Chapter 10: Chapter 10. First fight!

It was a strange sensation since gaining strength was normally gradual, something unnoticeable. However, Tatyana could feel that she was now stronger than before. It felt like her muscles were more compact, her bones denser, and her overall senses also increased.

Even though she didn't know much about cultivators, she knew they existed thanks to books in their house and stories she heard from the storytellers on the streets. She had always heard how a cultivator was like a god who could move mountains, part seas, and shatter the sky.

All the stories were so exaggerated that Tatyana thought cultivators were not real, just a story for children.

Moreover, Tatyana had never heard about creating strange pathways inside her own body. Of course, the [Cultivator's anatomy] book spoke about these pathways, but she thought that it was something a cultivator had had since birth. That's why she didn't relate the two, as they were very different right at that moment.

Her current feelings were messy, a mix of excitement and fear. Everyone would fear the unknown, after all. However, the clear increase in strength also filled her with hope for her future, a future that was looking bleak until recently.

After the effects of this breakthrough ended, Tatyana sat there, dazed. The first thing it went through her mind was the security of her family. "With this strength, I may be able to protect Mom and big sister."

Tatyana looked back toward the town direction, but the reason she first left wasn't that she couldn't protect them. What kept her away from them was the feeling of guilt for killing Terrance, the increasing need to take revenge for her biological mother, and the fear of being rejected by them once they knew the truth.

All of this kept the sixteen-year-old Tatyana from making that decision that would have changed her life in a significant way.

After resolving herself one more time, Tatyana stood up and continued walking along the river shore. 'I have to stop thinking about them. I'm sure they will happily go on with their lives after they forget about me.' But the young girl couldn't be more wrong about it, and by the time she meets them again, many things would already be out of her control.

One hour later, Tatyana heard a small branch breaking to her right and turned in that direction.

Then, without giving her time to prepare, a boar rushed toward her! The boar was much bigger than normal, at one and a half meters in height. Its body was filled with compact muscles, and the speed was extremely fast.

Tatyana was scared and jumped to the side with all her strength.

However, she was quite a newbie with her new strength, so she jumped too much, slamming head-first onto a tree at the side. "Ouch!"

A powerful zap of pain assaulted Tatyana as her face slammed onto the tree. Tatyana's eyes became teary because she hit her nose, which triggered her lacrimal gland.

She looked down with her blurry vision and saw blood on her fingers. Tatyana's eyes widened as she became anxious. Then, when she heard something running toward her again, Tatyana hastily turned to look in that direction.

The wild boar wouldn't let her rest and prepare, so it charged toward her again when it regained its stance. This happened while Tatyana was inspecting her hurting nose.

Of course, she saw it approaching quickly and avoided it again. She jumped to the side without trees. But because she was hasty, she tripped and landed on the mud face first.

Tatyana had grown up in a family of doctors, so her combat experience was basically zero. She was about to start training with Terrance after getting her sword, but those events interrupted it.

Even then, Tatyana wouldn't give up easily. She had escaped from her town to live her life, and if something like this stopped her, it would mean that the efforts her parents put into raising her were in vain. 'Come on, Tatyana, stand up!'

Then, Tatyana continued avoiding the wild and relentless boar. One attack after another, she didn't know why this creature was so fixated on her, but she couldn't think about other things other than avoiding the big animal.

Although her situation was not that good, Tatyana was getting calmer each time she managed to avoid the boar. She had even managed to take off her backpack and place it at the side as she dodged, giving her more room to maneuver.

After ten attacks, Tatyana could now dodge without losing balance. Then, as she avoided its charge one more time, she readied her sword, ready to counterattack.

However, it wasn't just Tatyana who was learning. The boar was getting angrier the longer its prey lasted, so it used its whole strength this time. It was at first holding back because beasts like it feared getting too tired and then being preyed on by others, but after seeing the inability of the opponent, it stopped holding back.

Its speed instantly doubled, and it shot toward Tatyana rapidly.

Tatyana was surprised and panicked after the abrupt acceleration and barely dodged it. Well, it would be more precise to say she blocked it, luckily placing her sword between the tusk and her body.

*Bang!*

Tatyana felt her arms hurting as she lost balance and fell to the ground. Because of the rampaging boar, the wet forest floor had become mud, staining Tatyana even more. 'Why did it suddenly become faster!?'

The boar turned very quickly and charged toward Tatyana before she could properly stand up!

She was more prepared this time, and this time, she dodged it by rolling on the floor.

Out of pure instinct, she swung her sword to her side and slashed it toward the wild boar. She was successful!

Still, when the sword and the hide of the boar collided, the blade barely sunk into its body, creating a scratch more than a wound. She could make a cut, but it wasn't deep enough to pose a danger to the beast unless she riddled its whole body with those.

"GRUUH!"

Tatyana almost despaired after her attack barely hurt it. She was getting tired, she was extremely dirty, and sweating a lot.

Her face was already filled with despair, but when she heard it grumble in pain, it revitalized her hope of winning against it. 'I can do it!' Tatyana thought.

"I can do it!" Tatyana said it one more time aloud to motivate herself.

When the boar charged toward her again, Tatyana shouted with more strength, "I CAN DO IT!"

And then she charged toward the wild boar herself.

With a sidestep, she dodged to the right and then slashed and spun to slash its side.

However, the boar also turned as Tatyana dodged!

*BAM!*

"Argh!"

With a head-on collision, Tatyana was sent to the ground by the powerful boar. She rolled and rolled as her stomach felt as if someone had hit it with a hammer.

She hastily stood up and rolled to the side while grunting in pain, avoiding the follow-up attack of the animal.

The pain in her stomach was acute. It felt like her insides were burning. Feeling that amount of pain, Tatyana hoped that there wouldn't be internal bleeding or she would be in trouble.

However, the familiar sound of the boar charging toward herself again filled her ears. She made the split decision to jump forward, even if she wasn't able to turn and look at the boar.

Thanks to that decision, she dodged it with a hairbreadth of distance! But she fell to the ground again. All these falls resulted in bruises and cuts, and Tatyana let out a grunt of pain. "Ugh."

Tatyana looked at the boar with fearful eyes.

If the wild boar struck her one more time, she was sure that she would die. Her strength was already very drained, and getting hit would only consume it faster. 'Why am I so weak? Even after achieving that strange strength boost, I can't beat a wild boar?'

Tatyana didn't know, but that boar wasn't a common wild boar. It was a spiritual beast!

*SLASH!*

The blade sunk into its flesh and made a large gash on the side of the boar! Blood poured in abundance as the creature let out a strong shriek of pain.

Tatyana didn't relax, and while it grumbled furiously, she prepared for the next attack.

Nevertheless, things took a strange turn.

To Tatyana's surprise, the Wild Boar decided to run!

Although the boar was powerful, its charges consumed a lot of energy. After attacking Tatyana for such a long time, it started becoming weary.

Coupled that with that last painful slash, it considered Tatyana dangerous and not worthy of its effort and decided to run.

It wasn't worth it for the wild beast to challenge Tatyana further since it would become exhausted soon after. Even if it won, other predators might appear and attack it. So it instinctively ran away.

Tatyana was surprised, but she didn't follow. If the boar was somewhat weary, Tatyana was utterly tired.

Her legs were shaking, and her arms were almost unable to lift the sword. Her last attack gave her a rush, making her more active, but the moment the wild boar left, her pumping heart calmed down, and the World seemed to crash down on her shoulders.

Her face twisted in pain as her stomach still hurt terribly.

Then, Tatyana decided to take a rest in that place to recover. She sat directly on a tree root at the side and took deep, painful breaths.
