“I’ve got one more question for you, Ide-san.”

“What is it?”

From how pale her face now, I could see that she really can’t take this kind of stuff too well. She has been living in this narrative in her mind to seek ease and blame it on others because of the loss of her friend. I do get where’s she’s coming from, but at the same time, it’s wrong.

“Why is Arima have great hatred towards Nagasawa?”

“I don’t have any idea about that...”

“They’re friends with each other, right? Childhood friends, I mean. When did it start?”

“Start...? Actually, Koichi only started talking to me once again this year... Giving me warning about Kazuo, but I don’t believe it because he’s a kind-hearted person.”

Kind-hearted...

“Is he the type of guy who helps others with no exchange willingly?”

“Eh...? He’s willing to help...? He’s been helping people in trouble.”

“How willing? Like, sacrificing himself for the sake of other people?”

“Eh...? Where did that come from...?”

“Ah, sorry. Some personal stuff.”, snapping out of it, I realized that what I’m saying is getting sidetracked.

I then continued, “Let’s get back to the topic. Arima just came out of nowhere telling you this kind of stuff?”

“We haven’t talked for about a year after the rumors spread about him. He distanced himself from us.”

“And you found that attitude of him, a guilty person?”

“I mean, yeah... He’s acting like a guilty person by distancing himself from me.”

“That’s why you came to that conclusion that he did it?”

“NO! I mean, I have some doubts... But, I’m not implying that he actually did it.”

“You’re lying. You clearly said earlier that made you hate him, which meant you actually believed it.”

“...”, Ide-san didn’t reply.

“Rethink all of that first. For Arima distancing himself, he clearly did it to protect you. He doesn’t want you to get caught up with those rumors. I could clearly see that you really don’t trust him, nor even a single ounce of it. Stop trying to make yourself good, like you only wanted what’s best for your best friend or friends. You have an innocent friend who got caught up, and you didn’t even bother to understand his side of the story.”

“Who are you to tell me that?!” she glared at me.

“A nobody. A stranger to you, per se, even to Arima. Now, for my point. Did you ever try talking to your friend? Or, comfort her in some way?”

“Of course! But... I’m not allowed... She has been keeping herself shut... That’s what her parents told me.”

“So, you talked to her from outside of the door?”

“I—... No...”

I furrowed my eyebrows.

“Are you serious?”, I glared at her in bewilderment.

“Can you even call yourself a best friend? You didn’t even try to comfort her at her lowest time?! When she clearly needs you?! You know what. I’m done here.”, I stood up and started walking out.

“How can you even say that? You’re not even her.”, Ide-san retorted angrily.

Stopping in my tracks, I turned around.

“I could clearly feel what she went through. I can’t tell you what I’ve been through, but the only thing I could say it’s an experience you wouldn’t even hear to a normal kid. The only thing that kept me alive was the support that I got from my family. Their own words that came from their mouth are the ones that pushed me to persevere. Imagine if I’ve got a best friend whom I could treat as a sister, imagine how her comforting words would help me. If you’re thinking that a measly word will not help a person, that’s where you are wrong. You clearly don’t understand friendship or companionship at all, those stuff are not meant to be fun and games. You take them seriously. I loathe people like you.”, I said sternly.

Ide-san didn’t retort, as she only watches me leave.

“And, by the way, I was planning to help you, but from what I’ve seen, you need to sort those things out first by yourself. And, If I were you. I’ll take Arima’s warnings, he knew something that you clearly didn’t.”, the last thing I’ve said to her before leaving her completely.

Ide-san only watched me departing.

Walking on the side of the road.

Ahhhh!

Why did it go to that?! I was really planning to help her, but my emotions got ahead of me again! But remembering what she did really irritates me. If her point of view that if she tried comforting her, it will be like adding salt to the wound. That would make sense because she’s a victim. You wouldn’t want her to remember the thing that scarred her life.

However, what irritates me, the audacity of her to lie in front of me. Arima clearly distanced himself, then Ide-san pushed him further away. She’s clearly blaming and suspecting Arima. What a hypocrite. I’m in no position to tell all this stuff like I knew everything, but it really just irritates me to the core.

She seems likely to be a good person, however, her naiveness and immatureness were really an annoyance in my eyes.

As I walk on the side of the road, I saw black cars parking in front of our house once again. Upon seeing that, I clearly knew who was that person. Passing by them, they greeted me with respective bows. Then I went inside the house, entering the house I saw Yuki sitting with Asuka on her lap watching the television.

It got me surprised when I saw both of them; I didn’t expect Asuka to sit on Yuki’s lap it’s the same for Yuki. Then Yuki sensed something, so she turned her head around and saw me standing just behind them.

“Tatsu, good morning~” Yuki greeted me with a smile on her face.

When the little one on her lap heard my name, her eyes glistened and jumped out of her lap, immediately went to me while yelling my name with an adorable thin voice. “Nii-chan!”

“You’re back? I’m preparing breakfast, won’t take long.”, Aunt Ayaka said from the kitchen counter.

I lifted Asuka into my embrace, then went to sit beside Yuki and watched together with them.

“Why did you ask me to search for that person?” Yuki asked.

