“What?” Ethan raised his head in surprise and looked at the shadow Knight through the communication rune. “One, are you sure?”
“Yes.” He answered, slightly annoyed that the Duke would doubt him, but he still answered respectfully. “Lucius Rizar left his mansion with a beautiful young lady by his side. I saw this myself. It seems like they are heading to the Temple in the City.”
“Have you investigated her?”
“Only that she’s been living there for around two months now. The servants there are either very tight-lipped or know nothing at all about her.” It’s been two weeks since the shadow Knight entered the Rizar territory. He was able to question two maids and a servant boy after ‘coincidentally’ meeting them in the City.
One was very confident in himself. Although he was given this dull name due to the Duke’s lack of motivation when naming his subordinates, he didn’t let that get to him. Including his skills in archery and poison, being able to charm both men and women was his specialty.
His appearance wasn't what you would call handsome, but rather it gave others the feeling of comfort and made them relax around him. When he smiled, no common person would be able to resist answering his questions. All he had to do was get them to drink a little more than their usual, and they'd start spilling things on their own.
He was long aware of the young lady’s existence, but since he didn't have much information about her, One didn't report her existence to the Duke until now. The two maids and servant boy only said that she appeared out of nowhere around two months ago. They spilled how Lucius Rizar seemed to treat her differently than the other woman he's been with so far.
“Keep looking into her.”
The shadow Knight nodded his head. “Also, it seems he left without any of his Knights or his swords. Do you want me to take this chance to kill him?”
Without his Knights? And no weapons?
Duke Blaise pondered about this. He then shook his head. Even if he didn’t have his Knights there to protect him, Lucius himself was strong enough to take on hundreds. What can one shadow Knight do to hurt him?
But…that little girl…
While fighting off his attackers…even he would find it difficult to protect a brat who didn’t know how to do anything. Especially since he dared to leave the precious gold sword the Emperor personally gifted him after his coming of age ceremony when he turned 16 years old.
“No. Instead, hire some people to attack them on their way back from the Temple and blend in with them. Don't let him find out your identity. Bring that girl to me alive.”
...Well, that man probably already figured out his identity from the poison he used earlier. He probably shouldn't tell the Duke about his hasty surprise attack.
One nodded his head.
When the Duke finished and disconnected the rune, the shadow Knight sat in his bed as he thought back to that little girl. Did his Master intend on using that girl against the Duke?
But would that work on someone with no human emotions?
The Rizar’s bloodline is overwhelmingly superior than the other noble families. It’s said to be equal to that of the Imperial Family itself. And due to their superior bloodline, the energy they gave off made people instinctively fear and avoid getting too close to them.
Be it due to karma or a curse, none from the Rizar’s direct bloodline is said to have any emotions. Although the cause of this isn’t exactly known, sadness, happiness, anger...none has ever seen them show such emotions before.
So, would Lucius Rizar care if one single girl died in front of him? To someone who didn’t show mercy to either women or children, even if she was a family member, would he even care?
There’s no way his Master wasn’t aware of this. Then, what was he thinking when he told One to kidnap that girl? Either way, it didn’t matter to him. As a shadow, he only does what he’s ordered to.
That girl…
No, when it came to that voluptuous body of hers, she was no longer considered a girl, huh? She was a full-fledged woman waiting to be plucked.
With a vulgar expression, One licked his lips in desire as he imagined her pressed beneath him.
Duke Blaise only said to bring her to him alive, right?

Elran City, although it was either snowing or cold all year long, was filled with people bustling and laughter. It wasn’t as gloomy as one would think it would be.
After the attack from earlier, Aurora was tense during the whole way. She kept thinking the arrow was a prelude for what was to come. A sort of warning of sorts. But nothing happened.
The moment they entered the main street of the City, she forgot about her fears and watched the bustling street with interest.
The main street was filled with vendors and shops. A faint metallic smell wafted through the air, as a distant bagging sound came inside from some of the stores with a blacksmith sign hanging on the doors. Although the snow had melted, everyone was so lively, and everything was so bright. She heard from the twin maids about how Prayer Day was today. Because of this, things would be even more joyous during the festival held at night.
Who knew that even after hundreds of years the Epheria religion hadn’t changed at all?
Lucius silently observed the side of Aurora’s profile as she stared in awe at the passing people. Now that he thinks about it, she hadn’t yet once gone out to the City.
As she watched the passing carriages, she blinked her eyes in doubt. Some of the carriages didn’t have horses or coachmen at all…how exactly was it moving? Even back before the curse, she never saw this type of transportation.
“We’re here.”
Before Aurora could further observe her surroundings, Lucius called out.
It took them about two hours to get through the gathering crowds and carriages, within walking distance of their destination. Duke Rizar informed the coachman to return in the evening at this same spot. The two blended into the crowd and made their way to the front of the Temple.
When Aurora stopped walking, Lucius also stopped. The people ignored the two and walked by.
He saw her struggle to move forward. She’d raise her leg, preparing to take a step but then she’d suddenly put it back down and sigh. She then grabbed her head with both hands as though panic-stricken and started to tremble.
'??? What is she doing??'
He felt her fear as she used both hands to clench and her dress and looked up. When he traced her sight to the building in front of them.
“Are you afraid?”
When he asked her that, Aurora flinched.
Right. He should have thought about it before. If what she told him was the truth, then it was no wonder she was acting this way.
The Holy Temple was once a religion that persecuted Witches. Due to the deity they worshipped, they strongly believed in harmony. And Witches who were born with an abnormal amount of mana were abominations that broke that balance. Thus, they were labeled as evil beings that needed to be purged.
No matter how much she tries to be indifferent, even she would find it difficult to calm herself in this situation. Just how much courage did she have to gather to come to this place? If it was him, would he be able to face the people that once hated him? That once tried to kill him? That's right, like that person.
Without warning, Lucius slid his hand over hers. The coldness of his touch made her shudder, but she didn’t push him away.
“If you want to leave, we can.”
Leave? She shook her head no. There’s no way she would after coming this far.
“Is that so?” He knew his statement would instead motivate her.
While still holding on to her hand, he led her inside.
