Chapter 30: Chap 30 – Don’t dare threaten my son

The news that the test forest had been attacked eventually reached Albert's mother, Alessa.
She realized this as she was buried under a stack of papers to sign, and she fled as soon as she did.

Alessa was so fast that not even the director could catch up to her.

He called out to her several times while running, but she ignored him until he finally gave up.

Alessa was accosted by an army of men in bizarre garb as soon as she stepped outside the city.

A man who appeared to be the leader stepped forward and announced, "So this is the mighty Alessa." He then pointed at her.

"And who would you be?" Alessa, trying to maintain her composure, said

If she lost control, nothing good would come of it.

"Pergia, general of the army of gluttony," he proclaimed with a swagger. "We intend to murder you."

"I'm sorry to have to let you down, but right now the life of my son is in jeopardy."

"We dispatched an assassin to take care of him, so he's probably already dead!" Pergia yelled back angrily.

When Alessa heard those words, her expression changed drastically.

"How dare you say such things! I'll be going to put a stop to this madness, right here, right now."

For a mother, her child is the most important thing in her life.

Even her husband didn't have the same worth. Her priority was always her son.

Alessa was willing to do anything to protect him—even kill others.

"Get ready for battle," Pergia told the soldiers. "It'll only be a matter of time before we destroy this monster."

As they prepared themselves to fight, Alessa began thinking about how to defeat them. She considered using magic against their thick armor or perhaps taking advantage of her speed.

Alessa was the best person on the continent at using ice and water.

The only problem is how she would deal with an army of that size alone. Even if she can freeze all these men, there are still many more waiting behind her.

The strategy that came to her mind was risky.

Deal with the commander as soon as possible and lower the morale of the rest of the army.

With a sigh, Alessa took action.

Her body became translucent like mist, allowing her to slip through the gaps between the soldiers without being noticed.

While doing so, she cast a spell. The air around her grew cold enough to make people shiver violently from the shock. It froze everything within reach, including the ground beneath.

After casting the spell, Alessa immediately turned invisible again, moving toward the center of the enemy formation where Pergia stood.

Pergia looked up to see what had caused the sudden chill, his eyes widening when he saw Alessa standing above him.

Alessa's use of ice and water magic was very effective. In addition, it also allowed her to move quickly across the battlefield. This made her one of the deadliest fighters on the continent.

Now that she was able to move freely among the troops, it wouldn't be long until she killed Pergia.

"You think you've won?!" Pergia shouted, jumping off the wall and landing directly on top of Alessa.

This wasn't a normal fall because it left no traces. Instead, he used magic to jump straight up into the air and land atop Alessa. His weight crushed her flat onto the frozen ground below.

Without warning, Alessa unleashed another powerful blast of icy wind, freezing the entire area around her.

Pergia was caught completely unaware of this attack. However, he managed to dodge it somehow.

His movement was quick, which meant he must have been well-trained. That explained why he'd avoided Alessa's earlier attacks.

"Impressive..." Pergia muttered.

However, just as he thought that he suddenly felt something heavy drop onto him.

Before he knew it, he was lying face down on the floor.

That was when Alessa kicked him in the stomach hard enough to send him flying backward.

Fearful, Pergia attempted to flee, but Alessa's magic held him back.

"Can you believe you can come here and threaten my son and get away unscathed?" A pillar of ice, wielded by Alessa, pierced Pergia's flesh.

As a result, a few brave soldiers decided to attack it to protect Pergia, only to perish in the process.

Alessa then turned to look at Pergia, whose life force had nearly disappeared.

She raised her staff high over his head. Then, with a flick of its tip, she sent him tumbling to the side.

The Pergia's head was severed from the rest of the body in a clean, quick cut.

Their commander was dead, so they were sure Alessa could finish them next. They wanted to escape while there was still hope.

But unfortunately, none of the soldiers moved fast enough.

They were too scared to run.

"Congratulations, Alessa, you're as cruel as ever," a voice said from among the dead. "I see that I underestimated you."
