Fang Zhenyuan relented after he saw how confident Xiang Ning was. He didn’t know what had happened to him over the past year, but the boy had changed so much that even he would have thought he was someone else. Xiang Ning’s eyes were filled with resolution and confidence that one could only attain after going through deadly encounters.
“I understand,” Fang Zhenyuan sighed.
Thousands of kilometers away, a castle sat on an island within the mediterranean sea. Someone was shouting while running through the castle.
“Master Dexter! Master Dexter! Bad news! Young master Moray has died!”
The founder of Dexter Corporation, Morton Dexter, had unparalleled talent in business and finance. He was just a step away from being qualified as one of the Twelve Prodigies and was also a tier seven sect master. His wife commanded one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the Merchant Association; their marriage was a strategic one.
Compared to the other political marriages, where the couple wouldn’t get along, they were in love with each other. Moray was their only son and both of them loved him. Even though their son hadn’t shown any talent in firearms or medicine, his talent in business was more than enough to make up for it. Ever since he was young, he had successfully completed numerous business transactions, even though he might go crazy from time to time. At the age of sixteen, he had already earned a billion dollars all by himself. And no one else even knew who he was, as he had hidden his true identity to conduct all transactions.
That was why he was paid close attention to by the Dexter Corporation and Simi Pharmaceuticals. How could they accept that their son was dead just like that?
Morton saw the sweating butler and slowly closed the book he was reading. “Are you sure?”
“Yes, master. The vital monitor on the young master’s body flatlined.” The butler swallowed his saliva.
Morton slammed the table with his hands. “WHO DARES TOUCH MY SON? WHO WAS IT? WHO KILLED HIM?” He swept everything on the table to the floor. “WHERE DID HE DIE?”
“China, Marsh City. The bodyguard sent us a message. The one who killed the young master was also a tier seven martial artist that was abnormally strong. Not even the bodyguard could win.”
“A tier seven martial artist?! A mere tier seven?! Fuck him! Gather all of the tier seven martial artists we have. I’ll personally kill him!”

The butler was afraid but still had to remind his master, “Sir, you know the policy China has against foreigners. If we infiltrate them, we’d cause tension—”
The butler was cut off before he could even finish. “Enough! I don’t care! He dies today!”
Before the butler could say anything else, a figure entered the room. It was Moranna, the wife of Morton and Moray’s mother. She was already fifty years old, but still looked like she was thirty. She was definitely still in her prime, as a mature aura exuded from her elegant body.
When Morton saw his wife entering his study, he suppressed his rage and consoled her, “I’m sorry, Moranna.”
“Don’t apologize to me. Have you found the man responsible for our son's death?”
“The killer didn’t hide. He knew that we were the Dexter family, yet he still chose to kill our son!” Morton had already lost his mind and wanted to kill Xiang Ning without any care for the repercussions, and it was only Moranna’s presence that calmed him down a little. To think that he would kill his son even knowing he was from the infamous Dexter family. People were usually more careful after knowing his true identity.

His son had indeed gotten into much trouble outside. As a father, he naturally knew about them. There were numerous times that Moray had infuriated powerful people, but all of them had chosen to just send him back home and accept the compensation from him. While there were numerous assassination attempts, this was the first time he had seen someone attacking him in broad daylight.
“Butler, go and investigate the background of the killer.”
“Yes, master. Please allow me thirty minutes.”
Thirty minutes later, the couple read the information and their faces darkened. The disciple of one of the Twelve Great Prodigies? While it sounded amazing, to the Dexter family, it wasn’t important enough. Morton was already sponsoring the research of three of the Twelve Great Prodigies. There was no way the killer would rely on his relationship with his master to evade the repercussions of killing Moray. The killer’s family and friends were at risk from his action!
But as they continued reading, they understood the reason why the boy was so brazen.
“Broken Blade Knight!”
The Broken Blade Knight medal conferred special privileges, including limited judicial powers in certain situations. Usually, it was illegal to kill people in the Federation’s territory.
So why did Moray dare to attempt an assassination of Xiang Xiaoyu? That was because influential families like theirs had numerous substitutes that they could just pin the crime on.
But the holder of a Broken Blade Knight medal was different. The receivers were all individuals that had massively contributed to the Federation and, as such, they were granted a certain amount of power. The medal wasn’t given to just anyone, either. All aspects of the receivers, including their behavior and personality, would be taken into account.
The Federation would never award the medal to someone with a violent disposition.
“So… our son…. He was killed by someone we can’t touch?” Moranna stuttered as her face paled. She knew why her son had wanted to kill Xiang Xiaoyu. If he was successful, they could just shift the blame to someone else. But now, not only had he been caught, but he was also executed. While it was still illegal, Xiang Ning was someone with the Broken Blade Knight medal and his life wouldn’t be touched. He would be reprimanded, at most, and the entire incident would be forgotten in just a few years.
But was Morton going to let it slide?
“Butler, issue a bounty on the killer. Five billion dollars, dead or alive!” If they couldn’t do it themselves, they could always hire mercenaries! They were planning to illegally capture Xiang Ning!
“Issue a bounty on Xiang Xiaoyu too! One billion dollars, alive! I want her to die before my son’s grave!”
“Yes, master!”
All of the criminal societies were shaken by the bounty. A single tier seven beast king would usually have a bounty of seven or eight billion dollars, but Xiang Ning alone was worth five billion! Even though they were both tier seven, Xiang Ning was a human! There were so many methods of killing him, including sniping, poisoning, assassination, or mobbing. It was enough for the dons of the underworld to take action.
“Butler, prepare my luggage and a plane. We depart for China tomorrow.”
“Morton, why’re you still going to China?”
“Did he think it would end just like that? So what if he has a Broken Blade Knight medal? I’m still a Dexter!”
