A group of students stood in the outside field used to practice archery.
Professor Ingsen and Aurora came within a few feet of the field, but not one person stopped to look. She found the atmosphere quite different from the younger students. It was both intense and yet serene.
The ping of the bowstring rang out clear and loud each time someone released an arrow.
Aurora was surprised by the level of attention each student gave to the bow in their hand.
“Our curriculum this month focuses on hitting moving targets while also moving. In other words, mounted archery.”
The Professor pointed at another group of students at the horseback riding field. “You will compete with a current student.” He moved the lollipop around in his mouth. “No need to win. ~Just do your best.”
He moved to the area he pointed at, with Aurora following behind.
She noticed that they were also looking towards her. It appears Professor Ingsen already notified them of her arrival, seeing as how they were the only ones not practicing.
“Have you guys decided?” He asked the students.
One of the male students nodded his head. “Lady Lillian accepts the challenge.”
“Oh? How rare.” The Professor looked towards the female student, Lillian. “Are you sure?”
“I am.”
When she stepped forward, Aurora narrowed her eyes.
Short blue hair.
Light brown eyes.
It’s her.
Gaius’ little sister, Lillian Lancaster.
When their eye met briefly, Aurora noticed the hostility hidden deep. While Lillian tried to conceal it, as someone used to such malice being pointed her way, Aurora was sensitive to such emotions.
The Professor stared at Lillian. “Hmm, hmm, hmm. Interesting!!"
He lifted his lips into a mysterious smile. "Then, Miss Future Duchess, you do know how to ride a horse, yes? It will be useless to do if your equestrian skills aren’t up to par.” He casually asked Aurora, unaware of Lillian's face darkening.
“Of course."
“Good. Then we will use the shortened version of the castle subjugation competition.”
When Aurora looked at the Professor baffled, he began explaining.
“You are the King, and as the King, you must protect your people from your enemy.” The Professor signaled for a student to hand him something. He held it up for Aurora to see.
…A wooden target shaped like a person…how weird…the setting was strangely explicit.
“You will each have ten targets tied to 5 meters of string to the back of your saddles. They aren’t weak enough to break from contact, but when hit with an arrow, they will split in half.”
The other students watched as the Professor explained the game with disdain etched on their faces.
“I thought she would be amazing after receiving recommendations from two influential people, but she isn't anything special.” One female student smirked.
“She doesn’t even know what the castle subjugation competition is. It is an easy win for you, Lady Lillian.” Another male student said as he patted her shoulder.

Lillian smiled and nodded her head.
Professor Ingsen clapped his hands to silence the students and continued explaining the rules. “You must stay 10 meters away from each other at all times. Only ten arrows will be provided. The one who has the most intact targets left after five minutes wins.”
He looked at Aurora.
“Do you have your horseback riding outfit?”
“Yes.” She pointed at the black bag she was carrying.
“Good, good.”
‘….Why does this person like to say ‘good’ so many times?’ Aurora found it a little amusing.
“Lillian.” He called out as he took another lollipop out after he finished the first one. “Please show her where to change.”
“Yes, Professor.” Lillian walked towards Aurora and gave a small smile. “Please follow me.”
Without another word, the two left the view of the class to a separate building next to the stables.
As Aurora changed inside a small hidden compartment, Lillian waited outside to show her the way after she finished.
There was a silent tension between the two until Lillian lost her patience and decided to break it.
“If I am not mistaken, you are Lady Isla, My Lord's fiancée, yes?"
Aurora did not answer right away.
Aurora heard the sarcasm in the word ‘fiancée’, but that was not the only thing that caught her interest.
‘My Lord,’ she said?
It is a title used when a subordinate calls out to their master. And for Lillian to call him that way without hesitation despite losing her qualification as a Knight due to her disability meant only one thing.
Lillian still considers Lucius her master.
Thinking she might not have heard her, Lillian planned on repeating herself until a voice gave a reply.
“I am. And if I am not mistaken, you are Gaius Lancaster's little sister and MY darling's previous Knight, Lillian Lancaster, yes?”
Hearing how this woman called her beloved with such a term of endearment made Lillian clench her hand until she felt her nails dig into her skin, drawing blood.
"...I am." She reluctantly answered.
Aurora shivered at the thick bloodlust directed towards her.
How frightening.
Still, this let Aurora understand Lillian a little bit more. Like she thought, Lillian's love leaned towards obsession and worship. You can see it in the way she killed all those women. And if that's the case, it will be easy to make her lose control of her reasoning.
No.
Lillian Lancaster has already long lost sight of reality.
