From afar, Malcolm made his way up to their small wooden house, and at his side was Joshua, the oldest son, who already had a mocking face when looking at Henry, as if he was saying, 'I was the one who went hunting, not you!'.

Henry could not care less as he greeted his father with a bright smile, ignoring his brother entirely.

Malcolm noticed that behavior but did not say anything.

"Hello, father. How was the hunting?"

"Pretty good. Your brother caught a few rabbits while I got ourselves this!" Malcolm said as he showed the body of a wolf.

It was not an ordinary wolf but a magical beast. The beast suddenly appeared during their hunting trip, and Malcolm, the strongest in the village, stepped up and killed it.

Something clicked inside him when Henry placed his eyes on that wolf. It was as if the strange system had finally found a power source.

He noticed how his father was excited and proud of himself for catching that wolf, which meant it was no ordinary wolf. Henry quickly realized that.

"This is a world of magic, so could this be a magical beast?" Henry thought.

Joshua went inside the house, following closely behind his father with the proud gaze of someone who caught up a few rabbits. He passed close to Henry and whispered, "you'll never be better than me."

A childish act made Henry think about what had happened to that kid to feel that way: their parents weren't bad and raised them with proper care, yet Joshua had a deep hatred toward Henry.

"Does he feels that way to other kids of this village or just me? I don't remember doing anything to him, that is."

Henry did not know that Joshua had been the favorite kid, but after Henry came into the world, their parents took more care of Henry, as he was the youngest of the family.

It enraged Joshua, which turned into fuel and motivation. He wanted to become better than Henry so that no matter what happened, their parents would make him their favorite.

Henry thought the mentality was messed up, and he truly hoped his brother would change with the years to come.

"Perhaps if I get stronger than him and kick his ass, will he stop with this strange behavior?"

These were just wild thoughts, and what was important at that moment was to help his father with the cooking. Malcolm did not teach him how to fight yet, but he did teach him a little about hunting, as it was one of the jobs Henry would take when older.

So, Henry knew how to cut and separate meat from tendons and the rest of a beast's valuable parts. Even more, now that he got his memories, Henry's father back on Earth was a butcher who taught him many things.

"You are impressive, son," Malcolm said.

Joshua was not that far from where they were, and when he heard that, a grim formed on his face. He was the one who caught the rabbits, so why was father praising Henry instead?

With a butchering knife in his hands, Henry took care of the rabbits. Clean cuts with tons of mastery are not usual for a seven-year-old kid.

"This world is weird. They don't feel it is strange for kids to butcher animals."

The truth was that everything was different in that world. Kids grew their mentality faster, as no matter the age, no matter the place, magical beasts lurked around, trying to eat you alive.

For that reason, most parents tried their best to teach their kids how the world worked and how power was vital if one wanted to survive.

Still, not everyone had the talent to reach true power. Everyone could train to learn how to wield weapons and fight, but few had the talent to practice the breathing techniques of knights, and even fewer people could reach the realm of a grand knight.

If one spoke about talent for magic, then the situation was even worse. Only a few people had the talent to become acolytes, and even fewer could turn into official mages.

Malcolm, Henry's father, was a grand knight. Not as rare as acolytes or official mages, but he was not someone weak, and he hoped that his sons had the talent to at least reach the grand knight rank.

Henry still did not know about these things, but he did know that he had a mysterious system, and presumably, no one else in that world had something like it.

It was his triumph card to reach an unimaginable realm of power and live up to his fantasies of roaming around the world flying a dragon.

"I will let you clean up the rabbits while I care for the wolf. If you need anything, son, call me," Malcolm said.

With a nod, Henry kept doing what he was doing, ripping off the skin of those rabbits. Even Joshua, who was not that far, had the urge to throw up after witnessing the scene.

"It seems you are not as tough as you think, brother," Henry said.

Only the two of them were close to each other, as their parents were together cleaning the wolf somewhat far from where they were.

Henry also whispered, so there was no chance of their parents hearing anything.

"You are so proud because you took care of a few rabbits? I want to see how you stand out in training this afternoon with dad." Joshua said.

"Well, it should not need that much to be better than you."

"YOU!"

Joshua was red with anger but held himself and did not start a fight with his brother. He wanted to wait until the right opportunity appeared for him.

After one hour of preparation, the lunch was made, and the wolf meat could still feed them for a week.

Malcolm only took a small piece of it, enough for the family to see what it tasted like. The rabbits' Henry cleaned up turned into a stew, which was their delicious lunch.

"All right, let's eat," Malcolm said.

They all sat around a wooden table, and Henry's first victim was the wolf meat, which he guessed was from a magical beast.

The moment the meat touched his tongue and entered his stomach, a fire sensation grew within his body. Not only that but pleasure?

Henry could not tell exactly how he felt, but a notification appeared right in front of him, and he was the only one who could see it.

[Evolving System Unlocked]

[Wolf Meat +15 EXP]

He ate until another notification popped up, saying he had leveled up and unlocked his stats screen.

"Let me see this."

[Henry Lionheart]

[Level: 2]

[Exp: 0/100]

[Attributes:

[Strength: 1]

[Dexterity: 1]

[Vigor: 1]

[Wisdom: 1]

[Spiritual Force: 0]

[Free points: 5]

The status screen was similar to one of an RPG, but it did not show HP and MP bars.

"This is not a game, but real life after all."

With just a glance, Henry understood what most attributes did, but there was one that he could not put his free points into, no matter what he tried.

"Spiritual Force? I bet this has something to do with acolytes and mages."

Strength, dexterity, and vigor focused more on the body, while wisdom increased the rate of learning spells and the amount of spiritual force one could gather while meditating.

Now, the spiritual force could not be directly increased using the free points, but considering that wisdom had a direct effect, putting points in it would help improve the spiritual force.

"Huh? What is this?"

While Henry was delighted to see his newly acquired power, another notification popped up, and one that made him happier.

[Wolf meat absorbed]

[New skill unlocked: Keen Senses]

"This is… he he he."
