Without greeting either the Earl or the lady of the hour, not only did he show up late, he even purposely attended the banquet with such a gorgeous young lady.
The grating sounds of the ladies she invited to her birthday made Yulia clench her fists in anger. Her long nails pierced the palm of her hand, but she was too busy staring at the two openly flirting with each other to feel the sharp pain. Yulia’s eyes began to blaze fiercely as she glowered in jealousy at the young lady by Duke Rizar’s side.
The crowd didn’t bother making small talk with her anymore, as they were too distracted by the young lady’s beauty that made her seem otherworldly. The guests blushed as they watched the young lady make her entrance with the most sought after bachelor in the Empire.
"My goodness...."
"She's beautiful!"
With her hair tied up in a bun, with a few strands on both sides, her face was in full view. Her light brown hair gave off the reflection of a golden color from the lights in the hall.
What stood out the most is how her simple white and green dress adorned with flowers matched the color of her jeweled green eyes. Despite not wearing a single piece of ornament, her long neckline and legs gave her a mature look even though she was young.
But what annoyed Yulia Vel Nolbeia to no end was how this girl, who seems to be around the same age, shamelessly leaned her breasts against the Duke as she laughed. And how the Duke himself, who usually detest such displays of intimacy, was letting her do as she pleased. He even personally fed her snacks without showing any reluctance to do so.
“Who does she think she is? Getting so close to Lady Yulia’s future husband?” Molly, one of Yulia’s friends, said with anger.
“It is obvious she comes from a poor background. How can she go out wearing so little like commoners?” Helen said with disdain laced in her tone.
Those in high society always wore ornaments when going out. The only place that forbids this was the academy.
And such a light dress without any frills or decorations was usually frowned upon.
Still, the stunned expressions of the others as they saw her enter the reception hall, the young lady with the Duke was beautiful enough to pull off that simple style.
With her fan covering her mouth, Helen looked at Yulia. “What will you do?”
The four ladies were sitting at the head table, preparing for the final event of the banquet, dinner, and dessert.
Yulia put away her dark expression and smiled brightly. “Shall we invite her to sit with us?”
Helen did not appreciate the sound of that.
Just what was Yulia thinking? “Why should she sit with us?”
Griselda glanced at Helen. Even though Helen tried to hide her emotions, she was able to see through it. While lacking in many ways, Griselda was quite good at discerning the feelings of others. She had long ago seen through Helen.
Honestly, Helen was also interested in the Duke but never dared to voice her thoughts. Seeing as how her father worked at Anvilus as the Vice President, she could only reluctantly give up.
And yet, now some unknown little girl was getting close to the man Helen could only dream of taking as her husband. She refused to let this go.
Better Yulia than this slut!
Yulia put on a solemn expression and watched as the two were getting intimate, ignoring the etiquette between men and women. “That little girl is just a flower he wants to pick and will throw away as soon as he finishes plucking. To get what you want, sometimes it’s necessary to become friends with your enemy. She also needs to be taught that the high society in the north is not a place where just anyone can enter.”
Helen smiled with glee.
This small setback was not enough to deter Yulia’s determination to get what she wants. While she didn’t have any talent in blacksmith like her mother, she has an exceptional affinity for water. Yulia was the goddess in their school.
Molly and Helen, who both have average affinities, were considered far below her.
As for Griselda, she only had a low affinity for wind. Rumors spread that this was the cause of her current personality.

Yulia and the two ladies stood up. When Griselda didn’t have any intention of following at first, Yulia paused and looked back. Seeing her sharp look pointed towards her, Griselda could only bite her lower lip and stand up.
"Wait." Yulia paused again and turned around to face her friends. "Do I look okay?"
"You are always beautiful, Yulia,” Helen replied first.
"None of the ladies here can hold a candle to you." Molly overly complimented.
Yulia, pleased with their reaction, turned back around and approached the Duke. She stopped in front of him, ignoring the presence of the other girl, and lifted her dress to curtsy. "Thank you for attending my Coming of Age ceremony, Your Grace, Lucius Rizar."
Her cheeks flushed with joy at the thought of talking with Lucius after a long time. That last time she spoke with him was two years ago during another party and before that almost three years ago at the academy when she entered as a new student.
Before the Duke returned her greetings, the young woman sitting next to him interrupted.
“Darling!” A crystal clear voice called out. “Why don’t you try a piece of this cake? It’s really delicious!”
Even though Yulia wanted to push this horrible person away from the Duke, she endured and continued to smile.
But Lucius didn’t even plan on greeting her in the first place.
Not that she was aware of this.
“I do not know who this lady is, but…” Yulia said with a stiff expression. “His Grace isn’t very fond of sweets.”
Aurora noticed the flash of hatred in the young lady's eyes. She found herself wanting to escape this ridiculous scenario.
“Is that so?” Aurora turned to Lucius and with her teary emerald eyes, she looked at him with her lips pursed in a pout. “Do you really not like to eat sweets? Sniff. Sniff.”
Seeing this, most of the noble men there could not help but stare at her with a heated gaze, but the Duke raised his eyebrows, amused at her bad acting. Before coming to the banquet, he nearly had to beg her to play along with him to get rid of a bothersome fly buzzing around him.
Aurora saw that Lucius was about to laugh and fiercely glared at him. Her eyes were telling him, 'I'll pinch your cheek if you laugh. I'm doing this for you, after all.'
Lucius smoothly transitioned back to his average stiff face. He opened his mouth and leaned forward to eat the piece of cake on the spoon. He forcefully swallowed it, but he didn’t show he hated it. “I will gladly accept any food that is offered by you.”
‘Kyaaaaaa!!!’
Most of the young girls who saw this scene wanted to yell in excitement. Even Helen and Molly were blushing from the Duke’s words. His expression was still ice-cold as he said this, but his words were just too stimulating.
Only Griselda, who was looking down at her feet, turned visibly pale.
Now she understands why the female seniors at the academy always warned Yulia and the other younger girls to stay away from him.
Stories about how he chopped off both hands of a girl who hugged him from behind spread throughout the school. Many of the younger girls thought these were rumors the older girls spread to keep them from getting close to him. Since barely anyone had the chance to get close to him at all, they found it hard to believe that he was such a cruel man.
But! She can say for certain now that every single story about him probably had some truth to it.
The moment she came close enough to feel his aura, Griselda recoiled in horror, almost losing her footing.
This man......is terrifying!!!
