“Ahem, ahem." The blacksmith coughed as though he was trying to clear the awkward atmosphere. "It is a shame you aren’t suited for using attack runes, but defense runes like these are very useful.”
Aurora pursed her mouth as she tried to keep herself from laughing. 'Was that his way of trying to comfort her?' While she was disappointed at first, she didn't hold a high expectation of being able to use any type of attack spells.
But the truth was, internally, Gaius was crying his heart out in regret! 'It's truly a shame!' He thought inwardly.
Despite her having a black mana core, for some reason, she can not use any offensive spells. Earlier, Gaius tried to teach her how to use light and fire attack spells, but nothing worked. She told him it was always like this for her.
Why? Why? He doesn't get it!
All mana users are different. Some are weak in offensive spells while more proficient with defensive spells. Still, this was his first time meeting someone who could not use it all!
That's why when he taught her how to use a light shield, he didn't think she would pull it off right away. But she did! And not to mention, it was stronger than he expected.
There was just something strange about her mana. He thought that the moment she used the light shield. Her mana was the complete opposite of Lucius'. It gave off a serene and clear feeling. A mana that isn't suited for fighting. How was that possible for a mana user with a high affinity for fire?
Well, nothing he can do about that now.
As for offensive abilities, if she can use a weapon to make up for it, then she should be fine.
Oh? Maybe this wasn't so bad?
What Gaius didn't know was, because of him, many Nobles in the future will suffer due to his role in creating the second 'Monster of the North'.

Thinking about what other runes Aurora can use in sync with her sigil, Gaius kept silent for a while.
Aurora patiently waited.
“You can use the fear and envelop runes based off the darkness element. The fear rune allows you to project the feeling of fear on others who have a weaker mental state than you. It'll make them only see you shrouded by darkness, and when meeting your eyes, they will see their darkest fears. I'd let you practice it now, but...I am stronger than you, so it won't work." He said proudly with a grin.
Aurora blinked her eyes.
Is that something to boast about when your opponent is only 15 years old?
Well, she is much older than that though.
"As for envelop, as the name suggests, allows you to envelop yourself in darkness. When you use your mana, you can slightly hide your presence, but like with the light shield, when you add an element it becomes stronger. The envelop rune completely hides your presence. And with your large amount of mana you can even manipulate it to hide the presence of others. When you get the hang of it, you can use the advanced version, 'gate' to travel in the dark realm."
Aurora stiffened, a sudden rush of dread washed over her.
Travel in the dark realm?
Was that not the same ability her Mother used? And that man she met in the cave...?
"I don't want to," she said, her voice shaky.
"What? Why?" Unable to believe his ears, the blacksmith asked. "The more mana you have, the farther you will be able to travel! It is no different than teleporting from one place to another. Many have tried to create a man-made rune for traveling long distances, but no one has ever succeeded since it falls in the 'space' attribute. But you want to pass on such an amazing thing? It can be a life-saving ability!"
Not only did she hate the thought of ending up like her Mother, but she hated not being able to see even more.
He wanted her to enter that dark place?
Aurora trembled as cold sweat ran down her back. "I just don't want to. Please do not bring it up again."
"Ugghhh" He ruffled his hair annoyed by how stubborn she was being, but he didn't want to push her ".......Alright, I'll do as you say." He didn't know why she was like that, but there must be a reason. Gaius didn't want to force it, so he talked about other runes. "But, at least try the envelop rune."
She nodded her head once.
"Okay. As for fire, since it is more of an attack based element, there really isn’t anything you can use so we'll put that on hold. As for light, besides the shield rune, you might be able to use..." Gaius glanced at her. “Healing.”
“Wasn't the healing rune created by the Holy Temple? Only Priests should have permission to use it, right?"

“Ah? Yes…that’s…Lucius stole…I mean, borrowed it from High Priest Abel…”
“…I think I heard something weird mixed in there…”
“No. Nope. It’s normal!" Gaius avoided her eyes. "Well, as long as you don't use it in public, it should be fine..."
Aurora raised an eyebrow.
...He stole it, didn’t he?
“Besides that…” Gaius, who was desperate to change the subject, picked up a light brown archery bow. “I heard you’re quite good with throwing knives. While I'm not in charge of your physical training, I'll help if you want to. I think you can eventually become a great archer. What do you think?”
Archery?
Aurora was a little interested in it.
But, would she have to give up the skill Isla taught her?
She didn’t want that.
Seeing her complicated gaze, Gaius grinned. “No need to give up knife throwing. While both are great long distance martial arts skills, you can use it at the same time based on your situation.”
If she was able to master archery, it would be advantageous for her when she succeeds in summoning spirit beasts. She will be able to protect herself just in case her opponent tried to attack her. The weakness of a summoner is clear to see. Once the summoner was harmed or killed, the summoned spirit beast will return to the Spirit Realm.
“I will try it.”
Gaius nodded his head in approval. “You’ll need to train your shoulder and upper-back muscles. This will also improve your knife-throwing skills. The better you master both skills, the farther your range. But, be warned...I won't go easy on you once we start."
Aurora didn't hesitate. She couldn't ask for more. "I don't mind. However...” Aurora looked around the training room. “From now on, training for my sigil will be in this room, while archery and strength training will be at the Knight's field.”
The blacksmith looked confused. Why did she want to train with the other Knights out in the cold when she has this warm room just for her use? “I don’t mind, but are you sure? Training out in this freezing weather isn’t easy.”
“It’s fine.”
The Rizar Family held great military power in the Empire. The Head of the household was almost always the Supreme Commander of the Imperial Army, the one with the highest rank, like Lucius currently is. The Supreme Commander can only be ordered by the Emperor, but even the Emperor didn't order him so easily unless it was completely necessary to do so.
That is why those under Lucius' command are of great importance.
From what Aurora learned, the highest ranked Knights in the Rizar Family, also held high ranks in the army.
Captain Raya held the rank of Lieutenant General.
Vice-Captain Sia held the rank of Captain.
Cain and Lyle both held the ranks for 1st Lieutenant.
While the Captain and Vice Captain were courteous towards her, she realized that the other Knights that guarded the mansion stared at her as though they were looking at prey.
They wanted to know what made her special to become their future Lady? Why did she deserve their protection? After all, gaining the protection of the Rizar Knights, was the same as gaining the protection of the entire Imperial Army.
Every single day, a second did not go by without several pairs of eyes observing her every movement.
Just like that time when she lived in the Palace.
She didn’t like it, and she didn’t have the patience to tolerate it this time.
That's why, Aurora knew that if she wanted to spend her days peacefully in this mansion, she will need to gain their obedience sooner or later.
Then...isn't it better to just show them?
