Aurora sat in bed with her legs crossed, with paper and ink in her lap. She gathered her thoughts about what happened a few days ago and put them into words as she wrote a letter to Lucius.
She mentioned the black blood and the strange energy without saying anything about how Lillian tried to kill her.
“…Isn’t it time I admit it? I care about him more than I thought.” Even after living for more than thirty years, to think she can’t even bring herself to acknowledge her feelings. If she did not like him in the first place, she wouldn't have cared about hurting him after all. And would not have slept with him.
Still, it did not change a single thing. Admitting her feelings for him was one thing but acting on it was another. She didn't know if she had it in her to take any further.
Putting that aside, Aurora also mentioned her suspicions about Elliot Ingsen and the Headmaster. When Professor Ingsen checked her injuries that time, she was sure she felt mana in its raw form. Which meant he did not use his sigil.
Aurora’s brows scrunched. ‘What was going on? Is he a Witch? And was he and the Headmaster already aware of Lillian being the murderer?’
As for Lillian Lancaster, she was treated at the infirmary. But it was a treatment that did not help with the pain. The reason had to do with her arm not healing despite using a healing rune.
The infirmary at the academy was home to both a priest and doctor. The doctor treated minor illnesses while the Priest was there for emergency purposes.
Unfortunately, the reason for Lillian’s pain in her arm was not due to her breaking it but due to a rare poison that would leave her system after 48 hours.
Where did the poison come from, you ask?
It happened when Dame Beatrice disappeared right after Aurora attended classes on the first day.
William Jeune. Besides coming from a family that served the Imperial Family as personal Knights, the Jeune family also specialized in finding, collecting, and processing rare herbs for medical purposes. But what most did not know was that they administered poisonous herbs to the heir of the Emperor at a young age to gain immunity to all kinds of poisons.
Because a thousand years passed since then, Aurora wasn’t sure if it would still be the same since a member of the Jeune family was here in the North instead of the Imperial City.
Who would have guessed that her gamble would pay off and that the Jeune family was still proficient in finding rare herbs a thousand years later?
“Here you go, my Lady. Sorry, I’m late. It took a while to find.” Beatrice gave Aurora a vial with white liquid inside. “The herb is called the eight-petal snowdrop dew. It is a white flower that has eight petals. It grows at a high altitude in the snowy mountains, and because it only reaches five inches tall, it's difficult to find due to being buried under the snow.”

Aurora held the vial carefully as she looked at it. “And what are the effects?”
“If ingested directly, it will slowly freeze your blood and kill you when it reaches your heart. The liquid is odorless and cannot be detected even by magic. But if you smear a drop of it on skin or your weapon, it will cause a chilling pain for two to three days and obstruct any form of healing. And if you use it on, let's say, a beast, it will not work at all.”
Aurora glanced at Beatrice. Seeing the grin on the Knight’s face, Aurora knew that Beatrice was aware of what she was planning.
“Is that so?”
Aurora as the Crown Princess of the Epheria Empire would have ignored whatever ill feelings others held for her. Be it insults or killing intent, as the only Princess of the Empire, she believed it was only apparent that she suppressed her emotions and lived with her eyes and mouth closed.
As the other Nobles wanted to use her mother, a powerful Witch, as a weapon to strike their enemies, they found it an eyesore that the future Emperor protected her. Aurora thought that if she caused trouble for her parents at that time, it would give them a reason to pressure her father.
However, it was only right for one to change after experiencing death.
When Aurora was young, she remembers reading a book titled "Law of Divinity" that listed the laws and beliefs of various deities.
The ‘Law of Peace and Order’ said, “If one brings a knife to stab you, do not stab back.” It was the belief that for one to keep order, one must be of order and not seek vengeance for the sake of keeping the peace.
And then there was the ‘Law of Justice and Retribution’ that made an impression on the young Aurora. “If thou giveth a gift for gift, warmth for warmth and love for love, then thou shall also follow the principle of skin for skin, blood for blood and life for life.”
To put it in simple words, give to others what they give you.
Aurora narrowed her eyes as she thought back to when she coated her arrows with the white liquid.
“Well, it’s not like it will kill her.”
'She should have thought about the consequences for aiming her bow at me.'
