A sword swung out from Rowan's hands as it flung toward Viaan and Gio who were nearby, they were pushing newly picked cotton into the container.
Gio went to attempt to pick it up when he is stopped. He thrust the boy away before he could do anything, he gave an angry sneer as he lifted his blade from the sooty ground below wiping it on it his pant leg.
"Never touch my equipment, next time I will have your head rolling." He threatened.
"Viaan, Gio!" A voice shouted.
Their attention was turned to Declan huffing and puffing from running, Rowan was puzzled why he was out of breath. He had half squatted, his hands placed on his knees with his eyes closed looking down.
"Rowan…we need to talk!" Declan shouted.
"We need to talk about nothing, I am leaving within the week." Rowan scoffed.
"Then have a drink with me in the kitchen!" Declan asked.
"Declan, why are you here?" Gio questioned.
He brought his hand down over Gio's head to pat him affectionately smiling. Gently he forced him away without trying to hurt his feelings.
"Let's go back picking, Gio," Viaan explained.
"Fine…"
"I will be back in a while okay?" Declan announced.
"Well out with it!"
Rowan had no patience for Declan and particulars, he turned his nose up to the air spinning in a full circle away from view only to stare at the large house in front of him.
"Come to the damn kitchen alone…" He mumbled.
Declan's face lit up, it would be the first time in a long time he would allow him in the house again let alone to talk or drink; he followed far behind in case anyone saw them hobbling up the small hill.
Opening the rickety door, Rowan goes to the shelf to pull off a brown bottle and two small glass cups and set them down on the counter.
"Where the hell did you run off to earlier?" Rowan snapped.
"I was checking something."
"Don't tell me…"
Uncorking the top of the bottle he poured messily into the cups, Declan could sense he was deeply stressed about something. Fear ran through his veins as he shakily snatched it up in the palm of his hands to down the whole thing in a go.
He sighed out, his gaze concentrated on Declan who had an awkward smile on his face.
"Why are you staring at me that way?" Rowan growled.
"You just seem…upset?"
"You know already don't you…"
His came off eerily almost quiet, the sat side by side on the stools. Declan was not planning on drinking when Rowan took their hand smashing it into his back making him lean over the alcohol and stare into the brownish liquid.
"Know what?" Declan inquired.
"Don't play smartass with me you stupid fanged asshole!"
"Okay! Okay! I get it already!"
The tipsy man's face reddened after taking Declan's drink, he blew air through his nostrils as huffed out. He scratched his scraggy stubbles on his chin thinking to himself, it's been a long time since Declan and Rowan had ever had hung out.
"We're going back to check…" He explained.
"Bring me with you Rowan."
"Mr. Iden would have my head if you went missing suddenly."
"We have no choice if you want to see everyone live!" He begged.
He stood up regret in his eyes, a flame he hadn't felt in a very long time. Rowan became enraged gawking up at the ragged tired face in front of him knocking him down with a simple push and returning to another swig.
"Stay…here…"

"Rowan…"
"Have Nava prepared if something happens and run."
"What are you telling me?"
He became silent tilting back and forth for a second staring into nothing ahead of him, his finger feeling around the lip of the bottle. His head hung to the side sluggishly, and his vision darkened with the blink of an eye.
"Just do what I say and find a way to get to me…"
His digits found their way to his scabbard, he rose from the seat hobbling to the door. Declan watched his intoxicated mannerisms as he slammed the door open.
Glaring below him he saw the sharpened, snaggletoothed verdant green creature ogling him straight in the eyes. A grin ear-to-ear smeared on its colored lips, and a ferocious cry howled out deep into the day.
Rowan lifted the blade over his head wailing in fear, he thrust the blade down. Declan was confused, he saw nothing in the doorway.
He jumped to his feet to force the weapon out of his hands pushing his sharpened claws into his knuckles, Rowan's face was flushed and tipped forward; It plopped down into the dirt.
"There was nothing there!" Declan argued.
"It was there…" He whispered.
Helping him up to his feet Declan was unsure of what he really saw, he helped Rowan stand on his two feet before exiting.
"How dare you leave me to Nava like this Rowan."
"She is my fiancee, you are doing me a favor." He smirked.
"Let's hope it is Nothing…"
Declan was oblivious, his head was still turned before he knew it he had bumped into someone ahead of him.
"Declan?" Nava asked.
"He was just leaving!" Rowan argued.
"Good day, Lady Nava."
With a small bow he was gone, her expression changed. She noticed the sword on the ground and how he was half smiling at her.
"So you heard?" He smiled.
"You are going back aren't you?"
"Whatever…"
She ran past the kitchen into the dining room, Rowan ran back outside to see if Declan was still there. No sight of him could be found, he could tell Nava was upset after what had happened.
Mr. Iden was crawling up the tiny mound of a hill doing everything he could to not fall along the way. You could hear him wheezing until he reached the top looking at Rowan curiously.
"The funeral is tomorrow, Rowan," Iden explained.
"Oh…right, thank you, Mr.Iden."
His mind was on other things, his mind felt haunted by the sights of the squabbling creatures and suddenly he must go back due to a mistake. He was not sure if he made it or one of the other team members.
"Get some rest, it will be a long day."
"Did you go somewhere earlier with Nava?" Rowan asked.
"No, why do you ask?"
"No reason, none at all."
Iden pat the man on the back, walking away leaving him alone once again in the kitchen. A feeling of impending doom sat heavy in his heart. He knew something was wrong, he knew what Declan was here for and almost decidedly abandoned it.
Within the next week, the other adventurers will be back. Ved had sent him an important message that he could not ignore one that he will answer when they come back for the meeting.
Nava, precious Nava might be in danger. Their lives in the hands of a small mistake, his hands trembled only deeply sighing to himself.
"What have I done…"
