Refusing to give up, Gaius continued to pester her.
“If you cooperate, I promise to tell you everything I know about Witches!”
Aurora frowned and slapped his hand away.
She's had enough!
“Lucius already told you, yes?”
The Duke thought it was best if very few were aware of her Witch identity. There were already enough who knows the truth. That is why he also warned the blacksmith not to dig around about her past.
“…Tsk.” Gaius ruffled his hair and looked at her, unwilling to admit defeat. “Fine, I’ll let it go for now.”
“Why are you so interested in Witches in the first place? You no longer work with the institute.”
Gaius avoided her eyes and turned his head to the side, but not before she saw the faint blush of red on his cheeks. “A hobby.”
Oh?
Aurora's lips slightly lifted into a smile.
That's the expression of a man in love. This foolish man in front of her doesn't even realize it himself.
And the only other Witch that exists right now is the Saintess of the Imperial City Holy Temple, who is said to be an immortal.

With her eyes closed, Aurora stood in the middle of the room as she concentrated on sending her mana to her sigil. She focused on the white squared paper with two runes drawn on it. She felt her sigil make contact with the rune, and her mana run through it.
In the next second, a spherical light surrounded her.
Gaius rubbed his chin in excitement when he saw it. 'To think she can do it after I showed it to her only once.'
Light shield.
An aura shield is a shield that uses a person’s mana without any of the elements embedded in it. The durability of the shield depends on the mana used to make it.
Before she attempted to make a shield, Gaius showed his earth shield. While his attribute was earth, he didn't really use his sigil too much, since he'd rather focus on making weapons.
Lucius’ aura shield is usually strong enough to block any physical attacks. Unlike the others, he does not need to use a rune to activate it. That is why only powerful objects, like Regalias, can pierce his shield.
The Duke can also use another type of shield specially created by him.
Ice shield.
Shields embedded with an element can both block and deflect all physical and magic attacks. This advanced shield is useful when protecting a group from a powerful attack.
While Lucius does not need a rune to use the aura shield, he needs one when using one embedded with an element, or he will risk long control of himself.
Since Aurora has a sigil now, she can also use both types of shields. But what confounded Gaius was how she could not use the advanced light shield without using a rune despite being able to do so with the aura shield.
The Duke's curse restricted him from doing so, but as a Witch, she shouldn't even need to use runes altogether.
The Black Witch's curse only affected humans. Witches who have not gone through their 2nd awakening yet should be able to use magic freely. It's only afterwards they lose their ability to communicate with Spirits, this effecting their use of Spirit Magic.

Aurora, who is only 15 years old, shouldn't have had her 2nd awakening as well.
Like how the Saintess at the Holy Temple used to be.
When the blacksmith asked Lucius about this, he said it was to prepare Aurora for after she has her awakening, that it wasn't convenient for her without a sigil when everything works with runes.
Gaius frowned in annoyance as thought deeply about the reason. What else can restrict Aurora from using magic without runes?
Can it be...a contract?
But what sort of contract limits her mana?
Sighs.
There's no way for him to figure it out right now.
He glanced at Aurora, who still had her light shield up with ease even though it's already been three minutes.
Now…
“Very nice. But…!” Gaius picked up an axe from the wall, and while running towards her with the intention to attack, he said with a smirk on his face. “Let me test it…!”
Aurora didn’t react the way he thought she would. She stood there blankly, without moving.
The moment the axe made contact with her shield, the handle broke into pieces, and the axe flew across the room, hitting the wall. Because of the rune protection, it didn't damage the wall, and the axe bounced off, flying towards Gaius.
“Whoa!” Gaius ducked, and the axe fell on the floor. He speechlessly stared at the axe and the broken pieces of the handle. “Hahahahaahaha! Well done!!”
Aurora pressed her lips together. What's there to be so excited about? “___”
Just as she lost focus, the shield around her expanded without warning and pushed Gaius back, catching him off guard. He fell on one knee and raised his arms in defense. Seeing this, Aurora quickly cut her mana connection with her sigil.
“Are you okay?” Aurora walked towards him with a worried expression.
Gaius stood up and brushed off his pants. His long blue hair that he tied back came loose, becoming even more tangled. “Whew. We need to make sure you learn how to control the amount of mana you supply your sigil so that an explosion like earlier doesn’t occur.”
Aurora lowered her head. 'What's going on?'
Ever since she was little, her parents and instructors praised her excellent control over her mana. She was always sensitive to mana and magic, being able to manipulate it freely. Attack type magic was her weakness, while those used for defense were her strengths.
That day, after she tested her affinity for the elements at the Holy Temple, Lucius did tell her about how being summoned as a Familiar sealed part of her mana, causing her only to be able to use basic magic. And how with a sigil, that seal might be slightly loosened. To her, who can not use attack spells, it didn't make a difference if her mana was limited.
But…what was this feeling?
It was different.
Since receiving her sigil, it felt as though an electric current was running throughout her body.
It was as though her blood was boiling.
She couldn't bring herself to settle down at all.
