You know… I had always thought I’d end up somewhere after death. At the very least, it’d be hell, and I could accept that. I didn’t think that I’d end up in a small room filled with plushies and throw pillows, confronted with a five year old calling themself “Chaos”.
Truly it had to be the Pinkest goddamn hell you could imagine. If it was hell that is. As I sat cross-legged on a pink throw pillow, the small girl across from me calmly sipped from a mug of hot chocolate.
Her eyes burned a deep blood-red, and her hair was stark white. Not the kind of white you’d get from dye, but a natural color somewhat reminiscent of snow or bone. “If you’re done admiring my visage, perhaps you’d like to hear that again?”
shaking away the intrusive thoughts, I sighed, saying, “you say you are “Chaos”, and that you want me to be your “Champion” in the fight against “Order” as if this is perfectly easy to accept. Just what the hell-”
the girl's expression never seemed to change from the serene smile, but her eyes grew a dangerous glint as I spoke. Suddenly, my throat closed up, rendering me silent.
“You… talk far too much. Calm down for a moment, and just let me explain.” she said in a somehow calm yet forceful tone. Her words themselves seemed to clamp down on my windpipe, just barely leaving me room to breathe.
“I want to resurrect you, In the world I rule over. There will, however, be a catch.” “For years now, Order, the other ruler of this world, has been trying to get rid of me.” “Because she can’t attack me directly, she has sent numerous challengers after me instead. Granting mortals power they can’t contain, and sending them at me like suicide bombers in your world”
“I want you to serve as my Champion, my chosen warrior. Your job will be to take out Orders champion, but other than that, you’re more than free to live life however you’d like.” Chaos smiled, setting down her now empty mug.
Thinking logically, I had no real reason to refuse, and even if I DID, chances were she could easily force me to. Her show of force earlier had left a decent imprint in my mind of exactly what she was capable of. Her patience was finite, and I likely wouldn’t get a second chance.
Swallowing my doubts, I asked slowly, “so… how do I go about.. You know?” I gestured lamely. Giggling for a moment, Chaos reached under a nearby pillow, and brought out an odd looking wheel. “Its simple really. For now I just need you to give this a spin.”
for a moment, I simply remained silent, struck dumb by the fact that an all-powerful deity was asking me to roll a gacha wheel.
“And… why is that?”
“Your skills with weaponry will serve you well, but in this world, there is a system, and many races, as well as magic. What that means, is that your level of skill, however great, can be easily overwhelmed by the natural abilities of races like dragons.”
“This wheel contains the power to grant you a race that will allow you to fight on an even keel with the strongest races of my world. And at the same time, it will include items and skills that will allow you to grow in strength and become worthy of being called the Champion of Chaos” the girl said, spreading her arms in a theatrical flourish.
“One roll for race, two rolls for starter sets, and three rolls for skills. This will allow you to get a decent start in the world ahead.”
feeling that I wouldn’t get much more of an explanation than what I had already gotten, and not feeling like testing the ladies patience more than I already had, I gave the wheel a spin.
Despite the wheel being made of what looked like stone, and being about the same size I was, it was light, and spun easily. With very little force applied, it spun so fast I lost track of the words on it. Slowly but surely, it tick, tick, ticked down to a single option.
Bladefox? What on earth was a bladefox?
“A lost beastkin race. Not a bad option, and the average stats are quite a bit higher than the majority of beastkin.” “this one should serve you quite well. Make good use of it”
with yet another sigh, I spun the wheel twice more, resulting in a Spearman starter set, and a … umm. “Sexual needs starter set?” I lifted the itembox up in question.
“I was quite bored you know? I had to throw in something to spice things up~ " "don’t hesitate to use it, if you should be feeling particularly… amorous~ fufufu”
I shivered. In my line of work, I’d met more sadists than I’d ever have liked to, and they had a very similar laugh to the one just now. Fearing the worst, I spun the wheel again for the first skill, though it turned out to be nothing bad. Though it was nothing bad, it was a little pointless as far as I was concerned. On my first skill roll, I had received a Magic Blacksmithing skill.
