—”

“Shut up, baldy. I’m the one asking questions here,” Rei
cut off whatever question the other was about to ask.

Professor Jack Sinclair was the head of that laboratory.
Rei didn’t expect that the other would flee to Russia, even bringing his five
golden geese—the five successful experimental subjects. It seemed the virus
left by Cato startled the snake, so he moved to a new nest.

It’s no wonder that when Rei looked for Sinclair at the
start of this year, he wasn’t able to find him. Even the lab disappeared from
its previous location. So, he hunted the other scientists instead. Asking them
where Sinclair was. This was the first time that they actually found a useful
information.

“The US government actually allowed him to go to Russia?”
Rei asked, feeling that it was quite incredulous.

According to the data Cato saw when he invaded the lab’s
system, his experiments were actually being sponsored by the government. So,
the other defecting in Russia was actually funny in a way.

“They d-didn’t. He could only do that because Russia did
everything they could to bring him to their country. Because of that, all the
scientists who worked under him have been under surveillance of the government
since then,” the baldy said that last part through gritted teeth. He was obviously
furious at Sinclair’s sudden defection, which resulted in such a situation.
Then, as if realizing something, he quickly said, “That’s right! I’m under
surveillance by the government! If I died here, they would never let you go!”

Rei looked at the baldy with amusement. “Oohh, I’m so
scared,” he said exaggeratedly.

This Davis was the 6th person from the lab that he found
since he and Cato started doing this. He killed one that was operating a human
organ ring on the black market. That guy totally deserved it. That pervert,
James Williams, was also probably very dead by now. The remaining three were in
a coma or too traumatized to even talk about what happened to them.

Besides, Rei always made sure he wouldn’t leave any
traces behind. With Cato’s help, even a digital trace wouldn’t be possible.

But the real question here was, if they were truly being
watched by the government, how come they could still commit crime? Well, those
government dogs were probably just told to observe these people and then report
if they came into contact with Jack Sinclair. Anything more than that was
beyond their paycheck.

He shrugged. Not that he cared. So, they shouldn’t blame
him too much if he did his job for them.

Rei then stared at Davis, wondering what he would do to
the other.

Mark flinched. He suddenly felt like a fish on a chopping
board.
