The three wretched demons without legs tried to crawl away, their broken and battered bodies making slow progress. Helios was oblivious to their plight as he simply looked down at the contract in his hands with a thoughtful expression on his face. All of them were a mockery of their former selves but none moreso than the pitiful husk on the floor. The others could at least attempt to save themselves, while it could only quiver quietly in abject misery.
Helios looked up from the contract with a sense of wry amusement as he saw the escaping demons suddenly freeze in place. He had been so focused on reading the contract that he hadn't even noticed them attempting to flee. Shifting his attention to the small Imp in front of him, he saw that Zegg was expectantly waiting for him to finish. Seeing he was done, she puffed up proudly with a beaming grin.
The scene was almost comical, the wounded demons desperately trying to escape and the tiny Imp standing there with a self-satisfied expression on its face.
"Zegg went through a lot of trouble to get this special task for you, Helios! It wasn't easy, let her tell you. She had to trade four regular tasks just to get her hands on it. Zegg really hopes you appreciate all the effort she put in for you. Because these kinds of tasks don't come around often, you know. It's the kind of thing that Summoners brag about to their friends, and wealthy people are all degenerates. Trust me, it's good stuff!" Zegg said, her voice getting louder as gestured with excited hand movements.
“I think I’ll appreciate it more once you tell me how I can obtain the lottery numbers. You said that it’s already happened and the contract confirms that it was years before I died. But what am I supposed to do, ask around until someone tells me the numbers? How would I ever know they aren’t lying?” Helios dryly asked, tightening his grip on a sword as he casually walked over to an escaping demon and plunged the sword into its back.
Helios ignored the demon's shrieks of agony as he used his foot to leverage the blade out of its flesh. The demon's back arched in pain, its muscles straining as it tried to escape the excruciating torture. But Helios paid it no mind, his cold gaze fixed expectantly on the next demon as he approached with deadly intent. The smell of blood and death hung heavy in the air, a gruesome reminder of the brutal scene playing out before him.
“Please, don’t…” the sentence was never finished as another blade entered through the demon’s eye socket to erupt from the back of its skull. With a practised hand, he dispatched the demon with ease, adding to the pile of bodies that lay scattered about.
“Well, about that. Zegg knows of someone who will know. But his dislike for Tuktuk is legendary…” Zegg tentatively replied with a sheepish expression.
"Oh, Tuktuk knows exactly who you're talking about. That miserable old bastard with the ridiculous self-proclaimed title of Cerebrum. Tuktuk can't stand how these Vulgaris deviant losers come up with these fake names for themselves. It's like they're all just trying to compensate for their inability to become Archdemons. He won't lift a finger to help you once he finds out you're Tuktuk’s student, Helios. And believe me, he already knows. Tuktuk’ll give him that much credit," Tuktuk grumbled, glaring over his shoulder at the final demon attempting to crawl away.
“That’s certainly true but if you just apologise for the gift you made him. Zegg is sure he’ll help,” Zegg replied, her hands clasped together with a pleading expression.
"No way! For someone who's supposed to be so smart, he shouldn't have gotten on the bandwagon and picked such a stupid name for himself. It was only fitting that Tuktuk made him an appropriate dunce cap to go with it," Tuktuk said, defensively crossing all three pairs of arms.
"Come on, Tuktuk, if we don't go talk to this Cerebrum guy, who else are we going to ask? It's not like you have suggested any other options," Helios interjected, seeing Tuktuk becoming more and more stubborn. "I know you don't like him, but we need to find out what he knows. Unless you can think of a better option, this is the best one. It’s just an apology, nobody says it needs to be sincere!"
"Cerebrum? More like Cerebrum-less. It's a fake demonic stage that doesn't even exist. His name is Rronth. And don’t get me started on Dimmane, thinking she's a Senex, self-identified body demon? Pah! They're both just Vulgaris who haven't been able to make it to Dominus status yet and let's face it, they probably never will. All these Deviants need to wake up and accept reality for what it is! If they work hard, they’re still able to break through into becoming Archdemons. Making up ridiculous titles amounts to giving up," Tuktuk angrily retorted, spitting onto the floor and continuing to watch the last demon slowly creep away.
"I couldn't help but notice that you seem to have a deep-seated hatred for Vulgaris demons. I'm just curious, what were you before you became an Imp? It's clear you were no ordinary demon or King Beebo would have just executed you without a second thought,” Helios asked.
“Are you going to take care of that nuisance over there, or what? He's really starting to get on Tuktuk’s nerves,” Tuktuk suddenly said, pointing in a direction. The demon in question suddenly froze in its tracks, hesitantly looking over their shoulder. Noticing the irritated Imp and everybody watching them, the demon frantically scrambled away in panic, leaving a trail of red blood from their severed legs as they fled. “That’s right, you better crawl faster if you hope to survive. Stupid fucker. Where were we, what were you saying? Oh, yes. Tuktuk was only one step below the Seven Kings of Sin. His status so lofty, his so-called peers refused to even look in his direction when he strut through the streets of Fastidium. That was until Beebo and her pet grew jealous and tricked Tuktuk.”