Its description read, [craft almost anything, near-instantly through the use of magic. The amount of mana put into the craft will directly affect the power of the resulting weapon] could be useful. Since I could use a vast array of weapons already, having a skill that allowed me to make whatever weapon I would need near-instantly was certainly appealing.
On my second roll, I got the skill [basic elemental magic]

going by my limited knowledge of elements, these would be fire, earth, water, and air? Simple, but simple wasn’t a bad thing after all.
Rolling the wheel a final time, I crossed my fingers for a powerful skill. My Anxiety rose as the wheel spun. Was it spinning longer than the last time?
“Ho~? Lucky one aren’t you? Skill fusion is as rare as they come."
Indeed, the last skill the gacha had landed on was skill fusion. Assuming skills were anything like the games I had loved during my highschool years, then the chances were nearly infinite. We’d have to see though.
“Hmm, with that, I think it's time to send you down! Don’t worry, you’ll have a great time… hehehe…”
now hold on, something doesn’t seem quite right with that laugh there. Did she do something to me? “Hold on, why did you jus-”
I was suddenly drowned out by the sound of rushing wind, as the floor seemed to open up before me, sending me tumbling down into the abyss.
“Don’t you worry bout a thing. I’ve made sure that you’ll be a very cute girl, so there should be no problems!”
something inside me snapped in that moment, as I called out back up to that room as I fell, “what do you mean giiiirrrrrrrlllll, ACK”
My back slammed into a cold hard surface, leaving me temporarily winded. For a moment, I simply lay there, staring up at an unfamiliar sky. Did the fall knock something loose in my brain? There's one, two, three… yep, that’s three moons up there. That's not normal.
Feeling slightly uncomfortable, I rolled over, and rose to my feet. The feeling didn’t disappear however, and I groped around behind me for a moment, before grabbing hold of something soft. Suddenly, the words “bladefox” rose to mind.
Pulling whatever it was around and in front of me so I could see it, I yelped as I yanked a little too hard. “Definitely attached. Definitely a tail too.” turning to look at a nearby tree, I acted on nothing more than a whim, and spun, swinging my tail towards the tree.
I wasn’t exactly sure what I had expected from the name “bladefox”, but I don’t think it was that my tail could slice things. I had acted on nothing more than a whim. simple instinct, but as the tree tumbled to the ground, sending up a cloud of dust, It became clear exactly what “bladefox” meant.
As the dust cleared, I finally got a good look at my surroundings. Fallen stone pillars and decrepit stone walls, grown over with vines. Walking over to a nearby puddle, I looked at my reflection.
Pale skin, but not unhealthy looking. Black and white hair, with black on one side and white on the other, framed a pair of deep red eyes that matched the blood-red of Chaos. High cheekbones, and a sharp look in the eyes gave me a mature and serious look.
Not bad honestly. My furry black ears and tail ruined the serious look somewhat. They were a bit too cute to match the overall look. Not really a bad thing, but hey… can’t have everything.
Looking around, I spotted a dusty set of robes lying in the corner. Perhaps they belonged to whoever once inhabited these ruins? Or maybe they were simply placed there by Chaos? Whatever the answer may be, I immediately threw them on.
The robes were long enough to cover my tail, and if I threw up my hood, I could hide my ears as well. I didn’t know what the state of the world regarding beastkin was like, but I felt it best to exercise caution. Chaos had claimed that I was a lost race after all.
Pulling the cloak around me, I took inventory. A cloak, two itemboxes, and a cute furry tail? I could make this work.
Pulling out my Spearmanship starter pack, I popped open the box. For a moment a light shown in my eyes, before quickly fading away.
In place of the box was a simple spear with a wooden handle, and a metal point. Likely iron. Besides that was a whetstone, and small leather-bound booklet.
Opening the booklet, a light once again shown directly in my eyes, after which the booklet was blank. In my system however, a new skill had popped up.
[spearmanship 1] the skill effect was a simple +5 damage when using spear-type weapons. I figured that if I leveled up the skill, the +5 would probably rise.
Strapping the spear to my back with a vine, and placing the whetstone in one of the robes pockets, I gave a momentary glance at the… other starter pack, before deciding not to open it. Striking out in a random direction, I began my first steps in this new world.
