Talasin POV

My body trembled and my teeth gnashed together as foreign powers coursed through my body.

Ahri laid a hand on my shoulder and whispered, “Are you ok?”

Blood dripped out of my nose and ran down my neck and dripped into my hands.

“What’s happening,” Ahri shouted, her voice filled with panic.

“It's resisting my blessing,” said Ramagos. “I've never seen such power before.”

“What can I do?” she asked.

“Place your amulet on his forehead. It still contains power. It might be all that can save him.”

She pulled the chain from around her neck and touched the stone to my forehead and I felt the stone grow warm. Heat spread through my head like a mother’s embrace and I took a deep breath and coughed violently.

A red worm slithered out of my nose and fell into my hands.

I felt like I was about to be sick.

Spikes shot through the worm’s skin in all directions and embedded inside my hand. I tried to shake it off but the worm was stuck. The spikes changed shape and bent around the worm until a cocoon was formed.

“What the hell is going on?” I asked.

The cocoon changed color from red to a pale yellow shell. I touched the shell and it cracked open and a dragonfly with black wings and emerald eyes emerged.

“Catch that,” said Ramogos.

Ahri swatted at it and I feebly attempted to catch it but the damn thing was fast. It buzzed in front of me for a moment and then rose into the air and flew away heading north.

“It carries memories to its Master,” said Ramogos. “How did a mortal come to possess a mindworm?”

I realized that a stone face in the center of the altar was talking.

I sat upright and wiped the blood out of my face.

“Hood the harbinger,” I said. “He embedded that worm into my brain.”

Ahri’s eyes widened and she stared at me. I couldn't tell if she was surprised or terrified by my revelation.

“The last of the elder race,” said Ramagos.

“You mean fairy tales,” said Ahri. “To scare kids into bed at night.”

“Maybe, but the harbingers, if they are real, are said to be immortal.”

“Could they be responsible for kicking Ahri out of her realm?” I asked.

Ramogos’ statues looked at me and said, “The other god's have investigated. There are no signs that her realm was broken into.”

Ahri snorted and said, “Do you think I’d choose to walk around like a human for no reason?”

“We have had our suspicions,” said Ramgos. “First Teon was found dead in his own realm. A week later Ciel the mad goddess just vanishes. Then you Ahri, who never leaves her realm, decides on a whim to venture to the human world to fetch a hero.”

“I had my reasons, the hero can stop the killer.”

“Yes, but since when has the goddess Ahri cared about anyone else but herself.”

“What, I care about stuff?”

“Someone may have planted the idea inside of you,” said Ramogos. “They wanted you to leave your realm unprotected. There are many forces in this world stronger than the gods. We have become- dare I say- more a novelty in this world than a force to be reckoned with. There is something afoot. I have spoken to the other gods and we have agreed not to get involved.”

“What--” I stammered.

“We have agreed not to get involved until we know what's going on,” continued Ramogos.

“This whole trip here and that's it?” I said. “Just good luck you’re on your own, don't die.”

“I'm sorry, young hero.”

“Don't you have a magic sword for us or something?” I asked.

Ramogos’ statue frowned. “You may have this token, may it help you on your journey.”

A ball of mud appeared inside the offering bowl.

“Eat this when you are in desperate need.”

“What does it do?” I asked. “Ramagos?”

“He's gone,” said Ahri. “The candle’s flame has died.”

I picked up the gift and held it out to Ahri.

“Do you want to hold the ball of shit?” I asked.

“No thanks, I think that's the duty of a hero.”

Ahri did not want to stay on Mount Orneth for a moment longer than she had to. We made no fire and took turns keeping watch through the night. I woke up the next morning feeling better than I had in weeks. The first thing I did was check my status.

Life is looking good. I can't wait to get back to Ysolda and show off my new body.

The mindworm was gone and my penis was back in commision. I had plans- so many plans, well mostly just having a lot of sex.

I looked at Ahri, wanting to tell her the good news but she was deeping in thought sitting on a rock sucking on a dried fish with a map spread out in front of her.

How can she eat that shit?

“You’re really making that fish last,” I said.

She looked up from the map with the fish sticking out of her mouth and said, “I like to suck out all the flavor before I put the whole thing in my mouth.”

She’s really giving that fish a happy ending.

“It's the last one. But you can have the rest of it. I've already softened it for you.”

“Sounds tempting.”

She smiled and said, “It's good to see you back on your feet. For a moment there I thought I’d lost you for good.”

“Thanks for saving my life.”

“I kinda owed you one, so I guess we’re even now.”

“What have you got there?” I asked, peering at the map in her hands.

“A map of the southern provinces of Umbra. I'm plotting a route back to Alhaven. I’ve figured out our next move. With my binding cards and your brain you could build a deck that could rival the gods.”

“That's great Ahri, but this was a there and back kinda mission. We’ve done the ‘there’ part.”

“You want to get back to the Mesmers?” she asked.

I nodded.

Ahri folded up the map and then jumped off the rock. She walked up to me and took the fish out of her mouth.

“There's a village an hour's walk from here,” she said. “We can resupply there before getting you back.”

“That's it? I expected you to fight me harder on this.”

“Look Talasin, it's obvious you have no interest in helping me save the world. Why should I keep trying to convince you?”

That's true, I’d rather cut my own dick off than save the world. I was almost killed by a worm. What chance do I have against gods?

All I wanted to do was buy some land, grow some tomatoes, maybe some melons too, pretty much any boob shaped fruit would do and then I’d build a harem and start enjoying the good life.

Isn't the plan to get back to earth?

I didn't know where that thought had come from. My memories of earth were fading so quickly that I was battling to see Earth as home.

Get back to Earth, that's the goal.

The plan was to get answers from Ramogos so Ahri could get her realm back so I could return home.

“What did Ramogos say to you before he healed me? I heard talking but I was still too out of it to understand it all.”

Ahri shifted uncomfortably.

“He said that the god’s suspect, Gavriel the Sword Saint of the god killings.”

“Is he the one responsible for exiling you from your realm?” I asked.

She nodded and said, “Ramogos believes Gavriel is killing us off one at a time, it's just a matter of time before he gets me.” She patted me on the shoulder. “But that's not your problem now is it?”

For the first time since coming to this shit hole world I could finally do whatever I wanted but I wasn't sure I knew what that was anymore.

Return to a world I barely remember or make the most of this new world?

“I can help a little,” I said.

Ahri's eyes lit up.

“Don't get me wrong I'm not killing anyone but if there's a way to get back home then I’ll try.”

“You don't have to fight Gavriel,” Ahri said a bit too quickly. “Just use your Heroic Insight ability to find him and I’ll report his location to the gods and they can deal with him.” She kissed me on the cheek. “Then I can get my realm back and you can go wherever you like.”

“Where is Gavriel?”

She shrugged.

“That's not much of a plan, Ahri.”

“No, it's not. For now just scan every strong person you see. We could also join the mages guild in Alhaven. They have access to information on where to obtain all the rarest spell cards. At least then you would be able to defend yourself while you are here.”

Damn, give this girl the tip and she bites off your balls.

“That's getting a bit ahead of ourselves,” I said. “I’ll scan any strong people but that's as far as I'm willing to go.”
