“SHOULD I cut your arms or your legs? Maybe cutting your
tongue would be better?” Rei asked in a tone as if he was asking which flavor
of ice cream was better.
Mark shuddered. If he was standing right now, his knees
would have already buckled because of fear. He tried to calm himself, but he
just couldn’t. He could see the hidden madness in those silver-gray eyes. So,
he knew the other wouldn’t really hesitate to cut his limbs or any parts of his
body.
He suddenly felt idiotic. Just why did they ever think of
this boy as ‘normal’? Even if he didn’t meet their expectations, there’s no way
he would grow up normal under such an environment. It would twist him one way
or another.
That he managed to fake his death under the circumstance
that he was in back then showed that he was not only crazy, he was madly
intelligent as well. The combination of those two often created the most
dangerous of criminals.
Maybe the one they considered a failure would ultimately
be their downfall. He should have known that it would come to this the moment
he agreed to join Project Eden. Eventually, they would be killed for all the
things that they had done. It’s simply their comeuppance.
He closed his eyes tightly. If he died here, then so be
it.
Rei frowned when he saw the other’s reaction. Why did
this guy look like he was ready to die? He wanted to see him squirm in fear.
Seeing the other being so accepting just left a bad taste in his mouth.
Wouldn’t he look like the villain here?
[Master, for the past four years since Dr. Davis took
over, this pharmaceutical company has developed a lot of useful drugs that
helped many people suffering from genetic diseases. He even founded a
charitable institution, mostly putting his money into helping people. And from
what I’ve seen when I invaded their main computer, this company was spotless.
There’s no corruption or backroom deals happening. And we could attribute most
of it to Dr. Davis’ leadership.]–Cato suddenly said.
[So, are you saying that I should spare him just because
he suddenly decided on helping people?]–Rei asked sarcastically.
Change? Rei scoffed. If the other was a kid who loved to
bully others, then a few years later, they changed. He would absolutely believe
it. But that couldn’t apply to this guy. What he did was not just simple
bullying. He took part in experimenting on children.
What Davis was doing now was not him changing. It’s just
him feeling guilty for everything he’d done.
Rei was about to say something when a voice suddenly
echoed all around them.
[Ding dong! Ding dong! Attention to all the humans living

The voice was that of a teenage boy. It was very chirpy
and energetic. As if he was announcing something very positive.
Rei didn’t have time to ask what’s wrong because a
blinding light suddenly filled the surrounding. His eyes closed instinctively.
He wasn’t sure how long it took, but when he opened his eyes, he immediately
felt that something was wrong.
He was still standing in the same office. Everything looked
the same and yet not. It was the menacing atmosphere in the air. As if
something bad will happen at any second.
[Master, I won’t be able to communicate with you
temporarily. But please, be careful and don’t die.]
And then, for the first time in five years, he no longer
felt Cato’s presence. Rei didn’t panic. He could feel that something was about
to happen and he needed to stay calm for that.
[Goal: Escape this building within five minutes to be an
official player.]
Official player? Before Rei could analyze what this
virtual screen was or what the heck it was talking about, he suddenly heard a
loud scream. And that’s when he only remembered that he was not alone in this
office.
He turned towards Davis and his pupils dilated when he
saw the other was being pinned down by five small green creatures with bat-like
ears and a long, hooked nose.
It’s only then that he noticed that one goblin had
already pulled Davis’ heart, and the other died just like that. And since their
target had already lost his life, all the attention of the five goblins were
transferred to Rei.
One of them immediately lunged towards him. Rei quickly
swung his sword. But when it reached the goblin’s neck, the blade didn’t
penetrate its skin. Instead, the blade broke in half.
“Shit.”
