Aurora, Lucius and the High Priest headed towards the Temple’s library. After leaving through the backdoor, they entered the courtyard. From there they entered another building, which was connected to the Library. Mikhail put his palm over a rune inscription on the door.

When it activated, the door opened on their own and they walked inside.

It was a vast Library with rows of shelves and special glass stands meant to protect certain books. Other than that, there wasn't anything unexpected or surprising. Aurora thought that since it was protected behind a large door with a rune, and belongs to the Temple, there would be some outstanding secret. For such a large area, it didn’t seem like there was anyone else inside besides them.

“Please sit here until I return with the book you’ve requested for.”

Lucius and Aurora sat down at a table, with the Duke sitting from across her.

Mikhail returned with a large brown leather book in his hand. The book had metal brads on both sides and a lock that required a key to open. It didn’t take long for the Priest to return.

“This is the book you’ve requested. It contains all records about the Black Witch. Usually, only nobles are allowed to read this but seeing as you’ve received special permission from High Priest Abel, I’ll pretend this conversation never happened. If High Priest Abel trust you, then you have my trust as well, Young Lady.”

“Thank you.”

“If you want to unlock this, you'll need to place your hand on they key and activate your rune. If someone other than the one who unlocked it tries to read the contents inside, they will only see blank pages."

“I don’t have a rune.” Don’t tell her she plucked up the courage to enter the Temple for no reason? Although she did find out about her affinity changing, that wasn’t what she wanted.

High Priest Mikhail nodded. “I’ve heard. There is a way to bypass this rule, but it might offend the Young Lady’s honor as you’ll have to hold hands with me.”

In this world, power and talent was everything. Be it male or female, either one has the right to achieve a noble status and become the Head of their household. There were even many respected female Knights. Even though it was slightly different from a thousand years ago where status was more important, there was one thing Aurora noticed hadn't changed at all.

The ‘etiquette between men and women’.

This was a set of rules in High Society where the distance between men and women who are not siblings, engaged, or married must be kept. It is to ‘respect’ a woman’s honor. This meant that any form of skin contact unless it was an emergency was not allowed.

“It doesn’t affect me at all.” Honor? Pride? What use were those superfluous things with no form? Besides, she lost such things the day she lost her home and she no longer had a place to return to.

Now that she thinks about it, she and Lucius already long broke the rules of ‘etiquette between men and women’.

“Stop.” A deep voice coming from across her said. “It should work the same way with me as well, right? So I'll be the one to do it.”

Mikhail, who was about to sit next to her, awkwardly froze in midair.

Aurora blinked her eyes.

Although Lucius’ voice was as unfriendly as always, why did it seem as if he was angry?

Aurora felt something strange from the book. She turned her attention away from Lucius and observed it. She had an odd, yet familiar feeling. "This book..." She placed her hand on the cover as she asked the Priest. “How many spells were used to record the information in this book? When was it recorded? Were any spells used to make the book?”

“Yes? Well...” Mikhail was interested in why she asked that. “Only the memory spell was used. The person who used this spell to record the Black Witch’s information was someone from the royal family. Only the Cardinal knows who that person is. As for the date, it's said to be around 15 years after her death.” The High Priest paused and looked at the book. “As for the book itself, no type of magic was used to make it. However, the lock is a special tool that only be unlocked using Rune Magic.”

Only the memory spell? This type of magic was a psychic type of magic and had nothing to do with the elements. Not many can use this type of magic, as it mostly came from Witches who awaken a perception type ability. Then that means it was a Witch who was royalty, like her. And if it was 15 years after her Mother's death...then, was it recorded after she died?

Aurora clearly felt two distinct types of magic coming from the book. She couldn’t exactly pinpoint what type of spell the second one was since it was so faint, but it felt as if she knew it.

More importantly, why hasn't anyone else sensed it until now?

“Is this the original book?”

He shook his head. “All original books are kept at the Grand Temple in the Imperial City where the Cardinal presides. Even so, there’s no need to worry as this is an exact copy of the original.”

“I understand.” Aurora didn’t say anything more about this. She thought it would just further complicate things. For now, it was best to keep it to herself. Maybe she’d be able to confirm her suspicions when she sees the original.

Lucius and the High Priest changed seats. Because Lucius needed to have his hand touch the book even after unlocking it, he had to sit next to her.

Having such a handsome young man sitting next to them, any girl her age would have found themselves flustered, with their cheeks turning into a peach color. But for Aurora, whose true age was 30, she was used to it.

“What are you waiting for?” Lucius said as he waited with his hand held out towards her.

Aurora still held a strong disgust for Nobles, but...

She placed her hand in his, and the moment their skin made contact she felt her pulse quicken. It wasn’t as cold as it was that night. Instead, it felt a little cooling.

It felt nice to touch.
