Priest Mikhail paced back and forth as he kept swearing.

“Will, you, or will you not tell us her affinity?” Lucius asked impatiently. If he wasn’t in the Holy Temple, he would have surely beaten this man half-dead already.

Mikhail stopped pacing and stared at Aurora with scrutiny. “How can such a result come out from a small body?”

Aurora’s lips twitched. ‘That’s called sexual harassment, old man!’ She wanted to say…but she restrained herself.

The Priest glanced at Duke Rizar. “Exceptional affinity for light. And…” He quivered as he said the last part. “Superior affinity for fire and darkness. She is a triple attribute holder.”

Oh.

No wonder he was acting like that…

The High Priest’s words echoed in her ears.

“Superior affinity for darkness.”

Why darkness? Why did it have to be the very same element her Mother specialized in?

No, it wasn’t only that.

Even light...

And then there was fire. When comparing the current system from the past, Aurora used to only have an average affinity for fire. Even though it turned out to be useless in the end, the attribute of her mana was only fire. That means she jumped two levels...but she didn't feel anything different when she entered the Corrupted Region.

"What is a triple attribute holder?" Aurora asked the High Priest. There was no use thinking about what is. It was best to understand her current situation.

"You do know how a person's mana attribute is the element they have the highest affinity to, right?"

Aurora nodded her head.

"Those who have two elements with exceptional or higher affinity are called dual attribute holders. And those with three are triple attribute holder. But...well...this is a very rare occurrence." Mikhail rubbed his forehead. A rare occurrence, indeed. In history, there were only 19 people who held the dual attribute title. And as for the triple attribute holder..."

There was only one.

"I see." Aurora thought about what could have caused her affinity to change so much.

Unlike the color of a mana core, affinity with the eight elements can change. But this change didn’t come easily. Their perception and insight of the element would have to make a qualitative leap to show any kind of change. To obtain an opportunity to increase their connection with an element would take changing a dangerous situation into a lucky chance. For example, being submerged underwater for a long time from drowning.

Her eyes widened when she thought of something. "I see." She whispered.

She doesn't know how the light affinity came to be but...being burned alive by one of the four heavenly beasts...floating in that neverending abyss where there was only darkness...even though her time in the abyss was still a little vague...it was the cuase of the change in her mana core.

Ahhh...so that was it.

That darkness that ate away at her soul and her very being, that very same darkness that drowned her Mother in sins, was it going to take away all that was left her? Was she once again going to stop being her?

She didn't want that.

It scared her.

The Duke stared at Aurora who was in deep thought while shivering uncontrollably. He opened his mouth and then closed it. When seeing her turn pale, he opened his mouth again. “The eight elements are neither good nor evil. Everything depends on the user.”

"Hmm?" High Priest Mikhail stepped towards Aurora. “Of course, the elements do not have such characteristics. Nor conscience. The elements simply describe the state in nature. Like how mana is connected to the elements, spirits are born from mana and the elements.” Mikhail held up a finger as he explained. “A knife can be used to cut a piece of fruit, or it can be used to cut a person. Now, does that make the knife good or evil? How it is used depends on what influence it has on the person who uses it.”

A knife…?

But she…has already long used a knife to take a person’s life.

Then what does that make her?

The Priest patted Aurora’s head when he saw she was still depressed. “Don’t think too deeply about it. In the end, it’s up to you to use it or not. I’ll tell you a secret that only me and one other person knows.” He leaned down to her ear and whispered.

When seeing the intimacy between the two, Lucius found it unpleasant. He frowned at the High Priest’s hand that was on her head. He found himself wanting to chop that very hand off.

After Aurora heard what Mikhail told her, she burst out laughing. Her gloomy thoughts from earlier disappeared in a puff of smoke. “Really?”

Mikhail grinned. “It’s true. Ask Abel when you see him next time.”

Her smile wasn’t forced or fake. Although he couldn’t see her face, he could feel her true delight from the High Priest’s words. This woman who was usually indifferent in front of him was sincerely laughing.

And it had nothing to do with him.

Lucius narrowed his eyes dangerously and said with a menacing tone of voice. “We’re wasting time. Abel should have told you our true purpose here today, right?”

Mikhail glared at Lucius. “Tsk.” He clicked his tongue in contempt. “How rude. Calling him by his name.” The High Priest crossed his arms, and without bothering about the Duke again he turned to Aurora with a smile on his face. "Shall we head over to the Library?”

“...Um, what relationship do you have with High Priest Abel?” Aurora asked. From his tone earlier, she picked up his deep respect for Abel.

"He's my foster father." There was a sense of sadness as he said that. "If it wasn't for him, I would have lost my life due to starvation."

The High Priest didn't say anything. Aurora also didn't ask. It seems like there was more to his story but it wasn't appropriate for her to go digging when she met him for the first time today. As a former member of the Imperial Family, she was well aware of where to draw the line.

However, she now understood why Mikhail didn’t like the Duke. Lucius didn't treat Abel based on his status as the Cardinal's son.

And this was what caused the Priest to despise Lucius.
