Chapter 24: Chap 23 – Elina

Elina has always been in charge of the industries that Albert will own in the future.

She sleeps very poorly and rarely sees Albert to make industries successful.

Today will be one of her rare opportunities to get closer to him. She'll have to sleep a lot more than usual tonight!

She can't wait to see Albert.

As soon as the sun came up, Elina got ready. Today was an important meeting between herself and Albert.

The first thing on her list would be getting dressed properly: dressing up like royalty meant wearing clothes made by noble tailors, which were far from cheap. The cost could easily amount to tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of gold coins; it's not something you'd buy if money wasn't no object.

"I'm so happy I finally got my hands on some new outfits," Elina said while admiring the dresses hanging neatly in their closet. "My old ones are all worn out."

She bought a dress specifically for this occasion, right after the journal meeting. It had beautiful lace embroidery around its neckline and sleeves but still managed to remain modest enough without being too flashy—a perfect balance.

After getting dressed, she went straight to Albert's house.

She was supposed to give the report to Reize before she met with Albert.

Reize was the family's trusted maid.

She was waiting for her in a house near Albert's.

It was in this house that Reize stayed when she was planning hers business. This way, she wouldn't need to worry about running into any trouble at home during work hours.

When she knocked on the door, there was no answer. But then, suddenly, the door opened.

"Oh... You're here!" Reize exclaimed in surprise.

Her face looked flushed because she must have just woken up.

"Yes. Sorry to bother you early..." Elina apologized awkwardly.

"...No, please come inside," Reize said, stepping aside to let her enter. "You've gotten much prettier since we last met, Elina."

That compliment took Elina aback. "...Thank you?"

"Hahaha, don't mind me," Reize laughed lightly. Then she turned serious again. "Well anyway, what do you want? Is it the report already?"

Elina handed over the document containing the results of the investigation to Reize.

"What?! There's only five pages?!" Reize gasped. "Didn't they tell us it was going to take longer than that...? Wait, how did you manage that!?"

"We didn't really investigate anything," Elina explained. "Elena tried to use the 'Magic Hand' spell on everyone who seemed suspicious. That's why it was short."

Elena was responsible for interrogating the prisoners.

Being passed over by the maids was something that hurt her, but she understood why.

Despite both having no experience in torture, Elena was far more cold-blooded than she was. And she knew exactly where to hit them to make sure they spilled everything.

Even though she hadn't actually done any real investigating, Elena still felt proud of herself.

"How long do you think this journal will turn a profit?" Reize asked.

"In a year."

Reize blinked several times in confusion. "Huh? What does that mean?"

"The return should be within a year if we invest now."

Elina hurried to Albert's house before he left for school.

Albert had already finished breakfast when she arrived.

He wore his uniform and stood next to the window, looking outside.

"Hello mister Albert," Elina couldn't contain her joy at finally being able to speak to Albert.

"Hey there," Albert greeted back, turning toward her. He smiled.

His smile immediately warmed her heart.

"Good morning."

"Morning."

They exchanged pleasantries.

"So, um, I brought the report."

"Oh yeah?" Albert replied, smiling brightly. "My parents aren't home, so you can leave it with Amanda. She's on her way."

Damn, I started with a boring subject, thought Elina.

She wanted to talk about something else instead.

"Mmhm, I heard you fought, right?"

Albert froze upon hearing that. His expression changed instantly from cheerful to worried, almost as if he remembered something bad happening.

Another boring subject, she thought again.

"It was just to defend Elysia," he explained.

Elina sighed deeply.She thought Albert was like all men and liked to gossip about himself.

But apparently, he was different.

"Umm, sorry for bringing such an embarrassing topic up," she apologized.

Albert shook his head. "Don't apologize!"

"Come on Albert, I don't want to be late." A voice came from the hall.

It was Elly, Elysia, and Amanda.

Elina was jealous of them for studying with Albert.

If only she were a few years younger...

"Okay, I'll be off then," Elina said, heading out of the house.

I'm gonna try talking about something fun next time! She promised herself.