“Nothing, I just wanted information about her — It piqued my interest.”

“Interest...?”

“Yeah, she’s a childhood friend of Arima and that Nagasawa.”

“Nagasawa, huh... I checked his files.”

“Did you find something?”

“Nothing, he’s only an average high schooler. Childhood friends of Arima Koichi, Ide Aoi, and Miyata Miyuki. Miyata Miyuki a victim of an unfortunate event because of that, her psychological trauma made her deaf.”

“Is there anything related to her case that you could tell me?”

“On the police report, they said it’s a possibility of burglary or stalking. Because they found footage of the man with a mask and a hoodie, entering her house before her. Then the guy waited inside her house.”

“Broad daylight?”

I didn’t ask Ide-san when that happened.

“No, it was at night time. She was going home late at the time where she was buying something.”

“What about her parents?”

“Yeah, about that. The possibility of stalking comes in because the guy clearly knew that she will be all alone in her house. He planned it beforehand, a perfectly well-executed plan.”

“And about the burglary?”

“The guy stole all of her electronics such as her smartphone, laptop, and some random stuff in her room.”

“Ahh, I see...”

“Is that all you need to know?”

“Yeah, thanks. By the way, can you investigate Nagasawa for me?”

“On it, don’t worry. I’m quite suspicious of that ever since yesterday.”, she smiled gleefully.

“How many days would take that?”

“I don’t know. Sometimes, it would take months. The people in the security department of my family use social engineering to gather information.”

“For real? I thought they will use force to make them talk or something.”

“You watched too many fictional movies. Haa... Our family is a linage of nobility, not an underground family, we use conventional and moral tactics. Even though, you could say that we can get away with the laws of this country because of our wealth and power. The Hatsumi clan respects and loves this country. “

“Sorry... My bad about that...”.

“It’s okay. Many people think that way, even in some noble families.”

“In your family?”

“Yeah, that’s what gramps told me.”

“I see...”

“By the way, care to repeat what you said earlier? I didn’t record it.”

I narrowed my eyes, looking at Yuki. “No way.”

“Come on~”

“Next time.”

“You kept saying that I’m being a tsun-tsun yesterday, but I can clearly tell that you are acting like one.”

I leaned close to her ear and whispered. “Love you.”, with a smile on my face.

“One more! One more! I forgot to record it!” Yuki exclaimed excitedly, like a kid opening its present on Christmas eve.

Bringing out her phone, she clicked record and put it near my mouth.

“No way. That’s enough for today.”

“What the fuck is that? There’s a limit thing to that?”

“Yep. Wait until tomorrow.”, I smiled.

“That’s so unfair! I’ll just be ready by tomorrow then.”

“Hahahaha...” I laughed.

I started rubbing Yuki’s head as I was laughing. But in her response, she was sulking while staring at me with cheeks puffed. I squeezed her puffing cheek to which she agonizes in pain.

“Awww~”

Then I stopped squeezing her, and only patted the little one’s head in my lap watching the television.

“That hurts...”, rubbing her cheeks.

“Not my fault.”

“How is not your fault?”, Yuki glared at me.

I shrugged in reply.

“What happened to you?”

“—?” I looked at her, confused.

“Don’t give me that look. I know you know what I’m talking about.”

“I really don’t know... Perhaps, because my chest feels lighter than usual.”

“What nonsense is that? Are you saying that after you woke up, you got some enlightenment?”

“You could say so?” I shrugged.

“Haaa... I give up.”

“I really don’t know. I can’t tell you anything when I myself don’t even know.”, shrugging again.

“Fine.”

Yuki then rested her head on my shoulder as we watch the children's show where Asuka watched it yesterday. Yes, the cat one. Asuka was watching the white cat once again, even started imitating it. I can’t get enough of how cute Asuka is right now.

Amidst that, I heard some footsteps walking in the stairway.

“Suya! Where did you go?!”, it was Nee-san.

Looking back, “I’ve gone for a walk.”

“You didn’t even wake me up.”

“You’re sleeping peacefully, so I didn’t. And, you said ‘later’.”

“Not that!”

“What?”, tilting my head in confusion.

“If you have gone out, I could have gone with you?! What if something happened to you?!”

“Nee... I can handle myself outside. I’m not a toddler.”

“Let him be he said, he wanted to take a walk alone to clear something in his mind. He should do that to sort some stuff out. He can’t do that with you around clinging to him like a child.”, Aunt Ayaka interjected.

Nee-san said nothing, as she only stares at me.

“What Aunt said was true. I need some time off.”

“O-Okay...” Nee-san said with a dejected face.

After that, Nee-san joined us by sitting beside me. We all watched the dancing white cat on the television as Asuka dance and sing along with it. At some point, I started singing along with it even Yuki and Nee-san. The song is quite catchy even for a children's song.

We then ate breakfast together, then Nee-san and I changed our clothes to our school uniform. As for Nee-san’s transfer, Yuki said it’s in the process then she can finally go to our school next week or the week after that, depends on how fast the process will be.

To be honest, I stopped caring. Though I will not make things go in her way once she would have gotten to our school. There’s no way I would agree with that. I will fight for it.
