Situated above Hang City, in the outer atmosphere of Earth, the Chaos was running some tests.
“All readings are nominal.”
“Warp drive readings are normal.”
“Local space is stable. We can proceed with the experiment.”
Both Dong Qianyi and Chen Tianhua were on the bridge and were commanding the entire experiment. “To think that we would be able to succeed in developing dimensional travel technology! If we can construct a wormhole, we can bring humanity to the next era!”
“Don’t get too happy first. This is the first time we’ll be experimenting with this.” Chen Tianhua redirected part of the energy from the reactor within the Chaos. The reactor had been built with the help of Xiang Ning to maximize the amount of energy extracted from spiritual stones. It was the most advanced reactor that they could build with their current technology.
Azura also had reactors capable of converting the energy from spiritual stones to electricity, but at most, they could only extract 30% of it. Xiang Ning’s reactor, on the other hand, was capable of extracting 98% of the total energy contained within a spiritual stone.
“Establish a field!”
“Energy from the reactor has been redirected to the construction of the field!”
“We’re at 1%!”
“Wormhole activation estimated to be completed in thirty seconds.”

Spatial leap was done by connecting two distinct points in space—one at the original location, and the other at the destination. The universe was like a net, and to leap from one place to another, they needed to tear open a hole to connect the two spaces. To do that, they required a massive amount of energy.
According to their simulation, as long as the wormhole was established, they would be able to use it anytime, though it still required a lot of energy. Think of it like installing a door onto a wall.
“71%! T-minus ten seconds!”
Just as the countdown started, Dong Qianyi’s personal communicator rang. Who’s calling me now at this critical moment? But when he saw who was calling, he immediately shouted, “STOP THE EXPERIMENT!”
“Order received! Stopping the experiment and venting all excess energy!”
Chen Tianhua was anticipating the construction of a wormhole in space. It was just seconds away! But to think that the mark of the next era was stopped by his friend. Still, he knew what kind of man Dong Qianyi was. He wouldn’t stop an experiment just because of mundane reasons, so he immediately asked him what was wrong.
“Something happened to Xiang Ning!”
“What?!” Chen Tianhua could not believe what he had heard. “What’s wrong? Wasn’t he just fine? Didn’t you just talk to him not too long ago? What happened to him?”

“It’s the ruins! Something happened to him there!”
“Is the news trustworthy?” Chen Tianhua was skeptical. He knew the news was most likely real, but how could someone like Xiang Ning, the one whom both the Federation and the military were heavily keeping track of, encounter something life-threatening?
“The news is trustworthy. Eibolon was the one who sent me the news. His grandnephew, Nathan Tulip, sent him the report.” Dong Qianyi creased his brows. The rest of the crew on the bridge also heard the news and was worried. It looked like their young master was in danger.
‘Young master’ was the nickname that the crew of the Chaos had given Xiang Ning. They had come up with it after seeing how both Dong Qianyi and Chen Tianhua were treating him like a gemstone. Everyone knew how much Xiang Ning had contributed to the battleship, so they called him that to tease him.
“According to the report, there’s an unknown organism within the ruins. It’s extremely strong. Over ten or more tier five martial artists were killed within half a minute without even being capable of retaliating. Soon afterward, ten more people died within the ruins as they explored it. Initial assessment of the monster’s strength placed it on par with a tier eight Beast King. All communications with Xiang Ning were cut off!”
Chen Tianhua understood the severity of the situation. He was just about to say something when Dong Qianyi continued, “Old Chen, continue the experiment! I’ll go to the ruins myself!”
Chen Tianhua was confused. “What can you do if you go there? Call sect master Zhao and let him handle it.”
“No, he returned to guard the city. You should know that the ruin is a fallen battleship. If I bring some equipment to scan it, I can probably locate Xiang Ning.”
“Fine. Make haste. Leave this place to me.”
“Alright then.” Dong Qianyi didn’t waste any time and left the bridge straight away. An hour later, he piloted a flying ship and departed from the west side of the Chaos and headed straight to the ruins.
......
Back on the Hairo Empire battleship, Xiang Ning didn’t know what was happening outside. He had read a part of the experimental data in the lab and saved the rest in a hard drive. He would have to slowly go through it once he was outside.
He had been reading all the information he could about the Qiuros. According to the data, it was initially a virus that the Hairo Empire had acquired from the planet Pandora. After hundreds of years of cultivating and modifying it, they managed to speed up its evolutionary process into a multicellular being. All Qiuros have hyper regeneration, much like how a lizard could regrow their tails. But their regenerative ability was hundreds of times stronger than a lizard. Even if their brain or heart were destroyed, they could still regenerate and survive.
Rather than lizards, Xiang Ning noted that they were more like salamanders that possessed a higher rate of regeneration. He knew that certain species of salamanders were capable of regenerating part of their brain if it were to be injured.
As he read that, he checked the Devourer on his back. A thought flashed through his mind and he smirked. If his sister was there, she would have known that her brother was up to no good again.
The Devourer, which was now slowly recovering on Xiang Ning’s back, sensed its master’s gaze and sent out signals that more or less went along the lines of “No, don’t even think about it.”
Xiang Ning continued poring over the data and sighed. A biological weapon like this shouldn’t exist. The data also described the fatal weakness of the Qiuros, which was its DNA. Xiang Ning guessed that it was probably its otherworldly regenerative ability that caused the instability of its DNA. The more it regenerated, the faster its DNA would mutate and collapse.
That meant that as long as they suffered enough damage they would be reduced to a pile of tissue, effectively neutralizing them.
It was once again midnight when Xiang Ning finally checked his watch. He could use Refresh again, so it was time to explore deeper. Now that he found out about the Qiuros’ weakness, he was much more confident. While it was strong, it seemed that his Disguise was still effective.
He now held an advantage over the rest of the martial artists. Xiang Ning was certain that more martial artists would pour into the ruins after Nathan and the rest made it out. It had been so long since then, but no one else had made it to the lab. That meant it was an excellent chance for Xiang Ning—time to collect everything for himself!
