When she smiled, Lucius couldn't take his eyes off her. While he has met his share of beauties in the past, she held a lot of charm that was enough to capture the hearts of both men and women.
"Are you done staring?" She asked, her eyebrows raised.
He chuckled. "Not really."
“Enough. I am tired. Whatever you have to say, say it tomorrow. Are you not afraid that rumors will begin to spread about you entering an unmarried lady’s room?”
“Aren’t we passed that now? And while not official, I have already declared you as my fiancée. Such things no longer matter.” He leaned down and ran his fingers through her loose hair. “I haven’t seen you with your hair completely down like this since the first time we met. You should wear it like this often.”
When she heard his low, husky voice and saw the flash of gold in his blue eyes, she realized what he wanted...what he really came to her room for.
So, that was his true intention?
Aurora raised her eyes and stared at him. He wore a simple long-sleeved black shirt and white pants. Although there was not anything special about his clothes, he still stood out. The dark shirt complemented his red hair, making him appear like a devilishly handsome man.
“If that’s all you wanted, you should have just told me,” Aurora whispered, her tone light and playful.
She turned and stepped in front of him. Each step she took forward, he stepped back. She did not stop until he bumped into the bed.
“What are you--?”
Lucius wasn’t able to finish questioning because she had him pushed on the bed in the next second and climbed on top of him. His eyes slightly widened in surprise at this. “I guess we can count this as the third time?”
Aurora didn’t answer. Instead, with her mouth near his ear, she spoke with an enchanting voice. “I will gladly give you my body to have whenever you want. No need to make up excuses.” Her lips brushed against his skin, making him shiver when he felt his breath on him.
The Duke froze when he heard what she said. His left hand that was her back moved to fall on the bed.
Without realizing the change in him, she closed her eyes and continued to kiss him. She moved her lips from his lips to his cheek. When Aurora planted a kiss on his neck, she finally noticed that he was not responding at all. Aurora sat up, and when she saw his expression, the sound of her heart drummed against her ears.
It was the first time she saw such an expression from him whose face was usually stiff.
Hurt and filled with emotion.
Even though it was not a happy expression, Aurora could not take her eyes off him. ‘I wonder if anyone else besides me knows that he can actually make such an expression?'
Lucius slowly pushed her off him and stood up from the bed with his back towards her.
With the uncomfortable ambiance hanging between them, neither said a thing.
Lucius' lips formed a line, and he narrowed his eyes. “You…what kind of person do you think I am?” With his low voice, he broke the silence. “Don’t insult me.” The Duke left her room without looking back.
When he closed the door behind, Aurora wrapped her arms around her legs. “That’s what I’m not sure about.” She whispered to herself.
Aurora was betrayed twice by people she thought she knew well, only to be proven otherwise. One she gave her heart to, and another she thought of as family. No, four if you count being abandoned by her Mother and killed by her own Father.
The only thing that kept her sane was the promise she made to live. It was both a blessing and a curse that binds her.
Still, his expressions that he only showed in front of her made her greedy for more.
'It all belongs to me.'
And yet, the hunger clawing at her scared Aurora.
If she lets him in only to be betrayed again, would she be able to survive this time?
And so, since that night, the two avoided each other like one would avoid the rain.

While Aurora was mentally torturing the Knights at the training field, another few brave Knights were on the receiving end of their Master’s frustration.
The officials of the Rizar duchy were called in on their day off to give their reports. Only…there was not anything new to report! Once every month, a meeting is held, and the last one was only just a week ago.
Due to the mines with rare minerals, the Rizar Dukedom did not have any trouble securing revenue. There was even less to worry about over the past few years with the blacksmith guild's support.
The barrier around the Corrupted Region was as strong as ever, and even the erosion has slowed down. Since this was a rare event, it greatly surprised the other nobles. Unfortunately, the only problem was the mysterious murders and disappearances. But that was handled by the Knights and had nothing to do with them!

The Rizar Ducal Family officials focused on keeping the economy flowing by providing trade routes and daily paying jobs. They also focused on keeping the citizens happy by resolving situations that kept them from living a stable life and safe life.
“Then?” Lucius scoffed as he stared at the officials trembling before him.
“Y-yes?” The official in front answered with trembling knees.
“The drought reserve dams construction, did you not say there were no problems? But why is there barely any progress?”
“W-w-well, with the current budget, we can only hire so many people. The construction should finish before the winter star rises.”
“Too slow. Didn’t I increase the budget for the plan? Where did the money go? Or are you telling me that someone in the dukedom is involved in embezzlement?”
“O-of course not! I will take care of it right away!”
The air in the room dropped below freezing. Even the Knights who should have been used to it found themselves unable to move.
Who could blame them?
Lately, the mansion was not cold at all. In its place was a familiar warmth. Who would have thought that a woman would be responsible for this change in the Duke?
But all too soon, they came to notice the terror that would soon follow. The Knights realized that she was the cause of the changes in the Duke's emotions, which in turn caused them to suffer even more.
And so, the Knights started to think that rather than an angel, maybe she was a little devil who had come to torture them.
'Endure.'
'Endure...'
'Endure!'
'After all, it's for the sake of our Commander's love life!!!!!!'
Captain Raya thought otherwise as he held his throbbing forehead. He knew from the very beginning that woman was trouble.
“Next.”
The official in the green robes at the front cleared his throat. “Some of the nobles are requesting to change the law for the luxury goods tax to lessen the tax. Based on the reasonings, luxury goods can only be afforded by those with wealth, and thus there is no reason to increase it.”
“Oh?” Lucius slowly smiled, his expression turning dark. “Increase the luxury goods tax double from the previous revised law.”
The official paled in fright. “If we suddenly increase the tax that much without reason, then they will not accept it!”
“It is not without reason. Issue a declaration that by increasing the luxury goods tax, we can lessen the tax burden on the commoners.”
Everyone in the room fell silent.
The officials started whispering amongst themselves as they debated about whether the nobles will accept the law or not. Not accepting this meant having further strained relations with the businessmen amongst the commoners.
While the officials were talking about this with hushed voices, Lucius was thinking about something entirely different.
Lucius did not understand. Why was he angry when what she said was not wrong? In the beginning, he only proposed to her to take responsibility for his actions, right? And she only agreed to his proposal as a matter of convenience due to their intimate relationship. And then she mentioned wanting a contract...
He didn't like it, but at that time he thought it was the best way to get her to agree to the marriage.
When you think about it, their relationship was only based off of mutual benefits.
Is that all it really amounts to?
"....Next!!"
While the Knights and officials were being tortured in the office, back at the training grounds, Aurora continued to focus on improving her archery.
Aurora placed two arrows on the bow and aimed at the target in front of her. Both arrows hit the target dead in the center, causing the Knights to whistle with appreciation.
But there was one Knight who didn't look so happy.
